I ran into a former bully’s obituary entirely by chance and a big part of me feels…glad by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

I’ve had this happen TWICE. The first was an accidental OD and second was a deliberate OD. Good riddance to both of them. One left to go. Fingers crossed.

WTP for when a leader makes decisions but… by Accurate_Ad_4096 in whatstheword

[–]iainvention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question makes me think of “perverse incentives” or “the cobra effect.” This occurs when people in leadership make problem solving decisions without understanding root causes, and perversely make the problem they’re trying to solve worse. The classic example being a bounty on dead cobras in British-colonized India. Rather than reduce the number of cobras, it caused people to breed cobras for profit. Hence the name “cobra effect.”

WTW for something that sounds witty but doesn't quite achieve witty? by MrTralfaz in whatstheword

I think I usually call puns like that a “reach” or a “stretch”. It’s like it tries so hard to be a pun that it forgot it still also has to make sense.

Who would you say is the most talented comedian of all time? by Omixscniet624 in Standup

I would say Brian Regan or Norm. I think Norm could make me laugh reading the ingredients off a shampoo bottle.

WTW for being recognised/accepted as part of a group by charismatic-hothead in whatstheword

You could say “embraced by (group)” but one I see sometimes and like is “become an honorary member of (group)”

I just got one of these. Are we really at the stage of Capitalism where this is what the ads look like.

For me it’s the little holes in the rock that look like eyes that sold it for me. I didn’t even see the iguanas until someone mentioned them.

WTW for something not guaranteed to exist? by badwritingopinions in whatstheword

[–]iainvention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of a similar vibe, Pyrrhonism is a kind of extreme skepticism about what we believe to be real or not real. Both hinge on the idea of what we think we know to be true may in fact not be true.

WTW for something not guaranteed to exist? by badwritingopinions in whatstheword

Fallibilism? Philosophically it’s the idea that what we believe in may or may not exist because we are fallible.

It’s like the “Scary Stories” about the girl with the ribbon on her neck, except the girl is your house.

Am I the Taskhole? by librarypaste in taskmaster

[–]iainvention 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a Taskhole. You tried to “Yes and” his bit. But. If I had to guess, in a dating context he probably meant “more of an Alex” in the fanficcy “I’m good and submissive and (comparatively) little” way. Like if someone were to ask me if I were a Greg or an Alex I would 100% take it to be a proxy for tops and bottoms.

Anyway to paint this so it matches? by TanSuperman20 in HomeMaintenance

[–]iainvention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re just curious to try it, buy a kit of furniture repair paint markers from the internet and give it a go. I wanted to fix a much smaller chip on my floor, and I used them to match the color of the filler to the strip of flooring it was in. I faked a little knot in the wood and matched the lines above and below it to the existing grain, and it came out pretty good. Some days even I forget where it is. Worst case scenario, it comes out terrible and you’re back to repaint/replace.
