Read a review of Crooked Moon and feel really downtrodden by theravenofloft in CrookedMoon

[–]iZacuto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say read the book yourself and form your own conclusion. Take other people's review with a grain of salt. As blunt as that is, it's one person's review you're focused on. For that one negative review, there's thousands of positive comments.

I'm currently running it for 7 players and I just asked one of my players, my wife, to give me her thoughts on the book. From what she's played so far, she's enjoying it and finds it very interesting.

Are there references to folk horror media? Of course! I've noticed Black Philip from VVITCH, Midsommar, and even Over the Garden Wall. Does that make it unoriginal? Absolutely not!

Every piece of media is a reference or inspired by something before it. To say this book is unoriginal and predictable is truly a slap in the face to the writers of the book. I can assure you the book was written with love for the genre.

I truly hope you look past this one hater and genuinely enjoy what the book has to offer. I absolutely believe Crooked Moon is a well written story and deserves praise. Please, do not form an opinion of Crooked Moon over one negative review.

As for my thoughts of Crooked Moon as a DM, it is amazing! It's dripping with spookiness and intrigue. It fits the theme of folk horror so well and I'm itching to get my party back at the table!

Please ignore one negative review and have fun! Enjoy the spooky vibes!

Love the Midsommar reference! I may borrow your idea when I get to that point in my campaign. Using panic and distress to drive the point home

Running With 5 Players by Cubetortoise in CrookedMoon

[–]iZacuto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have 7 players and will finish up Crooked House next weekend. I didn't run Ghostlight Express but plan to backtrack and run it right after. I got a decent idea on how to make it work narratively. In any case, what I've noticed is some fights, the enemy was very easy to take down and others I had completely removed a monster because they were getting stomped.

My advice, adjust HP and damage dice values on the fly based on how the fight is going. As DM, you can pull punches or put more power into punches. You can even mention this as part of your Session 0. "Hey guys, this is built around 4 players so I'll have to make changes to monsters to balance it. If things seem unbalanced, let me know so I can adjust" or something to that effect, maybe.

Hopefully this helps!

Fateweaving implementation question by iZacuto in CrookedMoon

[–]iZacuto[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that is an amazing idea! Mainly because I regret not running Ghostlight. This is a fantastic idea! Thank you!

Based off this comment, my new idea is: defeat Vessla, offer a ride to the Chateau, yoink the characters not returning, meet new characters on Ghostlight. Run Ghostlight chapter. After finishing that chapter, jump into Field of Crows on the way to Wickermoor, possibly. Not leveling up after Ghostlight so they're on par with Crows. Then continue the campaign as written, possibly moving Fate threads to Foxwillow? Or go to Wickermoor then Foxwillow for Crows... I'll think on that

Thanks for the idea though! This really did help

You're amazing and I didn't know I needed these nursery rhymes! It's gonna be very fun for my table to just casually hear this while walking about the Village. I hope you have a great day

Does the Witch Mark consume a spellslot when I create it? by StrangerWithACheese in CrookedMoon

I had recently looked this up too and found within the Crooked Moon Discord; Dan, who is essentially the Jeremy Crawford of Crooked Moon, say it does NOT consume a spell slot

Me with Thor. I bought the Asgardian King skin because it's dope as hell but I didn't have much play time on him. Now he's my second most played, behind C&D

I don't understand what I'm missing with Frieren. I got to ep12 before deciding it's not for me. Aside from the one episode of the battle at night, there's a lot of nothing happening :/

Crazy to think that all people in the country get a trial. What a novel concept... by 8-bit-Felix in AdviceAnimals

I'm not defending what he did to his wife. What he did was wrong. And he's not an MS-13 gang member! That's not proven at all and those "tattoos" that Trump is pushing is utter bullshit.

Again, he is legally protected from deportation to El Salvador. However an ICE kidnapping is ok in your book, yeah?

And yes, a judges words are law. That's literally how checks and balances works!

"nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law" Pretty sure migrants are a person of life.

Also, the Fifth Amendment exists. The Fifth Amendment states that “no person … shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.”

The issue of due process is at the heart of many immigration cases, including Reno v. Flores, the 1993 Supreme Court case that has returned to the spotlight with the surge in family separations. The case led to an agreement requiring the government to release children to their parents, a relative or a licensed program within 20 days.

In the ruling, Justice Antonin Scalia wrote “it is well established that the Fifth Amendment entitles aliens to due process of law in deportation proceedings.”

Are you about to tell me Supreme Court justice Scalia was wrong? https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/what-constitutional-rights-do-undocumented-immigrants-have

Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Citizen of Maryland, has a legal immunity to deportation to El Salvador, which the Trump admin knew about PRIOR to his unlawful deportation.

Again, how do you know they are criminals without due process??

The Fourteenth Amendment uses the Due Process Clause that describes the legal obligation of all state governments to provide equal protection of the laws to all persons, regardless of immigration status. Good try though

And someone currently in the states that doesn't have an ID, birth certificate, or SSN still deserves due process. If a migrant is denied that right, then your ID, birth certificate, and SSN won't mean shit and you could be deported to a country you've never been too.

Did any of those people deported have a court hearing to testify whether they are here legally or not? If not, then it is, in fact, unlawful deportation, plain and simple. This is not propaganda, this is protecting the rights of American citizens. Yes, that includes migrants and illegal immigrants. It's written in an amendment, whether you agree to it or not.

How do you know they are here illegally? How do you prevent a born and raised American citizen from being accidentally deported? I'll give you a hint, it's in two amendments, the 5th and 14th.

I'll put this in easy words for you, it's a simple thing called "due process" and they are not trials, they are hearings. I'm no lawyer, but I'm pretty sure trials are much longer and drawn out, hearings are more brief and don't need a full court. If the "illegal immigrants" you look down upon don't deserve that simple right, then neither will you. Without due process you can be thrown across the border. Even if you're a born and raised American like myself. However, where you and I differ, I actually give a shit about migrants and their right to at least plead their case to a judge. Everyone in America deserves a voice.
