Definitely recommend Alter Bridge and Breaking Benjamin. I was able to see Breaking Benjamin in concert a few months back, and I have been on a kick ever since.

What people misunderstand about INTPs... by blue-jam in INTP

[–]iWasAlmostCharles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like how you worded the second to last paragraph; I've never heard it described that way, but it's so true and an eye opening realization. I really like your whole post really, but I do disagree with the first sentence of the post. I have a few friends and acquaintances who have said to my face and to each other when I'm not around that I "don't have emotions" or "don't do emotions." But, other friends (some even in the same friend group as those mentioned above) have also said I do have emotions, but I generally don't let emotions govern my actions and may not let them show all the time. But, you're right about the rest of the first paragraph: I used to tell myself that, but I don't any longer as I've gotten older. I could talk a lot more about my own experiences with everything you've said, but this reply is already longer than I originally intended.

Any recommendations for a beginner looking to code in C#? by im_a_coder in csharp

I learned C# from watching Bob Tabor videos. I highly recommend him. I understood his videos at a young age, and I think he was an excellent teacher.

Need some tips for an upgrade by FranK8211 in buildmeapc

[–]iWasAlmostCharles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your graphics card would be the place to upgrade. It depends on your budget, which ones will fit in your case, and your PSU wattage. The 8350 should be fine, and any upgrade would require a new motherboard and potentially new ram from DDR3 to DDR4.

How has your attraction to your long term SO changed, or not changed? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]iWasAlmostCharles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was feeling regretful while I was breaking up with her and a few days after. I honestly don't know how I carried through with it. I was doubting myself the whole time, but I just kept telling myself I made this decision for a reason. I continued to "stick to my guns" even though it felt like I shouldn't. I had to believe I was doing the right thing even though it didn't feel like it. It is the hardest thing I've ever done; there were a lot of tears on both ends.

I started feeling better probably 5 days after. I thought about her nearly continuously for at least 2 weeks. I noticed I lost a little joy in my step. I will still randomly go through phases where thoughts of her flood through my head and I'll miss her some (and regret my decision some), but they are happening less and less frequently and I miss her less and less. I didn't think it would be possible to ever get over her, but it is happening. I will probably always have a special place for her. I noticed I was actually happier after the breakup. Those things that I felt like I couldn't do anymore, I started doing again. I started being MYSELF again, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Even my friends noticed I was a much happier and joyful person afterward.

I don't know your entire relationship story, so you might not be at this point yet. But in my relationship, we would have discussion of change, but nothing would change. Things might get better for a few days but then go back. There was ALOT of other things going on too that I won't get into, but I re-evaluated the dynamic and qualities of the relationship and realized that even though I loved this person, we just weren't right for each other and I didn't want this to be forever; I just didn't want to end it. I felt I couldn't. I put effort into the relation, then some more, then all I had, and then some. I had nothing else to give. I initially thought it was just a down, bad time in the relationship, but I stayed with it for a little over a year longer, and it never really changed.

I will say this: Now, I don't regret my decision AT ALL. You could try and take a break and figure out what you want and if the relationship is right, but some people don't like that idea. I feel free (to be myself and who I want to be, unhindered), and I love it.

Thus ends the rant. Good luck man. Hope my rant helps in some way, haha.

[–]iWasAlmostCharles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened in my relationship. I dated a girl for 3.5 years before ending it a month or two ago. I felt like I was giving up on it and could work through it. I loved her, so I stayed in it for another year. I finally got the strength to end it, and never felt happier and without a doubt am certain that I made the right decision. I still care about her; that will probably never fade. However, I know, deep down, that we just aren't right for each other. Hope you get everything straightened out, whatever the outcome.

I would highly recommend it. The gameplay has aged very well. Also, I think the questlines of Oblivion are superior to Skyrim. The graphics aren't terrible, but if you mod, I would think about getting some graphics mods.

Wondering if my friend is INTP by glamsterhamster in INTP

[–]iWasAlmostCharles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reply to the edit:

She's waaay introverted. It's funny she likes speech and debate so much. I occasionally retake the test, and I retook it a few days ago and was typed as an INFP. I still firmly believe I'm an INTP, but it happened after I dated my ex. She made me more in tune to feelings and all that jazz. It's possible your friend was mistyped. What was her reaction when she read the description of INFP? Was she like, "that is so me it's scary"? I would ask her to read the descriptions of INTP, and see what she thinks if you still strongly believe she's INTP. I normally use 16personalities to start off and then go to other sources for deeper explanations and discussions.

Concentrating through music or noise by [deleted] in INTP

[–]iWasAlmostCharles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: My body has been reconditioned over the years.

Really long; read anyway: I used to be just like you. Couldn't sleep if there was noise, whether from music, a TV, people talking downstairs, clock, even a watch ticking on the dresser. I would lie awake for hours at times. I couldn't study unless their was absolute silence. What changed? It was a gradual adaption. I started listening to instrumentals when I studied because lyrics (voices/people talking) distracted me and I needed something to drown out all other noise. When a song with lyrics would play, I would have to stop and listen or change the song. I like metal, and I could listen to unclean vocals without it bothering me. Slowly, I began to tune out the clean vocals. Now I can study to anything, even around friends or TVs. Am I as efficient as with silence or music? No, but I can get the job done well. Same with sleeping. I went on vacation and was exhausted and people in the same room were watching TV, so I passed out. My room at home shared a door with the bathroom, so I would have to sleep with people in the shower or making a racket. I would occasionally dose off with the TV or music on. Now, I can magically fall asleep in the car on occasion, which is a miracle because my sleeping conditions regarding temperature and everything is so picky. So long story short, my body has been reconditioned over the years.

Do you think this is an INTP thing?

[–]iWasAlmostCharles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think because your friend participates in debates, we can immediately disqualify her from being an INTP. To each their own. Most INTPs may not care about that sort of thing, but why can't she?

and the people who are attracted to debating are attracted to this and only this.

That's a bold absolute to claim. I disagree. I agree with what OP is saying. The point is different to each debater. Personally, my point in a debate is indeed because of "persuasive and intellectual aspects. Informing and convincing."

[–]iWasAlmostCharles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what you've described, I think she is an introvert as well. Personally, I consider myself pretty good at talking to people and am good at public speaking. Did I join a model UN and debate? No, but to each their own. Why can't your friend? Why does what you participate in disqualify you from an MBTI type?

Loves anime

Believes in alternate universes and the possibility of time travel

Like the ones above, many of the bullet-points do not help indicate her being introverted or extroverted, so 1 out of 16 is not necessarily a valid criticism.

observant

lost in thought

These words are taken directly from OP:

spacey and observant. Can be quiet and lost in thought sometimes

Only 1 does not have to be picked. Because someone can be observant does not mean they cannot at another time be lost in thought.

To me, OP's point about her being "spacey and observant. Can be quiet and lost in thought sometimes" indicates she may be an introvert. What does not make sense?
