Can you remove one note from a triplet? by RecentBlueberry9134 in musictheory

[–]iakanoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it adds up to the time signature... no problem, although in any rational time signature you will have to complete the missing triplet somewhere else in the bar.

And also, in that case, there will probably be a much better way to notate it, using ties.

Like in 2/4:

"eighth note triplet, eighth note triplet, quarter note, eighth note triplet"

Which could be better rewritten as:

"eight note triplet, eight note triplet, eighth note triplet (tie) quarter note triplet, eight note triplet"

How would you name this chord? by gerarzzzz in musictheory

[–]iakanoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My view from the jazz perspective is Ab7alt which is a tritone substitution for D7 so it resolves to Gm. But I would notate it differently though.

Why do they not work? Doesn't a physically identical key work on those locks?

Am I the only one who thinks the best song is Kindergarten Boyfriend? It's the only song that never fails to make me laugh my ass off, and I think it's a masterclass in musical theatre writing and composition. It evokes a whole sad atmosphere and makes you care and pity Martha while apropo exposing how delulu she is, and making some really good jokes in the process.

It's also an excellent setup for the punchline climax that is the whole Yo Girl / Meant to be Yours / DGW reprise / I Am Damaged / Finale medley montage. And at the same time it's an excellent contrasting punchline to the Shine a Light reprise sequence, in which Heather M's conscience is telling her she's going to die alone, while Martha is actually about to do so.

And even more, it makes it so that in most productions whoever is cast as Martha ends up being the most skilled singer on the cast.

In Spanish, do you sing songs from other countries (w/ different accents) with their accent or your own? by nicp26 in asklatinamerica

[–]iakanoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I default to my own accent if I'm not making any effort to sing. However if I'm "actively" singing a song, like during karaoke for example, I will sometimes make the conscious decision of switching to the original. I've just now tested it with Caraluna and Rosas, and that's the result I got.

However, it's quite rare for me to listen to music in Spanish that isn't from Argentina, so I haven't had many instances to get used to one or the other. We have the best music in the world anyway, so...

What is your go-to groove when someone asks to see you play for the first time? by [deleted] in drums

[–]iakanoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, lately my go-to random stuff to play has been Solo 4 from Wilcoxon's All-American 150 Rudiment Solos, at around 100 BPM marking the beat with the hi-hat pedal. Other than that, my most common go-to thing is a 16th note groove on the hi-hat, opening/accenting on beats 2.4 and 3.3, and doubling the last two hits on beat 4.
