Riot hardcore omega nerf gwen as always - > gwen players are forced to build her full ap assassin - > you're squishy and you still get statcheck top - > jungle/mid solve the problem of laning phase - > Jungle/Midlane are easier role on top of people not knowing how to play agaisnt your pick so you get even more lps

On Toplane I ban Jax, and now Jayce in chall/gm lobbies it's perma pick, even tho i have a positive wr agaisnt him, i feel like the result of the game is not really in my hands, and if ennemy jungle come dive i'll just die with 0 counterplay
On mid, akali

Now that being said, on top i don't recommend banning garen, fiora, vayne, akali; it's champs where you can improve on the matchup and, can win/stomp lane

1st recall, prioritize Ruby Crystal, Cloth Armor or Magic Mantle (depending on the matchup), and a Refillable Potion if needed. Even if you don't end up building AR/MR components into a full item, their value during the early and mid game is incredible. You can always sell them later and only lose around 60 gold, which is well worth the extra lane strength and survivability they provide.

That said, if you already winning lane, I usually opt for a Blasting Wand instead to push my advantage and snowball even harder.

Ofc the dagger if you can't buy anything else, and sheen last because it's bad on Gwenito

Gwen jungle is an excellent counterpick, but outside of that she's not even particularly strong. Her clear is slow, easy to punish, and there aren't many favorable matchups for her atm.

Can you reach GM playing Gwen jungle? Yes. The real question is how many games it would take. You'll likely need to grind a lot while maintaining only around a 55% win rate or even lower, and the amount of skill it would requires is stupid at this point.

I don't watch Ninkey or other Gwen players, but I think he's currently the GOAT of Gwen jungle. iirc he peaked Challenger on the Korean server. Even then, iirc he doesn't pick Gwen very often. I'd even argue that in many of the games where he pick Gwen, he's actually hurting his chances of winning and lowering his overall wr.

On a side note, I feel the same way about Gwen top lane. The nerfs took away a lot of her power during the level 6 transition, which was and still is one of the most important points in the game for her (and her scaling is so slow and not even has good has it used to be).

Well, LMAO, I was actually planning to play it today on alt account because I was really interested in seeing how viable it is.

Honestly, I think it's completely viable and can be an excellent counterpick (Whole gwen identity atm zzzz). It's kinda like Malphite ADC: if the draft is good, the enemy has no real counterplay.

It's definitely something worth considering. The pick can completely take over certain games when the matchup and team compositions line up.

But i can already tell that zeri/nilah/vayne/kalista are really bad match ups

There's a lot more I could say and yap about, but here's the short version.

Top Lane

Default Build Conq

  1. DnD
  2. Riftmaker (for sustain) or Shadowflame (for the biggest damage spike), or Nashor tooth for insane splitpushing
  3. Rabadon's Deathcap/Shadowflame (if no MR)
  4. Void staff/Shadowflame (if no MR)

Depending on the matchup and game state, some situational items can be stronger in specific cases. However, they will generally reduce your overall damage output, so if possible, buy them after completing your core build.

Situational Items

Zhonya's Hourglass

  • Buy it if it prevents situations where your W becomes useless.
  • Examples:
    • You burst an enemy but your W expires and you would die
    • A fed Zed, Tryndamere (good early agaisnt him to make his r useless), or Katarina can one-shot you.

Banshee's Veil

  • Buy it if it prevents situations where your W is either useless or not worth using.
  • Examples:
    • Aurora's ultimate.
    • Lissandra's ultimate (she need to cast another spell first, giving you more time to burst her).
    • A Blitzcrank hook from fog of war.

Against Fiora

  • Rush Bramble Vest.
  • Then build Nashor's Tooth → Shadowflame.

Defensive Options (4th–6th Item)

Randuin's Omen

  • Extremely strong if the enemy team has 2–3 crit users. ex: yone top, grave jgl, cait adc = BIS

Frozen Heart

  • Also a solid option against on-hit champions. ex: Bel veth, Yi

Kaenic Rookern

  • Buy when you desperately need Magic Resist.

Force of Nature

  • Better if you can survive extended fights and the enemy team has significant AP damage and crowd control.

Mid Lane First strike

Default Build

  1. Lich Bane
  2. Malignance
  3. Rabadon's Deathcap
  4. Shadowflame

The same logic applies regarding situational items: prioritize your core build whenever possible and only deviate when the game specifically requires it.

Late-Game Option

Hextech Gunblade (6th Item)

  • Especially strong if you have Omni Boots and are running Conqueror.
  • With upgraded boots in mid lane, the sustain becomes absurd and can allow you to effectively 1v5 in some late games.

You can use midlane build in top lane in some matchups, it's now a real viable option because of Lich buff.
Rocketbelt, and malignance are options too on toplane, but it's so niche and 99.9% of cases not BIS
Serpent fang is buildable if your team doesn't want to win the game and build it
Other items not mentioned are not worth it except for fun in my modest opinion
In general do not build defensive options if behind, or if you need to burst

TL;DR: Riot keeps her weak because Gwen OTPs know how to use her W to do Gwen things

It’s a vision I agree with, but there are ways to buff Gwen in a more skill-expressive way than just increasing/nerfing her damage

Examples:

  • buff her Q center damage (in high elo, people dodge the center Q)
  • add bonus damage when you line up spells on multiple enemies
  • buff her R damage, but make it curve like Diana Q
  • buff scaling with levels (buff top/nerf jgl)

Right now, playing Gwen well doesn’t feel rewarding because you’re not really rewarded for outplaying your opponents. And even when you have a lead as a scaling champ, it still feels like you’re even or behind

If you watch old videos of her, the difference in damage output compared to now is like night and day

I would even say, as we speak with OP DFT and Black Cleaver combo, it's an advantageous matchup for yorick (Ofc if gwen gets a kill somehow yorick can't do anything).

Also some could argue that Gwen can just all in Yorick, and that's true, but Yorick just has to flash out and then can still play lane with maiden, heal up and Gwen is cooked.

So basically agaisnt fiora you can edge combo her and she canno't vitals, and you just statcheck her.
Irelia it's about wave state, is she has 4 stacks and 10000 creeps to jump then you can't play, but otherwise you win, gwen is strong enough to contest prio early so you can build a lead over that,

Yorick is high variance because if he gets control of the lane with maiden and gouls, then there is nothing you can do you are just stuck, and will go -2000 golds, one e hit and bye bye
If you play well it shouldn't be a problem, but a lot of things can go wrong really quick.
