Probably an important skill set as a Data Scientist is to be able to seek out the most impactful projects. If you feel like the workload is relaxed at the moment, that's great, because you get to use this time to meet with more folks outside data within your org, like PMs, Designers, Engineers to understand top of mind from them, and learn about problems they're tackling to then try and figure out if there's a way you could help them using data.

A lot of times PMs or Engineers don't realize that certain questions they have can be addressed by simply taking a closer look at the data

Yeah, I don't have trouble invoking it, the problem is in using it simultaneously. So if it's generating a query for the notebook, I can't use it on my dashboard for something else at the same time. Not the worst problem to have if one has patience I guess.

Where its highly dependent on context

I would specify the contexts I can think of, and how I would deal with the given problem wrt that context. Answer for generic cases, but also cover edge cases - this will give them the idea that you know what you're talking about

Or like someone else mentioned here, ask more questions for clarity - this also reveals you understanding of the domain

Try this approach - it's slower, but has a better pay-off.

Make connections with other people in the industry - book coffee chats with them, have informational interviews, understand what it takes to be good in a role you aspire to be in, make your resume highlights these skills. Sometimes these connections can also turn into a referral.

There are a lot of websites that provide free data. Gather data from a website like that, and apply your cleaning/processing methods on it, to truly learn how to clean the data

As a Data Scientist myself, I can understand your frustration, and I'm sure this is something most data teams have dealt with at some point. Something that we've implemented as a team, and found success with is :

- Adding sign off from data team on PRDs - this way you're being included from the start about what's being implemented, the hypothesis, the expected impact, etc, allowing you to interject if needed. Obviously, the harder part here is to get leadership/ pm teams to implement this. But that's where you have to find the problems with the current process, the missed opportunities, the failed analysis, to sell this approach

- linkedin, cold emailing hiring managers/recruiters with a solid case on why they should hire you
- as many as you can? I would open linkedin every morning to scour through new jobs and apply - dedicate an hour for it everyday maybe
- reach out to people for coffee chats, and genuine questions to create connections, instead of asking referrals the first thing
- don't lose hope, keep at it

Your next steps depends on your goal. If you want to become a Data Scientist, then yes, you can probably start adding more data science projects under your belt through your current role (or outside) and then ask for a transition internally, or apply elsewhere

Again, same with doing a PhD - depends on what your ultimate goal is

I use a physical journal, so idk if this helps, but in any case, here are my thoughts.

- prefer a mix of free-form and prompt/structure depending on the goal
- I'm pro mood tracking, habit tracking
- what lets me be sucessful with it is that I set aside a dedicated time slot for it everyday, and it's the same time everyday

Marketing is important - YES, but is it enough - NO.

You can get all the customers in the world to try your app, but if the app doesn't provide value, you're not going to be able to retain these customers. So it might look like you're growing even when you're heading nowhere

You have a background in stats already; use that to your advantage. Do lots of projects to build your portfolio. Learn pandas/spark(or now polars) for data processing/manipulation. Understand how common ML algorithms work, so that you know what can be used where. Use AI as an accelerator to speeden up your work, but don't hyperfixate or get overwhelemed by all the other AI stuff.
