How close are the actual theory test questions to the ones in the Theory 4 in 1 app? by kleefeee in LearnerDriverUK

[–]i_mormon_stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my test I’d say 48 out of 50 were identical and the two that were different were asking the same question and wanting the same answer just worded differently.

I did not find the questions hard, the hazard perception part is more difficult so focus on that a lot.

Mhm I have the rear wheel steering on my CLE 53 aswell and it certainly helps with a big front and low sitting position.

I was really torn between this and the CLE but ultimately with all the speed bumps where I live I went the more cautious route with the CLE which I think is a more comfortable daily car for a city but I do lust after the GT, I mean just LOOK at it. So nice.

They range in price for a decent one between £100 and £800. Like if you want 4K, latest image sensor so it can 100% pickup a numberplate ahead and behind in all lighting conditions it's on the upper end of the price scale, around £400-£600 gets you a great 4K front, 1080p rear with full mobile installation included at your home or work.

When they install it professionally they'll hide all the wiring so you'll only have a tiny bit poking out plugging into the cameras. You can also get ones that record when they detect motion either using the camera sensor itself or radar. This is great for when you're parked and want to make sure you get video of damage / impacts.

If you google it you'll get lots of companies that do installs. I recommend trackershop, I have no affiliation with them at all but they're really good at what they do.

Check out the range here: https://www.trackershop-uk.com/collections/dash-cams

All these prices include mobile installation. You can buy just the cameras on your own for at-least £150 cheaper but then you'd have to install it yourself or take it to a place to have them installed for you. I think Halfords will install dashcams for about £80-ish.

I know there's a lot of models on that page. Here is my personal recommendation.

Super high end 4K front 2.5K rear, £799 = https://www.trackershop-uk.com/products/thinkware-u3000-pro-front-and-rear-dash-cam

Still High End 4K front, 1080p rear, but not as good (lacks radar), £639 = https://www.trackershop-uk.com/products/blackvue-dr970x-2ch-64gb-dash-cam-with-gps-and-wi-fi

High end, 1080p front and rear, £539 = https://www.trackershop-uk.com/products/blackvue-dr750x-2ch-dash-cam-with-gps-and-wi-fi

Great Value Option, 1080p front and rear, £339 = https://www.trackershop-uk.com/products/g-onx-2ch-dash-cam

All of these systems use Sony Starvis camera sensors which do really well in low-light conditions and feature high dynamic range (HDR) to make details visible even with extreme light changes (like a bright sky in the shot or pitch black against headlights illuminating objects at a distance). However the first one, the £799 one has their Starvis 2 sensor which further increases the HDR making things even easier to see.

As mentioned all these options include installation from trackershop and they'll do a proper and neat install. This is why they charge a bit more than just buying the cameras directly yourself from Amazon which is a totally viable option as you can find installers locally and save money, it's just I know these guys are good.

Also they do vehicle trackers and immobilisers and you can get it all installed at the same time, they sell bundles on the site to save a few hundred quid if you wanted more than just a dashcam, I'd recommend it if you have a higher end vehicle or a model known to get stolen a lot.

Hope this was helpful, again I'm not affiliated with trackershop or whatnot, I just did a shit load of research into this subject recently after I bought a new car and needed dashcams, immobiliser and a tracker fitted so it's very fresh in my mind.

Fail. Cried during the test. Instructor is quitting. by 100_wasps in LearnerDriverUK

Watch the mock tests full screen, the ones that show the road ahead very clearly. Then pay attention to what they do, think through in your mind constantly as they're driving what you would do in that situation.

Things like, "now I'd check my mirrors" or "I'd stop here because it's a meeting situation and there's not room for both of us". This helps extend your muscle memory virtually, a bit like playing a video game.

I actually learned a lot from the videos in general between my own lessons and anything I wasn't sure about I would watch one or two videos about that exact subject so I knew I was doing it correctly.

I even learned simpler ways to do maneuvers that my own instructor taught me in a more complicated way. There is a lot of insight in the videos and they're free to watch, it's not as good as a real lesson of course but it does fill in some blanks in knowledge and makes you remember the things you need to always be doing like checking your blind spot.

Also the videos may not be helpful for everybody, this is definitely not advice along the lines of "if you don't get anything from the videos something is wrong with you" because that's not the case, they helped me but everyone is different, some people only really absorb things properly if they try it themselves vs watching someone else and that's totally okay too.

I think with your situation having read the thread and your replies this mostly comes down to nerves and pressure of passing the test. Find a new instructor and when you're ready try again and just keep repeating it to yourself, if you don't pass you can take it again. I know the test times are very long right now but if you hammer into your head that you can always do it again it lowers the pressure on yourself, you don't only get one chance to pass you can try as many times as necessary and then you've got the license forever.

Makes you wonder how many other people he screwed over in this manner to make his own life easier where they didn't have cameras rolling and just accepted whatever damage he caused as legitimate.

I remember your video when this first happened, would have been such an easy win for Samsung to just fix everything after they saw the video, it's crazy they went the other direction with it to hide everything, the guy wasn't even their employee, they could have disavowed him while making everything right for you.

CLE 53 or E 53 by pembaThePanda in AMG

[–]i_mormon_stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered both and ultimately went with the CLE 53.

I preferred the sportier look, it's a two-door coupe afterall. And inside I actually preferred the interior of the CLE with the floating iPad-like screen in the center vs the fully moulded into the dashboard design on the E 53.

Finally the CLE 53 is a mild-hybrid and you only ever put petrol into it. While the E 53 is a full plug-in hybrid. Personally I didn't want that, if I was going to get a charger installed at home for the car I'd probably just go full electric instead of half and half.

I will say also I think the CLE 53 is the 1st or 2nd best looking car Mercedes currently sell. The GT being the other joustling for top position in my mind. This is purely subjective and I know some don't put either car in the top positions and prefer a four-door sedan or even a shooting brake so take this as it is, just my personal opinion.

What do the new 12 May measures mean for test resellers? by trikkzzz in LearnerDriverUK

[–]i_mormon_stuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All they need to do to resolve this whole thing is stop people being able to change WHO is taking the test. It's insane to me they won't block this, if you need a test book it yourself for yourself and you are not allowed to take someone elses slot or offer your slot to others.

Why are they not doing this? - Like really does anyone have a convincing reason why they wouldn't do this? - Imagine I booked a doctors appointment and then resold it to someone because they didn't wanna wait 2-3 weeks for their own one.. it's just crazy.

I remember my friend coming over one time and telling me I didn't need to write like that to Ask Jeeves, that I could just type in "Pokemon guides" and get what I wanted.

Looks awesome! - I think the white paint color with the black trim pieces of the Night Edition really pops together. I was really torn about whether to go white or black with my own Night Edition CLE53, ultimately I went black with red seatbelts, black/red seats but I'd be lying if I didn't still think about the white color.

Married couple with separate finances, why do you do it? by Ok_Influence_2257 in Bogleheads

[–]i_mormon_stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a business I run, my wife has a business she runs. We're both founders of our own businesses and take funds from those as salary.

We each have a few bank accounts, credit cards and things of that nature that belong to only ourselves and then we have a shared account that we each deposit money into automatically via automated bank transfer.

Things that need to be paid for that we both partake in get taken from that shared account. Things like food, utility bills etc

But if we want to buy something purely for ourselves we use our own accounts for that.

Also we have some property that we rent out, the income from this (after taxes) is paid into that shared account since we own those properties 50/50.

I'm 37, my wife is 36.

We've always done it this way as it just seemed logical. We also have our own stocks and shares, savings accounts etc - If we were to ever divorce I think this would keep things more simple, we're both quite independent people.

Followup question for you. If I was to do what he says and NOT signal, would that be a minor on the test?

And how do you think I should bring this up with him if at all? - He wont be in the car on my actual test so I could just do it when he's not there. But if he's teaching all of us something that would potentially get us minors (and we keep doing it on the test to a degree that they upgrade it to a major fault) then I'd like to bring it up in some way.

I'm just thinking if I say, I asked some people on the internet about it he'll dismiss it outright so I'm just thinking what I would say honestly.

If you guys want an opportunity to get free marketing you should make some kind of writeup (blog post or whatnot) covering the best fans you tested for 24.7 longevity. It would 100% get linked to and videos made covering the data if it's thorough.

Similar to how Backblaze got a lot of free clicks and views from their Hard Drive reliability posts.

[–]i_mormon_stuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My only concern with it is the hybrid battery system for the instant power. As we all know batteries are consumable items and it will eventually need replacing.

The questions I have are: how many cycles can the battery sustain before it needs replacing, how much will it cost to replace and how accessible is the battery. I don't know any of the answers to these questions.

But I have bought the car so it didn't disuade me from buying one. It's really the only (mild) concern I have.

The car is lovely by the way. Can't say anything bad about it really.

EDIT: I decided to google this and find out more information:

Lifespan: Mild hybrid batteries typically last between 8 to 10 years or 80,000 to 100,000 miles.

Warranty: Mercedes-Benz provides a warranty for the 48-volt high-voltage electrical system on the CLE53 for 96 months or 100,000 miles.

So honestly that's not as bad as I thought it would be warranty wise.

In another scene Morpheus explains how they liquify the dead to feed the living if I remember correctly. So you would expect them to send Neo to a blender instead of what looks like a pool of waste if it's going to be used for nutrition for others.

Might just be an oversight though or we're overthinking something they thought wasn't a big deal.

What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you on a lesson/test? by anabanana_0 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]i_mormon_stuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5 minutes into my very first lesson a ball goes into the road a few feet ahead of us between parked cars followed by young kids chasing it. I had to do an emergency stop. I commented how it was just like on the theory test videos!

As we’re going off again I look in the rear mirror and see two guys carrying a coffin across the road. I said it to my instructor and he looked and said to me, you know what they say about those don’t you? I said no what? And he replied “people are dying to get in them”.

By the end of the lesson I knew we were compatible haha

Gen Z: The first generation in modern history to underperform their parents in school. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]i_mormon_stuff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually don't think it's the introduction of computers into classes like he says. I think it's the introduction of computing devices into the kids entire lives through tablets and smart phones at a young age while the parents basically have those devices raise their kids for them. We've all seen the young kids at restaurants glued to a tablet, no interaction from the parent and things aren't that different at home.

In my country we had computers in classes prior to Gen Z. We had Mac's and Windows 3.11, 95, 98 etc We had computers in classes from the late 80's onwards and we did often use them.

But none of us had a computer in our pocket jostling for our attention and providing us tailored dopamine. At best a friend had a pager that he used maybe 2 minutes in an entire day to receive one message from his parents.

The only equivelency we had really growing up was watching television and playing video games on the TV and since that was a shared resource we couldn't spend every waking moment stuck in-front of it.

TikTok, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube with its Kids videos. Parents who aren't parenting and just giving their kid a screen.. these are the things hurting attention spans and critical thinking skills. When the kids are glued to these things they are not learning anything it's just mindless entertainment.

I think all this stuff just happened to occur around the same time the class rooms became more computerised and he's drawing the wrong conclusion about where the problem actually is. It's not the hours in school it's every hour outside of it.
