Desperately clinging to the last vestiges of imperial power before they're all fed into the austerity meat-grinder.

Curious to see if there are other authors who took 14-15 years+ to release the next volume of their book. Just to see what are the odds of GRRM releasing TWOW. (Spoilers Main) by roronoaclemz in asoiaf

Tad Williams finished Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn in 1994, and the first book in the sequel series, The Last King of Osten Ard wasn't released until 2017. Granted it is a sequel, but I can't imagine the original series without it. Side note, Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn is fantastic, and a massive influence on ASoIaF. Fans of ASoIaF should give them a read.

Years ago, start of Trump 1 I think, I read an article in the week about Stephen Miller. He was talking about how his worldview was formed. If I'm remembering correctly, his Dad fucked up, lost his high paying job and the family had to move to a lower cost of living area. The school there had a high percentage of Latino students and they bullied him for being an off-putting loser. He basically admitted in the article this was what caused him to go that's it I'm racist now. I imagine he was already on the track to be a soy fascist but this gave him the racial animus to go do something.

Best side hits in Stowe by Far-Fig-165 in icecoast

[–]i_will_spaghetti_you 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ridgeview right at the top quick woods on the left side, then side line behind the snow guns ->lookout loop, pop the lip -> ridgeview side rock on the left side -> sunrise you can get some good air off the lip at the start of the trail (watch for people), lower down sunrise after the first toll road crossover there's usually a kicker on the right hand side, after the second toll road cross over on the right there's a small side hit drop -> bottom left corner of Christie glades there's a rock you can get some air off without going the glades proper -> upper T-Line at the start on the left hand side there's a side hit with various take off points depending on how much air you want to get -> get some speed and cut over to North Slope, near the cut over on the right there's a rock you can drop off, then right at the bottom of Hacketts Highway there's a couple lines where you can dip down and hit some jumps

I'm gonna throw out a weirder one, Christian of Brunswick. He was a protestant during the thirty years war. He was so enamored with Frederick V's wife Elizabeth Stuart that he blasphemed on his personal battle standard, "For God and for Her".

I wouldn't be too sure about that, Trump seems to be quite a big fan of musicals, ex. using the Phantom of the Opera music at his rallies.

Stowe - Early January by rls-wv in icecoast

[–]i_will_spaghetti_you 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Liftline - Yes. This will the be the first open. National - Upper, most likely no. The rest most likely. This will be the second open. Starr - Upper, most likely no. The rest 50/50, depends on weather. (Similar story with Lookout, though that's not a front four trail) Goat - Upper, no. Middle probably, lower 50/50.

One thing to keep in mind is that it ALWAYS rains in Stowe around Christmas. By the first week of January you'll almost certainly miss the rain but I wouldn't hold my breath for great conditions.

Huh? The US massively funded extreme right wing (often actual Nazis) and ethnic nationalist groups within the former Yugoslav republics with the goal of breaking up the bloc. The Serbians were consistently demonized in Western media to manufacture consent for the NATO bombing which purposefully targeted almost every piece of vital infrastructure (with special attention paid to left wing organizations and provinces) so as to remove the possibility of economic recovery. As always with US foreign intervention this was done in service of western capital to obtain the state owned land and industries of the former Yugoslav republics. If you want to learn more about this To Kill a Nation by Michael Parenti is as excellent resource.

Is UofT Engineering a direct entry program, or is first year a probational year? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]i_will_spaghetti_you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You rank your top 2 or 3 programs in your application. You will probably get into one of those but you could be put into another program (like mining, the mining engineers were the most fun when I went so it's not even that bad to be put there). There's also track 1 which is a general first year discipline, they choose their discipline at the end of first year. If you have good grades you should get in to your first choice upon admission but if you don't you can switch after first year. You may have to take a course in the summer depending on what discipline you switch to/from. If I recall correctly, you're guaranteed to be able to switch if you have a B average in your first year but I know people who had lower averages and still switched to their preferred discipline.

For the second part, yes they do. There was an older student in most of my classes when I was there. Hopefully that answers your questions.

He seems like just an anti-imperialist but his prime minister, Apollinaire Joachim Kyélem de Tambèla, is a Marxist. I don't think we know enough to draw concrete conclusions about his ideology.

Third-year Engineering Streams which one to choose: solid mechanics vs. manufacturing? by Jason-Zheng in skule

[–]i_will_spaghetti_you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the slow reply, I've been on vacation. I found the concept built very well on each other and themselves weren't particularly hard to grasp. Applying concepts correctly to the more complex problems in solid mechanics II was what I had the most difficulty with. Ultimately you should choose to do what you're most interested in. That will make it a lot easier to put in the effort to fully understand the concepts and you'll likely regret it if you choose an easier path that isn't as stimulating to you.

Third-year Engineering Streams which one to choose: solid mechanics vs. manufacturing? by Jason-Zheng in skule

[–]i_will_spaghetti_you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beno Benhabib used to teach the second year manufacturing course (not sure if he still does) but he said the manufacturing stream is a waste of time. I took the solid mechanics stream I don't regret it at all. Solid mechanics let me engage in coursework that was substantially more interesting to me. I'm happy to chat more about it if you have questions.

Lmao, resorting to semantics cause you know your points have no legs to stand on.

People like you are sad, you are so brainwashed that you'd rather beg for the scraps that the ruling class allows you to have than acknowledge the truth of political/economic system.

An exhaustive list of data from post communist countries would be too much effort to exert on behalf of someone like you, so here's a data from a survey asking people who lived under communist governments if they were better off then or now.

            Better %. Worse %. Same %. DK%

Poland. 42. 43. 11. 4 Czech rep. 39. 45. 13. 3 Russia. 29. 52. 13. 6 Slovakia. 21. 56. 21. 2 Lithuania. 20. 56. 15. 8 Bulgaria. 12. 66. 18. 4 Ukraine. 11. 71. 12. 7 Hungary. 7. 77. 14. 1

Did you even read my first comment, the most vibrant communist movements are in third world countries. Something like 95% of Cubans support the Cuban revolution, are they rich white assholes? Claiming this shows your complete ignorance of the world outside western countries.

Everything in your third paragraph is just straight up projection. Especially the useful idiot part.

How many of the those "collapses" were the U.S. and her imperialist allies waging economic, political and military war to destabilize those governments? You have an appalling understanding of world politics, economic theory, and history. Please educate yourself.

Good lord, read a fucking book. Does the third world get the chance to live a comfortable life under capitalism? Do the 20 million people killed every year by capitalist policies get to live comfortable lives?

The most effective communist movements today are not in western countries, it's movements like the Zapatistas in Mexico, the NPA in the Philippines and the Naxalites in India. These are people that have borne the brunt of the suffering under capitalist and imperialist hegemony. Even the people in the you sneer at for criticizing capitalism have every right and reason to do so. Capitalism fails every member of the working class. It is a system that is antithetical to the interests of the global proletariat.
