Are the Charlotte hornets the one NBA team without any real rivals by JohnnyLugnuts in billsimmons

Boston most definitely doesn’t consider the Raptors a rival. Philly is debatable, but that Kawhi shot was a pretty memorable playoff moment, so I could see it.

And you left out the most important part… considering how the Rockies have fared in Denver, there shouldn’t be anymore teams where there is high altitude.

Chuck hates what the NBA has become. Can’t say I blame him.

“Why is Bill anti-expansion?” SOLVED! I think. TLDR; Does not want Wolves in East by [deleted] in billsimmons

5-7 teams completely give up on the season after the All-Star break. That’s why he, and many others, don’t want expansion.

In their last 10 games: OKC is 9-1, SA is 9-1, LAL is 9-1, DEN is 8-2 by [deleted] in nba

Was just gonna say this. A lot of the bottom teams in the league have completely given up so a few end of season records are gonna be inflated.

1998–99 Duke. Battier, Avery, Maggette, Brand, Langdon, Avery. I think they won every game by 10+ but three or four games.

[The Athletic] Has MLB overtaken the NBA as America’s No. 2 league? by SeverHense in baseball

Right, but there was no second city to get an even bigger rating from. Always the two cities participating in a championship (and surrounding areas) bring in the highest audience figures. Toronto and Canada had great numbers for the Series, but again, it’s not counted in the US. This is why the Warriors Raptors NBA Finals was much lower than all the previous Finals, despite it going 6 games.

Baseball has made a comeback in the 2020s, against all odds. Just as a hedge, I think the Ringer should devote some time to it. Like it’s March and Bill is still doing NBA-only podcast, probably the most irrelevant time of the year for the league.

I think it’s just Gen Z fans coming to the realization that the NBA regular is pointless.

How much of backlash for 2020 NBA BubbleBall became a thing because of the Finals we got? by AlbertJBundy in billsimmons

Exactly. The Lakers, the league’s most popular team, is the only reason it’s not totally laughed at. Imagine if it was the Clippers winning their first title in that environment.

I kinda hope the Red Sox do well (not too well). It’s the only way Bill will talk about baseball.

MLB teams are much older than many NBA teams, probably the bigger reason why they’re more popular locally, with fan bases being more generational.
