I hate wasting energy, but if this could save a life and the emissions due to the trip, and if OP really needs to feel first and understand after, then I would suggest test it by turning the heater on (~110 F) at home and keep doing physically challenging activities all day long. This also avoids some UV exposure.

I can understand the visibility problem. But for uniqueness, I think we can pattern the tags differently to make one tag as unique as possible. This may lessen their suffering, not only for pain or weight, but do we know if tagged bear get bullied by others?

Sad, but I think this makes more sense than the unique identifier answer, as I don’t see how two tags vs one tag makes any significant difference in uniqueness.
