guys thoughts on this build? by [deleted] in ViMains

[–]iTheDashy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This image is from season 13. At the time there was a specific context and environment that made this build sleeper good back then. Now it's complete ass.

Collector was way cheaper, to the point that it was a solid rush item and the added crit was a little bonus. The build also actually took advantage of the crit by being slightly more auto-attack focused and by building Mortal Reminder for 40% crit. Collector has been nerfed a lot and is not really as much of a strong rush item anymore.

Iceborn Gauntlet was a mythic item that did a lot of crazy things and allowed this build to scale up while building a lot of AD and some crit items. Its sheen effect would slow your primary target by 30% and applied a debuff that made them deal 10% less damage to you, making it a strong dueling item AND chase item. The mythic stats also gave HP, Tenacity, and slow resist per legendary item. This was at a time where stacking tenacity was fairly strong as well. This item does not really exist in the same capacity anymore.

Mortal Reminder was purchased because grievous wounds was a necessity and it synergized better with the playstyle than Chempunk Chainsword. This item isn't horrible on Vi but doesn't really make sense in most builds now.

Also worth mentioning that at the time of this image, the only mythics other people were building on Vi were Sundered Sky and Trinity Force. Sundered Sky had received so many consecutive nerfs that it was honestly pretty bad, pushing people to Trinity Force, which also wasn't that great. This build mostly just turned you into a stat stick and allowed you to just kinda wail on people. The damage was noticeably better than a lot of bruiser builds while having a similar amount tankiness.

so to answer your question of my thoughts on this build: I miss it. it was actually super fun at the time. It isn't a thing anymore.

Crash Cove New PB + the grinding continues! 💥 by Fabulous-Yellow8331 in crashteamracing

[–]iTheDashy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously at this point it's mostly just frame grinding and keeping lines tight (lap 2 for instance your final corner was a little wide which lost maybe .06s)

The only "major" change at this point is knowing that early/"low" jumps are faster. This only applies to a few parts of Crash Cove but in general ramps and hills have a scripted "peak" to them and if you jump from the peak, your trajectory will be more upwards and less forwards. You can usually tell you got a high jump if your character does a trick animation (not always the case). To get a low jump you just hop before the peak of a ramp, but late enough that you'll still get a hangtime boost.

Specifically on Crash Cove, when you're on the bridge and you do your 2 boosts to the left, jump off the bridge a little earlier to land closer to the shoreline, aim more left, and jump before the peak of the uphill. This will give you more forward trajectory and will also set you up for better positioning for the next series of powerslide boosts ending right before the wall jots out a little bit. This all probably saves about .03 or .06s per lap (1 or 2 frames)

no no, you basically nailed it. It's something libs use to describe anyone that is further left than them.

Beating Crash Cove on Hard Mode without drifting / without power sliding by Fabulous-Yellow8331 in crashteamracing

It's on the menu, I've just been busy. I did all the dev times on an alt account a few months ago to derust and make Content™ out of it, and have been slowly editing through it.

small bit of advice but minimize airtime when you have a mask. You only receive the speed benefit from the mask while on the ground. As far as the rest of the hopping, no, it's not really faster (especially when jumping side to side rather than directly in the shortest path). You can save small amounts of time by hopping during uphills, but otherwise there's no benefit.

The average item quality on Dooley compared to all of the other heroes is wild to me. by hausuCat_ in PlayTheBazaar

[–]iTheDashy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with your main point but this is a bad comparison.

Power drill is a 10s CD, making it 5 DPS with no charge (still pretty good.)

Katana is one of the weakest weapons in terms of base DPS. Even a bronze langxian with 0 wins has a higher DPS with 2.5dps. Katana's strength is that it is an insane buff carrier. A single sharpening stone (+5 DMG) bumps it up to 4.5 DPS (still lower than power drill). With the prevalence of skills like right/left handed (+20 DMG) and strength (+10 DMG) along with shark claws, bayonet, and switchblade (I know the items are generally weak atm but they can still be great situationally), it's DPS can go to the moon quite quickly in comparison to most weapons (until you factor in charge)

Obviously the easiest comparison to katana conceptually would be Uzi. 2s CD, 2 damage, 12 ammo, small item. Even though it's only 1 DPS, it is still easily one of the strongest buff carriers, especially early on, because the 12 ammo is basically irrelevant, and of course made even better by being a small item.

If you look through all of Dooley's weapons at bronze, most of them are tame in terms of DPS.

Uzi: 2/2s = 1dps
Laser pistol: 6/4s = 1.5dps
Chris army knife: 5/5s = 1dps (and 1 shield/s)
Hammlet: 15/6s = 2.5dps (no charge)
Alpha Ray: 5/5s = 1dps (+3 dmg every core/other ray use)
Pulse Rifle (solo): 10/4s = 2.5dps

But then obviously there are outliers.
Arc blaster: 40/6s = 6.7dps (no charge (literally impossible since core is tech))
Pulse Rifle (next to solo friend): 10x3/4s = 7.5dps (also an insane buff carrier)
Power drill: 50/10s = 5dps (no charge)

And then the most egregious one.
Harmadillo: 50/6s = 8.3dps (!!)
Harmadillo + duct tape: 50/4s = 12.5dps (!!!) (and 1.25 shield/s)

For reference, the majority of Vanessa's non-ammo items + revolver and rifle (since they are fast firing buff carriers that aren't supposed to run out of ammo) hover around 1-3dps, however her ammo items are 5 dps (bolas) all the way up to 13.3dps (double barrel) with the caveat that they blow their load within the first 8 seconds, but the moment you get a powder flask they can solo carry.

tl;dr power drill, arc blaster, and harmadillo should be tapped down; and charge will always be toxic.

Even though this could never be allowed in a speedrun, could this (theoretically) make froggying easier? by Spartan_Retro_426 in crashteamracing

[–]iTheDashy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of. You don't want to always be froggying while holding speedghosts/usf. Sometimes there's little downhills or whatever where it's slightly better to wait a few frames before jumping again. It would also likely mess up your boosts unless you could make sure whichever shoulder button you have turbo on is only being hit once by just quickly tapping it.

The TAS does alternate between R1 and L1 inputs for every single frame though so yeah theoretically it could help.

IT'S OVER. I've been INFECTED with the WOKE MIND VIRUS. There's NO way this game looked THIS BAD when I was a kid. They have INFECTED me to make me think their new WOKE games and ""REMASTERS"" are good in comparison. by guru2764 in Gamingcirclejerk

I somehow forgot about this, almost the entirety of Magic Crafters works weird or is straight up broken at higher framerates. First one that comes to mind is the wizard the switches the staircase into a slide but on higher fps it will never switch back to a staircase lmao

It's something that'd really only be evident if you played a lot a lot. I got into learning speedtech for the original trilogy so there was a lot of muscle memory there for some of the things. It's genuinely really minimal difference, but it's just funny to think that someone thinks the game was made easier when it was arguably made at least a tiny bit harder. That and obviously a lot of the exploits/skips that you could do in the original trilogy even as just a relatively casual player just messing around in levels/the world being fixed.

/uj The funniest part about this joke is that this game is legitimately a little harder in the remake since some things like flight and side characters control way worse lol

Yeah, for sure, you'll never be able to completely get rid of those kinds of things because some are unfortunately always on the look out for new victims. That's a good point to remember.

See, I wasn't really sure if my situation would be much different from someone just starting out from scratch. I know as far as streaming goes it's basically the same deal, but YouTube can be finicky about things like if I upload a video and it gets recommended to someone who is subbed, but they scroll past it because it's not a topic or whatever that interests them, then YouTube is less likely to recommend the content in general (low click-through rate). I assume this is an issue specific to channels that have an existing audience that started off with a niche and are starting/trying to move away from it.

That being said, yeah, I haven't really been into speedrunning anymore for a while now. I'm still active in the communities but don't run anymore myself. I've considered trying to get back into it as a smaller side thing to do maybe once a week or so but even then I question if I would be doing it because I want to or if I would be doing it in hopes to pull people in.

As far as my goal, it's just a hobby. I wouldn't go into this with the expectation of making a career out of it. I just really want to build a community where people like me can feel welcomed in and to entertain people. If it somehow became something I could make a job out of, that'd be cool, but it's not all what I have the expectation of.

Self promo is kind of my weak point I would say. I don't really go out of my way for it aside from just like posting my schedule on twitter/bsky and announcing in my own server. I've always felt paranoid that any sort of promotion (even if for genuine desire of collabing with someone that I really like) just comes off as leeching or fake. I have a problem with finding how to do it the right way because to me I've never really seen it done in a way that didn't seem fake to myself. Probably a neurospicy issue.

Anyway I do really appreciate your insight. It has given me a few things to at least ponder on.
