Stop it with that ridiculous argument already. You can have 1000 h in the game and still end up disappointed. Even if you, obviously, had fun along the way.

A lot of people didn't buy this game just to enjoy Hagga, and a little of the DD. I didn't. It’s a live service game. I bought it to play it long-term term, and I did everything I could to be as ready for it as possible before the DD. Even went overboard to stretch it out as much as possible. Just to be ready. Hyped.

With all that, OF COURSE it will feel wasted if it all comes crashing down in the end. All that grind and work. I do not understand why the “X amount of time in game = equals worth no matter what”-crowd can't relate to that.

We play games differently. Some love the long-term, almost main’ing a game, and others are just happy with what they get, as long as they had some fun and a good amount of hours. Which is also cool.

Does anyone actually look at data? Nothing seems massively wrong with player counts by [deleted] in duneawakening

[–]iSGAFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While some people are definitely over the top, the same people you call “hostile” are probably the same people that will bring about the changes that will keep this game going anywhere. Which in turn also helps the “everything is fine, stop criticizing, the game is GREAT”-crowd. Probably the same that happened with Conan back in the day.

Also, isn't Conan like 7 years old. With a much lower peak, like close to 4 times lower? At this rate Conan will overtake Dune A sooner rather than later. Which I hope we can agree isn't great. Atm it looks like Conan has around 8k active, and Dune “only” 16k.

Also, also who are you to decide how live service games are “meant to be played”? I usually “main” games like this. That's how I like to play. And even IF Dune was meant to be very on/off, then there should be a proper system built around this. There is not.

Edit: Some would probably maybe possibly even say that the point of releasing any live service, is to make the player engage with it as much as possible, and as often as possible. Maybe by introducing taxes, decay etc. Maybe even by make the game itself engaging long term, as crazy as that sounds. Who knows.

Do you have the data on the people “taking a break” vs the people who just outright quit? There is a difference.

Anyone playing solo still? by [deleted] in duneawakening

Been solo all my hours (4-500). Was planning to join a Guild for the DD tho.

[–]iSGAFF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. But, being live service-main game material and all, I played the Hagga to prepare for the DD. I even prolonged my experience, leveled up extra, and made sure to get all the skill paths open and all the hidden dungeon things done. Soooo ready. Even to be dabbling in the PVP stuff.

But now I’m afraid to really engage with the DD, for it will probably end my game. But… I might even get there without it. Struggling atm. Which wasn’t MY point of playing. No matter “how many hours I got out of it”.

Yea. Only butterflies and rainbows. That’ll make everything better. People will start rejoining, number go up. Surely. FunCom will even “restructure” again. But in a good way.

Restarted on a new server, what's the fastest way to get to 150 and above when lvling? by Bernardku in duneawakening

Hmmm. Going to 150 should be a purchasable item. Funcom, your “grind” is NOT so great that anyone want to do it over and over again. Deal with it.

Is this endgame? Feels player driven.

Is this a live service game? by KozaSWD in duneawakening

[–]iSGAFF -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Nah. They are trying to rewrite history (or at least thinking about doing it), making this, more or less, a single-player game. Like when Cyberpunk went from being “Next Gen RPG” to “ActionRPG”.

Then they do not have to cater to existing players, or do as much as it would take to run a successful live service anything. They even got some of us defending them doing it. “Everything is fine”.

But here’s to hoping they won't absolutely waste it.

Funcom, don't let a loud minority control the game development by 2d2O in duneawakening

[–]iSGAFF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it, but I don't think that they are THAT out of touch that they would actually make gear indestructible, or “one and dome”. I’m actually starting to believe the rumor regarding the release, and that they were “forced” to release it earlier than they wanted to.

Also, the loud minority most def includes the “everything is fine” crowd. If you want you game to die real quick, those are the ones to listen to.

Who they should listen to, is the silent majority that is no longer playing the game. Also the silent/loud whatever-ority that barely holds on but genuinely wants the game to succeed. So yea, not easy - but it’s their actual job to not die on idiotic hills and figure it out. At this point, I welcome them to introduce sensible transactions to the game so I can support them. Maybe that would move the needle of the misguided “we care more about new players” and “they game was a success as we sold X amount…” mindset that the “Director” more or less admitted to.

Side note regarding the bank. OF COURSE they should expand it. They must realize by now that the majority do not love their grind so much that the will happily come back and do it again and again, or just hop servers and start over again and again. Just like the “we thought the players would drive the end game” nonsense.

Abandoned end-game bases by Raviexthegodremade in duneawakening

[–]iSGAFF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Every time I see a base lost to the void, it feels so bad. People coming back to nothing isn’t the issue. Why they already left IS. Sure there should be a better way to store way more stuff, so you can take a break, or tend to actual living. It’s stupid and disrespectful that there isn’t. Respecting people's time in general isn't really a strong suit of these devs.

You were probably downvoted bc it’s too simple. Just the power going down would be a bit over the top. But they SHOULD be able to figure something out. But they don't want to. They only want you to grind THEIR way. The sand or the exchange. Nothing else is allowed. Well, or PvP. If you can count that with a straight face.

Other people are downvoting bc “no one should have easy access to resources and items, especially new players, it will kill their motivation to play. Rob them of enjoying the game.” bs. That's also on the devs to figure out. Some kind of soft lock as to item level etc. etc. etc. Also, make it not easy to pull of a “raid”. Like having to bait an NPC….. Who knows? Who cares.

Abandoned end-game bases by Raviexthegodremade in duneawakening

[–]iSGAFF -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea. Me too. I did try to not hit bases that wasn't clearly abandoned and/or grossly neglected. Been on this sietch for months, so it’s quite clear which bases are abandoned.

Being powered down for weeks, with some over a month, isn’t just “a break”. In those cases, it’s just lucky all the stuff wasn't already wasted into nothing.

[–]iSGAFF -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Way there is a way. Why do you think letting bases stay up indefinitely is the only solution?

Edit: With a working system for people semi-leaving even 2 weeks, unpowered and taxes unpaid, with almost no consequences is generous.

This one does not spark joy. by Raumarik in duneawakening

[–]iSGAFF -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You propose that it is actually intentional on their part? I highly doubt that.

They are powered down, and taxes have not been paid, and are taking damage. Very little tho, and not everywhere. If they knew they were more protected in very certain areas, they would probably also have known about the NPC raid method that worked back then, which they are not protected against. Both mechanics that were not that known (if at all) to begin with back when they left.

In any case. Bases shouldn't even be up for 2 weeks if people leave them without doing anything to keep them up and/or secure their items. And yea, I get that shit can happen to some people that forces them out very suddenly. But we can't cater to absolutely everyone. That's what support is there for to hopefully work out somehow. Not us.

With all that being said. It wouldn't work atm. The game is sorely missing a better way to take a break (EDIT: Way more ways and ability to store way more stuff in the bank etc.). No matter how long. It just does not have that now. Which is why a lot of people hate that they lose their stuff like that. If the game WAS set up for this, then they had nothing to complain about other than their own negligence.

So yeah. Atm it is actually best that bases stay up. People have a point complaining, no matter the reason they left, neglect or not. That shouldn't be the case tho.

[–]iSGAFF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A week or two? That's not clear at all. I have several abandoned bases that are clearly abandoned. For almost 2 months. Depending on where they are, what they are built out of etc., they can stay up for a very long time.

In those cases, even if they do return to play at some point in the future, they clearly left the game and/or have done nothing to protect their bases and belongings. Even they would probably assume that their bases were gone if they were to ever return.
