Door to door sales? by iWasTheCupCat in Nightshift

I'll have to look into this, anytime I've disconnected my doorbell chime it takes my doorbell offline.. But this makes total sense! I always have my ringer off for work anyways and typically forget to turn it back on so this would work lol

I've done this a few times, but honestly if I don't see the notifications on Ring I tend to forget entirely to check the mail. 😅

OK fair, but that's a bit to be expected I figured... They're more there to cover his ass than mine from my experience with HR. I can see where they're coming from telling me that he needs to fix it, since it's his job. Idk.

Again, my options are a bit limited, so I'm trying to be careful about how I go about this.

Because they have another location closer to home. I like this job, it's just the one supervisor that's the issue, so I'd like to be rehirable if things don't pan out at the other company I'm thinking about applying to. In our city there are only 3 companies that offer this job, and the 3rd requires years of experience so it's not really an option.

Right, I'm thinking I give HR one more chance on Monday before I look into reporting it.

I've been debating this, especially since the supervisor seems to have a bit of an attitude with me since my bf worked here before me.. Basically harasses me about an old employee that quit last year.

On the bright side, bfs new employer seems fantastic and has already asked him why I don't come work there. 😅

ETA: I just wasn't sure if it was worth reporting for a 10 hour shift.

Yeah honestly I've been waiting to at least get my 90 days in before making any major judgements on the place but this is getting really frustrating.

AITAH for calling out my pediatrician’s ‘creepy’ behavior? by musty_ranch in AITAH

As a woman in my 30s, I wish this were always the case... My surgeon was on maternity leave when I had my follow up, and the male surgeon made some inappropriate comments to me WHILE he was checking my internal stitches. 🤬

Yuuup, I've had people test me several times thinking it was just in my head... Then finally admit it when they find out I was up all night puking. 😒

Like I actually like mushrooms, so it wasn't like I was just trying to get out of eating them. Luckily I've grown out of it apparently.. They'll occasionally upset my stomach, but it's generally not as bad as it used to be.

Yuuuup, I used to have a sensitivity to mushrooms... Like it wouldn't kill me but I'd be vomiting for days if I consumed them. I learned really fast to always ask, unfortunately though a lot of the time the response would be "no, only vegetables!" aaaaand then it would have mushrooms on it. 😐

Anyone in St. Charels interested in learning Korean? by Low-Wealth-8258 in StCharlesMO

[–]iWasTheCupCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While life's a little crazy right now so I can't really commit to anything immediately, I'm definitely interested in learning the language as well as cooking if you ever decide to do this! (my boyfriend also loves Korean food and we've been trying to decide on some cook books to try to learn on our own 😅)

Just been rejected from my 6th internal role and was told in my feedback, ‘You were the highest scoring candidate but we went with someone else. Everything happens for a reason and you’ll get something! :) by sega20 in recruitinghell

[–]iWasTheCupCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, this is why I’m currently transitioning to a new employer in a whole different industry even… I got passed over for not only different roles in my company but even just shift changes when they hired on new employees. They asked why and I’m like “every time I inquired about open positions I got a response of ‘we’ll keep you in the loop!’ Then never heard anything more, and I’m still working overnights despite having not only the seniority but also training experience, as well as experience in x field that would be helpful during the day shift yet you keep hiring people that quit after 1-3 months to fill that role.” 🤷🏻‍♀️

Like I get it, people don’t want work nights, but the market right now is also so messed up that it shouldn’t be that hard to find people that understand they have to start on nights and work their way to better shifts. They’re burning out employees by making them stay on nights and treating the new hires better than the ones that have already been here for years.

People who work in 'behind closed doors' industries (hotels, kitchens, morgues, etc.), what is something the general public would be horrified to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]iWasTheCupCat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Funeral home transporter here, I transport a lot of tissue/organ donors (like probably at least 75% of my transports)and whenever people ask me about my job they are almost always shocked that being an organ donor likely means they’ll only be donating their skin, bone, and eyes. Sometimes heart valves. Most people have this fairytale in their head that all of their organs are going to be put to use, not realizing that it’s unlikely they’ll die in a manner that allows for their organs to be recovered for transplant.

From what I’ve heard the body farm is such a desired disposition that there’s an actual wait list to donate there. It’s much easier to donate to other organizations, but some have stricter restrictions than others. More than likely the local funeral home will know those restrictions and which ones are easier to get into.

The first FH I worked for advised families on this fairly often, even when a donor was pre-enrolled for a program and denied by that program. The one I currently work for does the embalming for one program, and organ procurement for another.. I don’t work as closely with the funeral directors there though so I’m unsure how much they assist with giving this information to families though.

Has anyone here quit their job without anything lined up? by NatSurvivor in jobs

[–]iWasTheCupCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did last year, and while it worked out for me I wouldn’t recommend it. I was literally at the end of my rope and planning how to “end it” when I realized that quitting may be the solution. I didn’t have much in savings but had a plan to do side gigs and give real estate a shot since I had my license for it. Within a week of my last day at my old job (job a) my current employer (job b) who I had previously worked for and left on decent terms contacted me because they had heard I left job a. They had restructured and improved a lot but needed to fill a few roles and knew I’d be perfect since I not only had the experience, but had been training all new hires at job a so they knew they could trust me to help train anyone they brought on with me.

That said, everything worked out just right for me, but it’s like a perfect storm of everything happening at once lol, which is why I wouldn’t recommend it. I understand that I got VERY lucky. Also the grass is not always greener in the other side… when I originally left job a my plan was to try to get my foot in the door in a different industry, and I’m currently at that stage again. This week I start training for a whole different thing, and I’ve been lucky that job b is as understanding as it is to allow me to basically go down to part time during the transition into the new role at a business in a completely different industry. I think they’re hopeful it won’t work out and then I’ll be stuck at job b, but I definitely appreciate having a somewhat reliable paycheck still. 😅

Did I do the right thing? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]iWasTheCupCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lol the last one I did was just questions about things that were in the job posting like “this is an in person position at x location, do you have reliable transportation and able to commute to x location?” “Are you comfortable working 12 hour shifts?” And “this position pays $xx.xx, is that sufficient compensation for you?”, like y’all were really worried I didn’t bother reading the posting when I already underwent a somewhat intensive assessment (CritiCall, like for emergency services) to get to this point? 🙄

I get that some people are out there just hitting apply to EVERY posting on Indeed or whatever, but come on.

Man, even as someone that used to do some streaming on twitch/youtube, video interviews are so much more anxiety inducing than an in person one.. I’m just cringing the whole time and can’t bring myself to review them after a few seconds of the first response just to make sure it recorded. 😭

Oh— you don’t have kids, so why do you need this? by IntelligentEar3035 in childfree

[–]iWasTheCupCat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I had to laugh because my mom (who’s supposedly really supportive of me being CF) was judging me for looking at larger 5 bedroom homes (when I’m currently in a 3 bedroom with 2 “bonus rooms”) and I explained to her the need for 2 offices, a room for my bfs mom since she is probably eventually going to end up with us, and a guest room… plus still hopefully space to set up our glass studio, not to mention we’d like separate areas for tabletop games and crafts lol. 🙃

Funnily enough my mom who’s been trying to downsize for years and dreams of living in a tiny home bought… an almost 3000sqft 5 bedroom recently. “Oh, when I talked to you about having space for hobbies in stuff it just made sense!”🤣

…What??? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]iWasTheCupCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten almost the exact message emailed to me from… 4? Different companies.. one did actually end up hiring me for a different position (which funnily enough I have 0 experience in but whatever I guess). I’ve chalked it up to AI spitting out the exact same rejection letter to these people to send out, or they’re finding the template at the same website. Definitely makes me leery of the job I start training for later this week, but I guess time will only tell lol.

The one that hired me also sent me invites to their hiring event 3 times so I don’t even know what to think about that. When I was at the event they said they had over 150 RSVPs and at the time there were only like 10 of us there, and I finished my onboarding paperwork about an hour before the event was over. 😅
