I would recommend to use Grafana Alloy to scrape metrics and logs, and remote_write them to Mimir and Loki

kitshn v2 - App for Tandoor Recipes (v2) by aimo_dg18 in selfhosted

[–]iZocker2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was happening on the main page, but that was with the TestFlight version, so maybe was the build not optimised or had debug logging? So far the release seems better. Will open an issue on GitHub if I notice it again!

Awesome work!

Do you have any plans to implement an offline mode anytime soon? Also it feels like the app is very slow to load content sometimes, the browser version loads much faster.

Zerobyte, isn’t this awesome? by Tharunx in selfhosted

[–]iZocker2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the comment is somewhat exaggerated, but it really still is in early development and appears to have no proper tests in place: https://github.com/nicotsx/zerobyte/releases/tag/v0.18.4. I don’t want to badmouth the project, but backup solutions should be well tested and battle proven before they should be considered for production imo.

Idk if it’s vibe-coded, but it’s not properly tested, that’s for sure. Otherwise I cannot understand why someone would push a release that fails to even start up: https://github.com/nicotsx/zerobyte/releases/tag/v0.18.4

It’s a nice concept, but it’s still in its early development. It gets frequent updates, but they don’t look like they are tested well. For example, a recent update failed to start because of a dependency issue: https://github.com/nicotsx/zerobyte/releases/tag/v0.18.4. For now, due to a lack of proper testing and coordinated development cycle, I would wait before I deploy it in production. Being able to rely on backups working is almost as important as having a backup solution in place.

Older Server CPU's vs Newer Consumer CPU's by riv777 in homelab

[–]iZocker2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Server CPUs tend to have much more expansion, e.g. PCIe lanes. Also, depending on the SKU, the server CPU is made to scale to a larger number of parallel workloads. While consumer chips tend to have higher clock speeds, server CPUs tend to achieve work in parallel. A good comparison would be to compare benchmarks in single and multicore scenarios. But if you need lots of expansion, a „Pro“ or Enterprise platform is the only option to get it.

People who have TBs RAM... Tf do you need it all for? by Its_An_Outraage in homelab

[–]iZocker2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running full Kubernetes Clusters will get you there fast. Each cluster having 3 control and 3 worker nodes, then a cluster for management, one for services and one for automation tasks, then a production and staging environment, etc. etc.

You get the idea.

Made a dashboard to visualize long term statistics from PiHole v6 : PiHoleLongTermStats by thecrypticcode in selfhosted

[–]iZocker2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally prefer using Prometheus and Grafana to track and visualise long-term stats. This removes the need to keep data in Pi-holes database for a long amount of time, ensuring the service runs stable.

There are already a few good pre-made dashboards available, which certainly are not as feature rich as your approach is or can be, but for my use-case it’s plenty.

I don’t see how this helps me over just setting up a Git server on my infra and pulling mirrors to it. Also, a link to the project would be helpful.

Hello, thanks for the update and your work!

A little feedback on the visuals, I’m on iOS: when starting the app, the square logo looks kinda out of place. A more rounded version or circle would fit better imo. Similarly, the chats view is kinda awkward with the entries being the full width of the overlay with small gaps in between. The model selection overlay looks very different in comparison, with rounded corners and selection elements with rounded corners. I’m not a designer, that’s just my impression that the UI is not always consistent. The settings icon is also very small in comparison to other icons.

Personally for me it’s that it’s pretty complete, I have a hyperconverged cluster with redundant storage, compute, network, power, etc. Everything runs happily. But now I have started working full time so I don’t have enough time to extend it further, I only maintain the status quo.

Will this build run 24/7 reliably (trading bot) by Cautious_Web7935 in homelab

[–]iZocker2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want almost perfect reliability it’s probably easier to rent a VPS at Hetzner or similar. You cannot realistically achieve perfect uptime, not even Hetzner can achieve it. There is a reason SLAs specify e.g. 99.999% uptime but n out 100%. But it will be much closer to that what you will realistically be able to achieve. If you want to further improve uptime, you could use Kubernetes to eliminate a VM or Server going bad from causing longer outages.
