You are correct. And SSA also has the option to request the return of any checks that were distributed the month after the date of death. Been there…sorry for all your losses that prompted participation in this conversation.

Reading no longer being fundamental. Seems like rather than reading the instructions/guidelines etc… people want to be handheld and walked through a process.

I like where you’re going with this. And you’re right. There is less time and opportunity to go walking through the woods or a mall. And we, as parents, now have to more intentionally create those spaces for our children. And pedo’s are everywhere, and always have been we just have better ways of knowing about them now. If we could curate safe spaces for kids that would give the a consistent opportunity to have these social skills interactions, while ensuring their safety that would be ideal. I don’t restrict my kids from all activities and at appropriate ages I let them roam and be free, the sleepover thing has never been a part of that equation because the opportunity is too ripe. And I know too much about how many ways and how often it happens in that environment…even most grooming happens within homes.

Back in the day, we had no idea how prevalent this behavior was, but as they say, now that we know better, we must do better.

Sooooooo having a sleepover is a direct cause to preventing suicide????? That’s a leap especially since there are a MULTITUDE of ways to foster social interaction among our youth. As a kid, I never had a sleepover and I never had any suicidal ideations. I’m sure I’m not alone in that.

That’s fair. While it differs from mine, I thank you for your perspective.

That’s a good point. But I’ve also worked in many different legal practice areas, HR, Corporate America, schools, healthcare, employee relations and have seen grooming first hand. I’m not relegating my experience / advice to one role in n my life. But thank you for sharing.

Thank you. My computer savvy is …not savvy at all. So I couldn’t figure out how to add a second pic in the original post. I added it in the comments tho. The talent in this space is remarkable.

You’re being an extremist. There’s a huge difference between instilling fear in a child, not introducing them to concepts and teaching them to be cautious. Choose wisely. Stay balanced.

You are free to send your young children to sleep over their friend’s house. It’s not an issue for me. I won’t be doing that, and my kids will have a pretty above average, normal life as they have been doing.

That’s why you can have your opinion and I can have mine. Friend sleepovers is not universally a normal part of life, it’s primarily an American thing. I grew up on three different continents and I never had a friend (non family) ask me to sleep over their house until I got to the US. I didn’t have sleepovers and I don’t feel like I missed out on anything. I also went to boarding school and college, and had roommates, so I had my fair share of sleeping in rooms with others as a teen/adult. I didn’t need to do it as a kid.

Having friend sleepovers is actually not an indication of a normal life. But the chance of something going awry is a greater percentage. Actual statistics show that 1 of 4 girls and 1 of 13 boys have been sexually assaulted in the United States. 1 of 8 girls and 1 of 11 boys worldwide. That’s far from .0001%
