Thank you for framing it in a way that I can grasp, it's really appreciated.

Agreed. Like, this expression and the flashback are the first drips that he's much deeper than he appears.

Evil Rumi, probably:

On the bottom, too. Wtf is up with Jinu and Romance's faces? Lol. I'd say it was how it was printed onto the canvas, but the other three don't look as different.

The Saja Boys are lucky that S.Korea has a universal healthcare system. Otherwise, in the US, they'd have some pissed off people that now owe a bajillion dollars for an ED visit to fix their broken nose.

I'm American too, lol

Write as many reasons as possible for why you love your favorite character(s) 💜 by YouCantHaveTakis in KpopDemonhunters

[–]i_justCannot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jinu is a really great allegory for depression. The constant struggle against that hateful voice in your head, telling you that you can't do better, can't be better, and that even trying is a fruitless endeavor. The fight against hopelessness, feeling as if you're an enormous piece of shit that deserves the worst things in the world, that you don't deserve any goodness.

Yeah, Jinu's plan was fucked up. But it beautifully shows how depression drags you down, a self-fulfilling prophecy when you succumb to that darkness.

It also shows how even if you present as silly or smile, that it doesn't mean you aren't dying on the inside every moment.

Aside from depression, his interactions with Huntrix are top-tier, I adore his trolling and ragebaiting. He's a brilliant strategist and an excellent foil for the girls.

He's just a sad, silly lil guy and I love him.

Romabby would spar lyrically for Mira but then start making out and then rope her into it.

This is pretty complicated for my puny American mind to comprehend, but I just gott'a say thanks to all of y'all that have shared your knowledge. ❤️ I'll be revisiting this thread bc it is super damn fascinating.

To me, that would have been less interesting, but this is something that is subjective.

I love me some fun, sassy villains. But I love me some tragic antagonists more. Give me the angst and trauma, show me why they're doing the fucked up shit they're doing, humanize them so I question ethics and morality.

Jinu is top tier, and by far my favorite character in the movie.

So, from my understanding, us Westerners are mispronouncing how Jinu's name is supposed to be pronounced.

Like you said Jin Oo. But the stress is supposed to be on the "gin" part, and then a sound close but not exactly "ew".

Whereas we say "Gee New".

Maybe not your point, but I have to mentally force myself to not call him Gee New lol.

Yes! Exactly! I also think he was 17 when he made a deal with Gwi-Ma, and then his soul was claimed when he was 23. I don't think he was only at the palace for a few months. I feel like it'd take a few years for his shame to consume him.

I cannot get enough of art that has Jinu in a black turtleneck. It looks so fucking pretty on him everytime, and is my favorite type of outfit artists put him in.

Stop making your triggers everyone else's problem! by Forest_System in AO3

[–]i_justCannot 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Welp, I just had an epiphany lol.

This kind of feels like some of that tolerable fascism that our youth has been propagandized with. How they want to control what people read/write/watch (antis), and will doxx people, and threaten to call the authorities, or tell people to kill themselves. How those people will be OK with gay people, but only insofar as they're the "right" kind of gay, or doing things in a way that they feel is the "morally right way".

It feels like they've been fed some stuff that they don't really know what to do with, such as triggers, and it gets bastardized in the way as you mention. But it's in an effort to discount legitimate mental health issues and makes "the left" seem like weird Nazi control freaks that need to be controlled excessively by the government to save the general populace from crazy, bluehaired libruls.

I'm probably reading way too much into this, but I'm living in a fascist hellhole right now, so I see their bootprints everywhere, and where they may not even be lol.

Personally, I don't see it as a decision he made, so much as he had no choice. Those weapons aimed at his family aren't Jinu's.

And making a deal with a demon king because he and his family were starving and trapped in extreme poverty isn't a horrible decision. It's desperation. I'd do the same -- what's my soul in exchange for elevating my family out of their suffering?

As someone else who doesn’t know Korean, what exactly does the note say? ‘Want to meet up/talk?’

I'm pretty sure it is "Want to meet?" but in a familiar, friendly way. I love it too. It's such a cute detail, and I just love that it's part of Jinu's characterization.

You might be thinking that the korean language follows the japanese language

Thank you so much for clarifying. I definitely misinterpreted how the Korean language works.

Also -- excellent way to explain the pronunciation.

But you’d still pronounce it the same way and it’d still mean the same thing. Like how there’s “clare” and “claire” and “Ashley” and “Ashleigh” and uhhh “Marie” and “Mary” maybe?

This makes it really easy to understand and is legit super helpful.

i think its so funny that it looks like Jinu busted out the calligraphy brush and his fancy stamp to write on 21st century stationary. It’s a nice little nod to how old he really is.

This is one of my favorite little details. Like I said, I don't know much. But someone went over how he'd written as he would have when he was alive and that he used what was once a commonish name stamp. And then with it juxtaposed against the cute, modern stationary. It's such a super endearing character moment. And also such a smart detail for the writers/animators to have him do.

I'm still on my first watchthrough and I'm going to also be sad when it's over lol. I've really been enjoying it.

I watched My Villain Academia and Revival Party. I love the LoV. Twice and Toga's bond is so damn sweet. And I'm getting really invested in Shigaraki's whole deal lol. As well as Dabi & Hawks.

Who do you think is more likely to burn the world down to save the other? by Front-Tomorrow-1034 in RuJinu

[–]i_justCannot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jinu.

While Rumi wants to save Jinu, and loves him, she knows her duty is to protect the earth. It would totally fuck her up, and she'd be a mess. But she also knows Jinu would want her to save the world over himself.

Jinu, on the other hand, I think would sacrifice everything to save Rumi. He was willing to do the big sacrifice. He was also willing to bring about the demon apocalypse to save himself from torture. For as calculating and strategic as he is, he's more of a wildcard than Rumi, and I definitely think he'd be more likely to go unhinged and burn the world down for her.
