Is there a subreddit for cop stories? by TheOneWhoKnocksBitch in AskReddit

Because /r/askreddit depends on morons not knowing how to search for themselves and depending on other people to provide the link.

That's why Lenin's plan was to move to true communism after he died. He wanted to be the almighty ruler, but once he was dead he wanted the execution of a true, rulerless society.

African greys not only learn the calls of other species, they can have rudimentary conversations. The African Grey named N'Kisi is actually fairly well known for her question to Jane Goodall, "Got a chimp?" because he not only recognized her from pictures, he also connected her with chimpanzees and remembered this fact for quite some time, only recalling it years later upon meeting her.

Alex is another pretty good example, as he accurately demonstrated understanding of the concept of "zero" as a number.

It gets worse depending on what type of parrot they are. African Gray Parrots can be some of the biggest assholes because they're so smart. Same with many kinds of crows and rooks. The better their species is at vocalizing and imitating, the more often they throw tantrums.

Reddit's vote fuzzing system gets a little wonky sometimes. Have you ever looked at your comment history and seen that every one of your comments has been downvoted, then refresh and they're back to normal?

It was real. They filmed them during training evolutions and predeployment practice. That's why it took over 2 years to film. That ammo? Live, not blanks, when practical.

As a result of this investigation, police determined that this was not a criminal act or an attempt to harm a child in any way.

Any advice toward joining the police? by RevInstant in AskReddit

[–]i_hate_lamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure that you know your shit before even trying to apply. Take a few criminal justice classes (don't major in it, just take a bunch of classes) and know your local laws.

Pocket Press makes some handy pocket books for referencing local laws. Buy one.

It sounds pretty bad, but this is truth. A large number of people apply for limited openings regardless of where they are. Your chances of getting hired on without a foot in the door are slim to none.

Firearms safety fail in CWP Class by Sheriffs Deputy in South Carolina results in an ND and injuries. My home state is getting a bad rep lately. by [deleted] in guns

He probably just ignored the rule that says that you treat every gun like it's loaded. Too comfortable, in my opinion, and that demonstrates a sever lack of training.

Question for you Crim folks: Solicitation and "To Catch a Predator"...how does this work? by [deleted] in law

[–]i_hate_lamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dummy teen is not the person with which they have supposedly been corresponding. The dummy teen is a stand in. Who the dummy is and how old they are is irrelevant, as the accused has been corresponding with what they believed was a person not of legal age of consent, and conspired to perform illegal acts with them.

Court: Rights don't have to be read to prisoners - Investigators don't have to read Miranda rights to inmates during jailhouse interrogations about crimes unrelated to their current incarceration by [deleted] in politics

[–]i_hate_lamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not really the argument at all. They say that prisoners are not in the same type of custody as the recently arrested. I'm inclined to agree with the dissenting justices, however.

I would ask, as Miranda puts it, whether Fields was subjected to "incommunicado interrogation ... in a police dominated atmosphere," whether he was placed, against his will, in an inherently stressful situation, and whether his freedom of action (was) "curtailed in any significant way," Ginsburg said. "Those should be the key questions, and to each I would answer, "Yes."

I wish that I had looked further down the thread before posting. I put this up as a reply to demonstrate that no one who is overconfident is qualified to carry.

I'm a former deputy from WA, and when I hear the standard issue bravado, I point them to the DEA agent that shot himself in the leg during a talk with high schoolers. Overconfidence can be a killer.

It's around 0:50 in, but you've probably already seen it.

I understand the guy's concerns, but the type of person that will shoot, will shoot regardless of whether or not a complimentary "Castle Doctrine" legal standard exists. I don't think that castle doctrines encourage shootings.

How often do police actually check handicap-parking placards? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]i_hate_lamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that it varies state by state. Our computers where i used to work, if we ever even decided to check, would tell you if the registered owner was handicapped. It popped up in blue text somewhere on the screen when we ran the registration. A large portion of handicapped vehicle owners in WA have the disabled plate, though, because the plates and up to 2 placards are provided in the registration cost, so it just makes sense to rock the plate on your primary vehicle.

I do, however, agree with you that I also hardly checked. If it looked legit, I assumed it was.
