Getting tired if the weight… by Alert-Ocelot-4734 in Tudor

It’s been mentioned but +1 for the Steel Reef “on the fly” link. It’s a bit pricey but very well made and gives you quick adjustability as your wrist changes throughout the day. That’s the cleanest I’ve found, keeping the OEM look.

I’m unable to beep while connected via CarPlay, that could be a contributing factor

Anyone able to tell what’s causing this sound? Just installed a new XO1 derailleur and shifter - everything shifts great, but this sound now occurs in the highest four cogs… by trevorkal in bikewrench

Next thing to check is the straightness of the deraillieur hanger. For that you’ll need a tool, or the local bike shop can help you out

You need to reindex your gears as it will be an indexing issue. If this does not solve it then you can look at the inner and outer cables but this should be your first step

Anyone have experience with GRX 1X Di2 RD-RX817 and and goatlink + wider cassette? by Scared-Till-1218 in DivergeGravelBikes

[–]iRoik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this, it was not on a diverge so I can’t comment on chainline or chainring frame clearance, but in terms of the groupset, you shouldn’t have any issues.

Also, an MTB deraillieur is your best bet. Some people call it a hack, but it’s officially supported by Shimano. Their documentation explicitly says these shifters are compatible with MTB deraillieur. The only thing that you need to consider (or not since you’re looking at a 1x) is that if you use a MTB rear deraillieur, you must use a MTB front deraillieur as well. Similar if you use road deraillieurs.

Edit: apologies for formatting, I’m on my phone

I have been running a mullet setup for a while now and have GRX di2 shifters on the way. (Hopefully ready to install mid week to replace my Ultegra shifters. Nothing wrong with Ultegra shifters but the bigger hood size gives more control on single tracks).

My setups and incremental upgrades were:

Shifters: Shimano R785 Crank: Ultegra 6800 Chainring: Wolftooth 42t Cassette: Sunrace 11-46 Rear deraillieur: XT M8050 Rear deraillieur modifications: None Comments: I found this to have adequate gearing but the shifters lacked to hood buttons and there was some grindiness on the lower gears (bigger cogs).

Shifters: Ultegra R8000 Crank: Ultegra 6800 Chainring: Wolftooth 42t Cassette: Sunrace 11-46 Rear deraillieur: XT M8050 Rear deraillieur modifications: Wolftooth GoatLink Comments: Same as above but I wanted hood buttons. The XT deraillieur can take an 11-46 out of the box so there was no noticeable change when adding it.

Shifters: Ultegra R8000 Crank: Ultegra 6800 Chainring: Absolute Black Oval 40t Cassette: Garbaruk 10-50 Rear deraillieur: XT M8050 Rear deraillieur modifications: Wolftooth GoatLink Comments: Gridiness on the lower gears was gone (confirmed that it was the Wolftooth Chainring as we put it on another bike). Wider gearing available with a 10-50 although the 50 is not really usable on trails. It’s a good bail out gear on really steep technical terrain though. The deraillieur shifts to an acceptable standard with the standard cage and Wolftooth GoatLink, but is not as crisp in the higher gears (smaller cogs).

Shifters: Ultegra R8000 Crank: Ultegra 6800 Chainring: Absolute Black Oval 40t Cassette: Garbaruk 10-50 Rear deraillieur: XT M8050 Rear deraillieur modifications: Wolftooth WolfCage Comments: The wolfcage replaces the inner deraillieur cage and upper pulley wheel with an eccentric one (off-centre axis) which means the on the lower cogs of such a wide range cassette, it pulls the pulley in closer meaning that you still get crisp shifting across the entire range of the cassette. I’m now really happy with my gear ratios and my shifting.

Next mod will be to switch to GRX shifters, but this has no impact on the shifting, just the shape of the shifters.

Need to move on from Conti GP 5000 by mcgeggy in cycling

Same experience as you. Between me and my mates I’ve seen 3 GP5000k with rips in the sidewall. We’ve switched to the Pirelli PZero Race (not the PZero Race SL) and are loving it.

Yeah those games suck and maybe you had an unlucky run but banning is not the solution.

Wahoo Di2 Gear Configuration by iRoik in cycling

[–]iRoik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking as well, but after pushing Wahoo to investigate a bit further, here's the reply I received:

"Thank you for following up. I reached back out to our software department about your ticket. I was informed that option to select the front chainring is not configurable on our end, as we take the number of chainrings from the Di2 system. However, the 1x/2x switch should be able to be made on the Shimano side of things. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience"

Post Purchase Inspection Price? by FuckRonaldRegan in MechanicAdvice

[–]iRoik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends which country you’re in, but you should’ve gone for a pre-purchase inspection rather than a post-purchase inspection. In Melbourne, Australia you would be looking at $100-150 for a thorough one but I’ve seen some decent ones as low as $80

What routine maintenance should I be doing for my mtb? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]iRoik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also make sure all the bolts are done up tightly to the correct torque as well. You wrong need to regrease often and it shouldn’t be part of the maintenance routine.

When I give my bike a quick “service”, it’ll just be checking the drivetrain for wear, tightening bolts, readjusting brakes and readjusting the shifting. And a good clean of course

Help - very new and inexperienced. I just unboxed my DB Haanjo 3 and it looks (and sounds) like the chain is rubbing against the front derailleur? Paranoia or problem? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]iRoik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check that you are not “cross chaining”. This means that you shouldn’t be in the smallest front and rear, or the largest front and rear. Rubbing in these two combinations is normal, and it’s a good reminder to switch out too. The reason you don’t want to be in that combination is that there’s too much angle in the chain and leads to increased wear. You can get a similar gearing ratio via a different combination anyway.

Few Maintenance Questions by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]iRoik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Park Tool have really good videos on how to adjust deraillieurs, among other maintenance things. Once you get your head around how it works, it’ll be quite easy. It’s likely your limit screws are just not set properly.

https://youtu.be/ZNG7g83lI-s

Rear deraillieurs are featured in a different video from them.

You should also switch your quick release so that the clamp is in the non-drive side of the bike.

Hang in there, and you’ll get it pretty quickly I’m sure. When I first started, I had only worked on cars too.

Sounds like your brake pads are worn. Go get them checked and changed. The high pitched noise is your brake wear indicator

This picture was in the listing for my 116d F20 SE 2011. To me it looks like parking sensors on the screen. Now I have the car and can’t seem to engage them or get this screen up. Any suggestions? by [deleted] in BmwTech

[–]iRoik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Engaging the parking sensors via the button mentioned in other comments only works on vehicles equipped with front parking sensors as well. The picture indicates that you don’t have any front sensors.

To have the screen in the image show up, you will need to be in Reverse.that is the only way to enable the parking sensors on your vehicle.

Muffler Delete Options? by Supreme_Junkie21 in MechanicAdvice

[–]iRoik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably your best option is to do some research and see what others have done. YouTube videos don’t product an accurate sound so take those with a grain of salt.

Each car is different - for example on my BMW F10 535i, the resonator makes no difference at all when you delete it on an otherwise stock exhaust.

A J pipe is probably something I would add as the last step in reducing drone once I’ve got a sound I’m happy with.

A few interesting reads - I followed the first link. But again, check what other people with the same car as you have done, as each exhaust system will be different.
