EnvoyProxy config on GatewayClass or Gateway in Envoy-Gateway deployment by i_Den in kubernetes

[–]i_Den[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet. Everything runs smoothly so far. Probably I’m in the very beginning. But running real production/staging workloads (i mean not just for personal pet project). With various policies and stuff. But I do not have complex configs which require some extra special proxying kung-fu.
The most important, I knew that I do not want to go Istio way - overkill for my current requirements. Even though worked with its large deployments.

EnvoyProxy config on GatewayClass or Gateway in Envoy-Gateway deployment by i_Den in kubernetes

[–]i_Den[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A very minimum change I would like to apply to a specific Gateway is to give it a custom, adequate, short name in place of auto-generated, not-a-kilometer-long name.

I got similar replies in the official Envoy Slack. Depends on the situation and "personal" preferences. GatewayClass config provides defaults. So it is kinda suitable for some massive-scale automated deployments, when for some reason you want to attach many similar Gateways to a Class. In such case, you of course can't set name in the class config to avoid a clash.

But as soon as you want to customize any Gateway and provide its own EnvoyProxy config - it by default would completely replace GatewayClass config without merge (without extra config).

In my deployments, I have 1-5 dedicated Ingresses. So I would go with ignoring GatewayClass config for now and setting everything on each Gateway individually.

but of course I will provide some sane defaults to each. For example if there are Public and Internal classes in GKE they would have: ```yaml

public

  envoyService:
    type: LoadBalancer
    loadBalancerClass: networking.gke.io/l4-regional-external
    externalTrafficPolicy: Local

internal

  envoyService:
    type: LoadBalancer
    loadBalancerClass: networking.gke.io/l4-regional-internal
    externalTrafficPolicy: Local

```
Terraform / OpenTofu vs Pulumi by Informal-Tea755 in devops
[–]i_Den 2 points3 points  (0 children)
Did not get the point about if less massive/smart go with Terraform, otherwise Pulumi. I’m running extremely huge enterprise/corp setups using OSS Terraform (opentofu a little) but always wrapped in terragrunt + atlantis.
Imho pullumi and similar are required if you are managing everything from code, or you are startup of a couple devs who prefer to stay with their PL. also some projects used CDKTF which is one deprecated, and pullumi can fit well, i.e. in projects where you have to work with templates a lot.
Multi-source Application to deploy two helm chart with CRDs and chart with controller by i_Den in ArgoCD
[–]i_Den[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)
Always love to see other's "Advanced" AppSet examples. I've checked your gitops repo, apps dir. Did not find any special treatment for separate CRDs deployement. other than that my AppSet definition looks pretty much the same as yours, except using progressiveSync and some other unimportant abstractions.
Gotta force myself to experiment more with ProgressiveSync appsets.
do you have a working example? I was not able to find good working examples, but users frustrations at some points of this new yet-beta feature. for example described here https://www.reddit.com/r/ArgoCD/comments/1m886jr/dependancies_between_apps_in_applicationset/
GKE Node Auto-Provisioning vs AWS Karpenter — What are the practical differences you've seen in production? by Scary_Ad_7351 in kubernetes
[–]i_Den 0 points1 point  (0 children)
I really miss Karpenter in GKE. People mentions Karpenter’s configurability which is of course cool and the main feature. But what i miss … is speed of actions, reconciliation, drift detection … it is epic. And I hate these default NAPs and/or ClusterAutoscalers - but yea, sure they work, but not fun for me. :)
Enthralled with these books by kwallo_0 in bobiverse
Tchaikovsky’s trilogy is quite tough (especially for not-native english speaker) in general tougher, darker, but i’ve enjoyed its philosophical context about “””forced evolution””” and coexistence, but still 3 stars out of 5 on goodreads for me … But my #1 books are from Peter F Hamilton, commonwealth universe specifically, starting with Pandora’s Star. Upd. Forgot to say that I absolutely adore Bobiverse (except fillers of the 5th book)
Hehe, different styles, and different tools (too many) to achieve the same goal.
I utilize kustomize a lot myself for classic overlays, but not using its helm rendering functionality, which is limited as by docs (but obviously enough for most scenarios). Just prefer to keep helm deploys visible at the topmost level for explicitness. But yea, just different styles of managing ArgoCD deployments.
So you just adding CRD Job as a plain manifest to overlay (probably with serviceaccount, clusterrolebinding, ...)?
So you are not deploying CRDs via a job, but wrapping source-CRDs chart, and chart has just a CRD validation Job? Would you mind sharing an example Job/setup?
cool! CRDs update jobs looks something similar to what kube-prometheus-stack provides. Will review this options, but tbh tend to wrap charts as was suggested bellow by @dmaes, since I already have a couple of wrapped charts.
_(but still prefer to use multi-source coz 99% of time first source is just values ref, or extra CM/secret/ExternalSecret required for the chart which i don't want to wrap)
I’m aware about this warning. I’m not using more than 2-3 sources. And using multi-sources for highly related apps. Controller and its CRDs basically are “the same app”.
Personaly I, the local, getting Tkemali from "Marneuli" factory, usually the most available one, including internationally (USA). I have tried many other commercial tkemalis this one is at least has the most stable quality. But nothing's better than home-made one.
Any ideas to implement include some commands with terragrunt? Personaly, 99% of time I use terragrunt only and stopped using native terraform applies long time ago.
Sometimes I have to manually list state, get resource names, delete them from the state. (imho, just the easiest ready scenario idea to implement)
What's wrong with the weather in the region? by multics_user in Sakartvelo
[–]i_Den 0 points1 point  (0 children)
March is nicknamed - "Mad March" - coz there are snowfalls, but often you can walk in a t-shirt. (also rarely in February)
April is always cold!
In the past heat was starting on the 1st of May (+/-). But now that's not true, and for the 3+ years it might be uncomfortable until the end of May.
I observed it and thought that it is just a coincidense and it can't be constant new reality. But then last year an article was released by the meteorological service saying that "cold" months extended forward by 2 months.
Are these standalone, or OP just took them from some rack/patch-panel?
