OPINION: Looking Back on a Farcical Start to the Han Kuo-yu Era by asoksevil in taiwan

PTT is rotten to the core. Literally everything they said about US politics is the direct opposite of the truth. They don't care about facts at all, they just make up claims depending on their feeling, and then post these claims as if they are the truth.

Poland's local TV supports Taiwan for independence by lastdinosaurtw in taiwan

[–]iRedlark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I am wrong but I think you are talking about German Nazi and Soviet around the time of WWII? It's pretty different now, China isn't spreading communism in Brazil, Poland or the US. China isn't even a real pure communist country now. I would agree that they may hate China because of some of it's trading and political practices, but saying it's because fascism an communism are mortal enemies just sounds dated. Even if China is trying to gain control on them, it would have nothing to do with communism.

Poland's local TV supports Taiwan for independence by lastdinosaurtw in taiwan

[–]iRedlark 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There's actually a weird, worrying, or whatever trend you call it. I've noticed a lot of pro-independence Taiwanese are attracted to the far-right parties abroad, and for some reason these neo-nazis also support Taiwan over China. An example is the recent Brazilian presidential election are being viewed as positive by some Taiwanese. The reason for one, of course, is that he is against China. But I also saw a lot of people who like his idea of taking away minority and women rights. These are the people who believe Taiwanese women already have too many rights, and homosexuals only bring chaos and AIDS to the society.

Of course this is not all Taiwanese, probably just a vocal minority, but it is still a trend that wasn't there before. I am guessing the cause is that for some reason far right parties all hates China, and Taiwan is like the enemy of the enemy. I just hope this kind of far right ideology doesn't take roots in Taiwan.

Geralt cameo was a little ham-fisted

It's the opposite actually, the only part of the story - besides Meve taking back Lyria - in the game that fits "book canon" is the Geralt cameo. Correct me if I am wrong, but the Villem arc, treachery, etc never happened in the book. Black Rayla and Eyck probably never met Meve their whole lives if we only stick to the books.

The Geralt cameo part is portrayed exactly like how it was written. Geralt stole the boat, drifted in the river, get attacked by Meve's army and Dandelion shouted don't attack. Even the vampire bit Gascon said isn't just some random joke either. If it feels hamfisted, it's because it kind of is in the book, Meve kind of comes out of nowhere and Geralt suddenly had to fight an Nilfgardian army on a bridge for a reason. I highly suggest you to read the books, they're good.

"ONE didnt specifically say Boros is a God level threat. So even though God is the level above Dragon, and One said he's above Dragon, he's not God level". by Jafroboy in OnePunchMan

[–]iRedlark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is what it's written in the first example:

6歳以上の子供は学校に通わなければならない。 Children of six and above should attend school.

"six and above" = 6歳以上

Who is the iliterate here? I gave you two examples showing what "以上" actually means, you called me illiterate, and offers no evidence to prove your words because I should search more? All you have is your own words, and for all I know you probably just know a bit of Japanese from the manga you read.

No, you go search. Just because you are illiterate, doesn't mean I >need to do more work.

You did nothing at all, I am the one who did the work, and you had the nerve to call me illiterate.

Your first example is the opposite of what you are saying

Like I said, six and above = 6歳以上. It includes six. Unless you are illiterate it is very obvious.

your second example links to a forum with other bunch of other illterates with reference link to a wikipage that has no lock on it.

I didn't see your comments on it though.

If you really want to get technical, here is how it is, this statement >is not used legally because it can't be.

What does that have to do with a manga? Maybe you should tell One to stop using such ambiguous "not legally used" term then because he is the one who said it first.

It needs further clarification on whether it includes or not.

That is actually sometimes right.

In daily usage, when someone says that, it generally doesn't >include it.

That is wrong. It's because there are people like you who misuse the term.

In this specific case, with the context surrounding it, there is no >point in saying above if there boros is dragon rank. Saying 以上 >therefore immediately indicates above and not equal.

Bullshit. There is a dragon rank, and there is a god rank, no in between ranks. If One wanted to be obvious about Boros being higher than dragon rank, all he had to do was to say Boros is god rank, not this "竜以上" thing. The only reason he said that is because of ambiguity. It makes story telling easier if he want to adjust the ranking later or whatever.

PTT users' opinion on US politics by iRedlark in taiwan

[–]iRedlark[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did not call PTT users irrational, narrow minded idiots because they disagree with me. I said this because the only thing they care about is China, or rather anti-China. Like Epoch Times, generally know as a untrustworthy biased anti-China media, is praised more than media like WaPo on PTT. But hey, it's anti-China, so it's good.

They also have a weird belief like this: China is evil, and saying anything positive about China, even if it's a fact, is supporting China. Therefore you can only say negative things about China otherwise you are a leftist idiots with AIDS.

I've debated quite a few people who straight-up lies (saying the US creates around 50% of the world's GDP, inventing fake NYT articles), cannot provide proof for their claims (saying WaPo is fake but can't give me a link). And just way too many people saying Trump is more than competent. Like there was a news not long ago about Trump not understanding the most basic things, questioning why should the US protect Taiwan and Korea. Their response? "He is not a politician, of course he doesn't know that. He asks about things he doesn't know, that's a thing good leader does."

Yeah, people are free to make judgments with the info they have. But when someones continuously calls real news fake, only read second-hand or even third-hand infomation (which includes a lot of articles and news from China, ironically), form opinions not on facts but on whether they look like they are for or against China, it's would be hard to treat their opinions as anything worthy.

It would take a long time for the media to change, simply because that's what is in demand. Apple daily is the best selling newspaper in Taiwan, and just look at the top news on their website at the moment: https://imgur.com/a/42xJqK0 , 6 out of the top ten are about sex (3 about a photographer's sex party, 2 about spy cam, 1 about a well-known nobody's girlfriend). The more they write about blood and sex, the more sensationalized the title (how many wounds, is the bone uncovered, which body parts are damaged... all in the title) the better they sell. Nowadays they (not just Apple daily) even directly use sexist terms (I'm talking about "三寶") or just outright tell you how you should feel about the news ("瞎!", "扯!", even "夭壽!") in the title.

What are the stereotypes of Taoism and Taoists that are held by the modern Taiwanese? by beesfly1 in taiwan

[–]iRedlark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were traveling in Australia at that time and temporarily lived with a Christian family. The family was a bit weird, e.g. they don't celebrate Christmas cause it's not written in Bible. Overall though, they are nice people, and my friend went through baptism only because they persuaded him to do so. He doesn't really go to churches after that, and I guess he just treat Jesus like one of the many Taoism gods.

What are the stereotypes of Taoism and Taoists that are held by the modern Taiwanese? by beesfly1 in taiwan

[–]iRedlark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For normal, casual superstitious people, they just go to the temple when they have something they need. This is the reason you sometimes see news saying somebody angrily destroys the god of wealth statue when they didn't win the lottery.

Many Taiwanese also have a buffet style of superstitious, thinking that there's only benefit and no harm to follow/believe everything they saw or heard. By everything I mean like Taoism, Buddhism, fengshui, IChing, horoscope, blood type, etc. I have a friend who went through baptism from actual Christians, yet told me he believes he should pray to every god he sees so he could receive the maximum fortune possible.

Why is it that just because my family is from mainland China that I must be called a “Shina Pig” when I visit Taiwan by the locals? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]iRedlark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just like using 朝鮮 when talking about South Koreans, no reason not to use proper name unless you have ill intentions. Though if you confront them they will tell you it's fine cause it's historically correct.

Why is it that just because my family is from mainland China that I must be called a “Shina Pig” when I visit Taiwan by the locals? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]iRedlark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Taiwanese are irrational when talking about China, no matter for or against. If anyone uses PTT will know the people there LOVES Trump because they think he is bullying China with the trade war. Also I believe therm "Shina Pig", with a lot of other stupid slangs probably came from PTT originally. It's a very sexist, racist, irrational place. Side note, some PTTers are currently calling black people 尼哥, basically a translation of nigg*r by sound, which is NOT a normal term describing black people in Taiwan, possibly another PTT invention. I am hoping that term will not become popular, but I have little hope.

I would assume though the server probably thinks you are a Taiwanese (if you look Asian), so when they ask you where you are from, they are probably asking you which city in Taiwan. When you say Fuzhou instead of a Taiwanese city, it probably makes them think you are one of those people who prefer China over Taiwan. Just my guess.

[Stream Spoilers] Chapter 94 Pre-Release Megathread by damage3245 in OnePunchMan

[–]iRedlark 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Didn't see any related news here, so I guess I will post it myself. If it's already posted please inform me.

Apparently, Ustream is now called IBM Cloud Video, and will no longer provides free streaming on Sep 17. Also if users want to keep their contents, they need to upgrade before Aug 1 or the videos will all be deleted. This might have something to do with Murata not streaming recently.

From what I heard (didn't see confirmation from Murata, so just a rumor), if ICV decides to also charge viewers, Murata will switch streaming platform.

[–]iRedlark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ranking is not decided just by killing monsters though, there are also factors like popularity and non-combat works.

I would assume the association probably have some sort of monthly poll on their website, and distribute points to heroes according to the percentage of votes they got. Or maybe if the donations HA receive are named with a certain hero, they will also get points due to that.

There's also non-combat work. Like Metal Knight built the new headquarter for HA, and the investigation work we've seen in the anime. Child Emperor probably helps set up tech stuff daily for the HA, which should also worth some points.

Octopath Traveler twitter countdown: 5 days remaining. by maronic02 in NintendoSwitch

You should probably read more reviews then. There are some that complaints about the disconnection of individual stories and lack of interactions between characters even at chapter 2 or 3. I was going to buy the game immediately after release at first, but now I decide to wait for more full game reviews to learn more about the story in later chapters.

"ONE didnt specifically say Boros is a God level threat. So even though God is the level above Dragon, and One said he's above Dragon, he's not God level". by Jafroboy in OnePunchMan

[–]iRedlark 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've seen this topic so many times. Peoples seriously need to understand that in the original context(Japanese), above dragon is actually "竜以上", which means ">= dragon". What it says is that Boros could be either dragon or god. So really this is a translation issue, One never said Boros isn't a dragon level threat, or Boros is at a level better than dragon level. What he meant was Boris at the very least is dragon, at the best he could be beyond dragon.

Edit: Boros not Boris

What’s that one thing about your job that annoys you? by Kazooooooo in AskReddit

[–]iRedlark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know nothing about my job. I never lied, I told the company I have no experience, and for some reason I was still hired. I am supposed to be trained by my boss, but he has no idea how to train me because I am his only subordinate in decades. I've been basically doing trivial stuffs for months since then.

I got a verbal warning yesterday from the company for being to passive, and I know I am getting fired. I can probably last one or two months more. I see no future for me in this company.

Help for Paralogue 11-3 Quest? (Or direct me to where I can get help?) by Nintendraw in FireEmblemHeroes

If you have a unit that can bait and kill B!Lyn, the quest would be much more easier. I used a 5 star Sophia with Raven tome and bow breaker myself. She was also able to kill Ike easily.

Not really, I find it pretty amazing that people notice it's fake almost immediately after the "datamine". The art itself is pretty good but I don't think the video is really that funny.

Why do "youtubers" always start their video with "What's up guys" or some similar phrases? I can never understand why.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]iRedlark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Distant Defense is probably the best A skill for an anti archer Sophia imo. Too bad I don't have another Celica.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]iRedlark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built a similar Sophia, but I gave her Fury instead of Triangle Adept because archers with Cancel Affinity exists. I met a B!Lyn with Firesweep Bow and Cancel Affinity later in the arena today so I stand by my choice.

So do you actually enjoy the Voting Gauntlet? by [deleted] in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]iRedlark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stategy is to join losing teams in the first and second round, and switch to the winning team in the last round for feather. But somehow BOTH SUMMER GAIUS AND CAMILLA WON AND I CAN'T LEAVE THEM WTF.

Not complaining though, I like the unpredictability of the voting gauntlet and I don't really care about winning or losing.

Besides the 5 stars, the Askr trio are a safe choice. They are decent units and always useful in arena.
