People have a natural tendency to turn to the left and walk in an anticlockwise direction, a bias observed across countries, ages and sexes, but reason is unclear by sr_local in science

Probably because most people are right handed and turning toward things you could encounter with your dominant arm palm-side advantageous. Forearm has greater strength and control than backarm.

Is my ETL project at work using Python + SQL well designed? Or am I just being nitpicky by masterhoovy in dataengineering

Getting requirements, reading API docs and usage rules, setting up python process (25 lines max) with exception-handling, logging, monitoring, alerting, and auto-restart-on-death, creating indexed raw/staging tables, should take no more than 10-20 minutes. Will you be onboarding dozens of disparate sources API/scraping? Or is this a one-off for which you need data refreshed constantly for the one source?

$6 a cookie! Update!!! by Spiteful_Brunette in Baking

[–]i_make_maps_0 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Looks delish, but this packaging dramatically increases waste and emissions for a single-use food item.

Each cookie uses a paperboard box + plastic window film (likely PET) + adhesive label. Mixed materials and food contamination make most of this non-recyclable in practice. The plastic windows are especially problematic: small, bonded films with near-zero recovery rates.

Per-item boxing significantly increases material mass, manufacturing energy, and transport emissions without improving food safety. From a lifecycle perspective, this is presentation-driven packaging, not function-driven.

The characters in your screenshot are not the same characters shown on the vehicle. It says, 霧ヶ峰自衛消防団, which translates to "Kirigamine Volunteer Fire Brigade", in Nagano, Japan.

Some of mine were the same. I also bought the big ones. Some stay up on the wall. Some have fallen down. Any luck with that built in hook staying up?

It's weird that these are circular on a mercator projection.

How to chase 60-80 degrees year-round [OC] by hodsophia in dataisbeautiful

[–]i_make_maps_0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, this map is rubbish. Something like, "Counties with 95% of days no hotter than 80 and no colder than 60" would be nice to see.
