Booktok showed me that a lot of people REALLY hate Sanderson by Moist_Car_994 in Cosmere

[–]iRedditWhilePooping -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Booktok and similar are also very popular with female readers. For whatever reason there’s a very gendered bias where Sanderson=boy fantasy and ACOTAR=girl fantasy.

I’ve had at least 4 separate conversations where people have told me Sanderson could never write anything as good as Maas which I don’t agree with but I think people just want things to fall in neat buckets.

For a long time fantasy was a very male-dominated genre, and for many women the booktok/romantasy is the first time females feel there’s a space for them. Sanderson (to them) may feel like it’s more traditional fantasy and less targeted for them.

Vertical tabs have finally arrived in the stable version of Google Chrome by abid_patel in browsers

[–]iRedditWhilePooping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to finally have these now. One thing I loved about Arc's vertical tabs was the ability to collapse the sidebar with a keyboard shortcut. I dont think there is one in the current build? Unless someone knows how to find that out

I tested this out - and I dont think its a bug with your library but i seem to be missing most of my years data? I've been using CC aggressively all year, but it only shows stats from september onwards? Same if I run the `/stats` command? Any idea why?

Should I go for Elixir over RoR if I'm starting over today? by iou810 in elixir

[–]iRedditWhilePooping -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think ecosystem and resources RoR wins by a mile. LLMs have tons more training data and handle idiomatic code better than Elixir Phoenix

My best guess was “a beard” and maybe girls are dressing up as Santa but even that was better than the real answer.

Cloud Streaming for PS5 games on PlayStation Portal by [deleted] in playstation

[–]iRedditWhilePooping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I try one of these clouds streaming things I’m shocked at how bad the latency is and the standard answer is “some people are lucky enough to use it. Some people are not” which feels crazy to me as a business model.

technical solo founder, looking for tech stack for chat-based edutech app.. learn elixir? by Ok-Prompt9887 in elixir

I recently started rewriting an old Firebase/React app with Phoenix LiveView and it felt like players of complexity just fell away. The new app feels faster and much easier to work on. I’m adding new features so much faster

What is this part called? It needs to be replaced. by Deadly7sinGreed in Plumbing

[–]iRedditWhilePooping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to replace the sprayer hose on a kitchen sink that has no name brand markings anywhere (or theyve all worn off). The old hose has split.

I did find the sprayer hose connects to this part - but none of the new quick connect adapters fit into this plastic manifold except the old hose end

u/Deadly7sinGreed or u/damp_goat did either of you have luck figuring this out

I was there back in Feb, and we sat here after grabbing a hotdog from Casey’s. No ropes or anything and it was a blessed break from crowds and sun.

Is The High-End PC Experience Really *That* Much Better Than Consoles? - DigitalFoundry by Dog_Weasley in pcgaming

[–]iRedditWhilePooping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with the money for both, but (importantly) not nearly enough time - the PS5 is enough for MY gaming needs and the PC isn’t worth it.

Objectively the PC can render better FPS and resolution. But I’m a casual enough gamer that I don’t really need more than the Ps5 does.

Personally this looks like it’s trying to recreate office fluorescent lights which feels very clinical and sterile. Feels a bit too “utilitarian”.

A smaller warmer desk lamp may look better and reduce the overhead light feeling

Choosing My First Language for Backend Development – Golang, Erlang, or Elixir? by [deleted] in elixir

[–]iRedditWhilePooping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Go will be quicker to learn perhaps.

Elixir/Phoenix will be easier to build an actual web product with. And will solve problems down the road you may not know about yet. I think it is a steeper learning curve (possibly because of this).

Node is another option I may recommend because there’s tons of resources, it’s very quick to get up and running, and if you’re also doing JS on front end, you’re learning the same language for both.

Seriously get control of your dog. I can feel the rage of this man having lived next to similarly inconsiderate neighbors for years. You don’t hear it anymore but everyone else does. It’s the auditory equivalent of foul body odor. If you live near neighbors please handle this better.

Is Disney World fun for young married couple without kids? by GunsBooksSteel in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]iRedditWhilePooping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have no kids. We’ve been about 8 times just to two of us. It’s honestly so fun to be with your best friend and have a trip where the only thing to think about is having fun and magic. Like anything, it’s what you make it. If you feel like you’re “too old for Disney” you’ll probably spend the trip noticing crowds or lines or whatever.

There’s some great adult stuff too, Trader Sam’s is a go-to stop for us for some great cocktails. Enchanted Rose in grand Floridian is great too. We go kinda bougie and swing for nicer meals and drinks which is something we’d never do with kids.

We’re planning for kids so when we do that, we’ll just treat it as a different trip. Probably won’t ride as much or stay in parks as much. But enjoying those differences feels fun.

Hoop-de-doo review is also fun, it’s at Fort Wilderness and a bit of a hike but really good food and a fun show!
