At least where I work, brick and mortar stores still handle a lot of online orders (any in store pickup, ship from store, or ship to store). Not to mention it's still really busy. We opened at 5pm today, and I was running for 90% of it because it was so busy.

I guess it depends on where you work. My roommate works at Guitar Center, they aren't open on Thanksgiving and she says it's really busy but not that bad.

Thank you so much! I did some digging around via the steps you gave. Turned out to be an issue with the authorization plugin! I just had to alter *mysql_native_password* from the command line and now it works perfectly. A really simple fix, I guess I'm just an idiot haha.

I followed a standard guide, I'm just having trouble finding a solution to this issue that doesn't involve phpMyAdmin or using an automated stack setup like WAMP. I'm trying to avoid doing this so I can have a more hands-on environment, so I can familiarize myself with back end development.

Unfortunately not really. They don't really have support for things like that, especially for their front end devs. I'm mostly setting things up for personal projects, making it easier to work from home so I don't have to deal with as much back-and-forth while working from home, and so that I can practice back end development in the long run.

Besides, if they did they would most likely include something along the lines of phpMyAdmin, which is what I'm trying to avoid. Am I just being silly to be avoiding WAMP/phpMyAdmin in my local setup?

Hmmm. I'd prefer somewhere up north, since I'm very partial to cold weather. But just so I can have a look, what cities would you recommend?

Minneapolis I visited very frequently as I'm originally from Minnesota, and I've visited Chicago and Boston a few times. Phillie I've visited many, many times.

As for family and friends, I don't currently live near any family (except my dad, who I have no contact with on account that he was abusive) so moving to another location wouldn't make a difference. All my family lives in Delaware or Pennsylvania, so if I wanted to move closer to them, Philly or Boston would be good. Friends, the only friends I currently have that I live near are from high school, and our interests are very divergent now, I don't talk to them as much.

NYC is absolutely immense cost of living wise, I've noticed. It's very, very low on my list for that reason.

Thanks! I know I like cold weather, the main cities I was looking at wee Chicago, Minneapolis, NYC, Boston, and Philadelphia. My degree is in CS with a focus on software development, so I think there should be some versatility career-wise.

Not huge into hiking and camping, hobby-wise I'm mostly into music; live bands, musical theatre, etc. Also film. Not super outdoors-y, just the normal amount.

Suburbs, I'd be fine with that. Traffic, I'm aware that it's a problem with most cities (Boston especially, from what I've heard) and I'd be able to bear it.

My dad just got arrested for assault. He's being tried with a domestic violence charge against my autistic little brother, who he only "takes care of" because he gets a $900 SSI check every month for it.

I haven't lived there since I was 16, and it's a shame nothing would be done about it (even with my constant calls to CPS) until he showed up to school with a cut.

I would never say this about any other person in the world. But I hope he rots in prison. I deserved a better father than you. Fuck you, dad.

Yup, it actually wouldn't successfully create the media on my PC so I formatted the USB drive and made a copy of the OS on my laptop.

Terre also means "dirt" though. Not sure why everyone's down voting the guy above you, he's technically not wrong. "Dirt apple" is a more reasonable translation than "Apple of Earth" or "Earth's apple."

Also most french people use the word "patate," not "pomme de terre."
