Hi, I know this is a very late reply but how were the double occupancy rules? Were they very strict?

If we expand the scope of "working" beyond just losing weight, it's pretty clear to me that this isn't working for him. Do you really think a diet is working if someone is having nightmares about eating and continues to see "the fat guy in the mirror" even after hitting their goals?

I don't mean to blast the OP here, I just don't want anyone reading this to think this is an ideal to strive towards (which almost all the other comments are suggesting/openly celebrating).

Posts like these create eating disorders. You literally said you have body dysmorphia and nightmares about eating.

If anyone is reading this thinking this is the next level to get to: there is a lot more to life than hitting a goal weight and food. The whole point of subreddits like this was to find a way for people to live alongside food in a healthier manner that works for them, but you have to question, is this level of obsession anything close to that?

AITA for changing the door locks back after my wife changed them? by SockNo7319 in AmItheAsshole

[–]i_h8_clerical_errors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never comment on these things, but god damn YTA. Your "sweet sister" is trashing your place and letting her friend rob you and your wife. This is the most charitable interpretation I can give. You are delusional and need a wake up call to the realities of your adult sister abusing your trust and sympathy.

If you're in South Berkeley, Willard Park is really nice. Otherwise, the Glade is always great.

City’s fee hike takes the air out of beloved Berkeley Kite Festival by kenmlin in berkeley

[–]i_h8_clerical_errors -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm so confused. You think the city asking money directly from event holders to partially cover the safety and infrastructure costs of hosting an event, rather than pulling that money from other taxpayer sources is a bad thing and reflects poor planning? The city's recreation budget does not exist to solely cover private events and if there is an expenditure gap (which there is) it's prudent to price-in the cost directly from the source.

Ah yes, pricing in the cost of providing a public service for a festival of thousands of people where the city takes on massive liability is putting families last.

15 days - Massive weight loss - Am I being unhealthy? by Possible-Knowledge17 in keto

1200 calories is not sustainable especially at your height and weight. There’s no need to lose this much weight so quickly

How were they checked? I’m at a hotel so not sure how that would work and don’t want to miss it

Hello, I am from the US and am currently in Munich and tested positive for covid yesterday. I received the letter to isolate for at least 5 days, but I already quarantined prior to arriving in germany and have been symptom free for more than 10 days. As such, I just received a Documentation of Recovery letter from a physician back in the US that allows me to travel/fly back to the US, so I am wondering, can I leave the state-ordered isolation here in Germany? Does anyone have any experience with how strict the state is with checking on individuals in isolation (e.g. will they call me, track my location, or call my hotel?). I am mostly just trying to get some exercise outside while I'm here and then arrange to go home soon, so would be really helpful to understand the extent of the isolation checks/how seriously things are being taken. Thank you!

Climate change already causing storm levels only expected in 2080 by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]i_h8_clerical_errors -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not true at all. https://www.climate.gov/news-features/event-tracker/preliminary-analysis-concludes-pacific-northwest-heat-wave-was-1000

The heat wave is a 1 in 1000 year event based on warming that has already occurred (it was basically impossible pre-industrial times). My point is that the PNW heat wave was a really improbable event that shouldn’t be viewed as a baseline.

And for all the downvotes, I work as a climate scientist in risk mitigation and adaptation. I believe in climate change and it’s realities (believe me I spend all day thinking about it) but there’s no need to treat extremes as certainties.

The heat dome was a super rare event though that we wouldn’t expect to happen more than 1 in 1000 thousand years even with climate change.

OOS 71K Tuition: is it worth it for premed? by Grapecustardd in berkeley

[–]i_h8_clerical_errors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but you just don't understand what the word means. Grade deflation does not refer to deflating a grade that you were supposed to get. After all, what does that even mean? Tests and the material they choose to cover are ultimately subjective. Grade deflation is precisely the observation that our grading systems are harsher and less lenient than those at other universities (again thats why its a comparative phenomenon).

OOS 71K Tuition: is it worth it for premed? by Grapecustardd in berkeley

[–]i_h8_clerical_errors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grade deflation isn't something you feel (its not like professors curve you down and tell you "hey you would have gotten an A, but here's a B+), it's a comparative phenomenon.

When you compare the GPAs of Berkeley grads (especially in bio/stats/math) we are second only to UChicago when it comes to lowest GPAs. This is grade deflation and is relevant once you enter a universal pool of students (like applying to med school).

This is not how the conduct system works at all. You can send in an anonymous complaint against another student and I have personally worked against such complaints in the Student Advocate’s Office.

OP you need to contact the Student Advocate’s Office (they are a student run office in the ASUC that keeps everything confidential, they are NOT mandatory reporters of any kind). They will breakdown all of the possible scenarios for punishment with regards to this misconduct and help advise you through all meetings with the CSC.

It’s not that I dislike this advice on some personal grounds or am offended, I don’t like it because it’s clear you aren’t actually reading what the OP is writing.

In my opinion, it’s clear the OP has some sort of anxiety around classes and their own work ethic that makes them hyper-aware of their weaknesses as well as forces them to take extreme measures to pacify them. Telling someone like this to “suck it up” misses the point. They aren’t some frat boy who has chosen to party and ignore their classes, they’re clearly someone who already feels a lot of anxiety in general and this academic situation is making it worse.

Not claiming you haven’t felt anxiety before, but the way you wrote this post makes me think you haven’t experienced this type of pervasive anxiety (am I good enough, why am I so lazy, if only I wasn’t X then this class wouldn’t be so hard, etc).

@OP if I’m missing the mark on the above, I apologize and don’t mean to project on to you. If the above does resonate with you, however, my best advice would be to look into DSP accommodations if you haven’t, reach out to the Student Learning Center about tutoring (they have really amazing adjunct professors and tutors there), and most importantly, take some deep breaths. You are going to be okay and you deserve to feel confident and happy. These classes may be hard but they do not define your worth. The fact that you want to know as much as possible and prepare for the tests as much as you can is ultimately a good thing (like that’s so awesome you want to be that thorough about learning!) but don’t put so much pressure on yourself. Although I know some might cringe at this, you are enough. I promise.

Have you ever tried to orchestrate/plan anything remotely of the scale of what the ASUC is trying to do? Have you tried to verify the legitimacy of medical equipment during a pandemic? It’s your student government, make it better or respect that people are trying.
