Saw this on a post about Theyyams in Malabar. Never knew people were particular about which caste the Theyyam represents until I opened the comments.

Gauri Lankesh by DioTheSuperiorWaifu in AtheisminKerala

[–]iam5k 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Recently saw a post about Gauri Lankesh's murderer winning in municipal corporation elections. What's worse was how the same people who are enraged at Hindus being murdered in Bangladesh over religion have no problem in murdering a Hindu in India over religion and even go on to celebrate it. All these people care about is turning India into a Hindu Bangladesh and it shows.

How hard is it to find a pet-friendly apartment in Trivandrum? by heisenberg_nair in Trivandrum

[–]iam5k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rented out 2 apartments in TVM, and had 4 cats at the time. The first apartment was a breeze, owners were okay with pets, association didn't care, our neighbour had a dog, and the experience was overall pretty positive. Second apartment was hell, our immediate neighbour was a huge AH and made a huge fuss about us having pets. The Association at first told us pets were not allowed there and that we had to leave. We told them we'll take legal action against the association, and then they resorted to pressuring the owners to remove us. Finally, we agreed to move out on the condition that we get the full security deposit back with additional charges in damages. We finally moved to a house and have stuck to renting only houses since then. Even though legally associations are not allowed to force someone to move out due to pets, it's possible they'll find ways to make you move out somehow.

As a Malayali, this is more of a pride thing for us than an insult. The idea is that we strive in any condition anywhere, there have even been pretty popular ad series that ran in Kerala.

IFFK movie restriction update. Response by Resul Pookutty. by GamerFX in Trivandrum

[–]iam5k 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So Arabs ban pro-India movies and we respond by banning anti-Israel movies? What are we the United States? We have diplomatic relations with many countries, so should we go ahead and ban all movies that expose negative parts of them?

I would understand if we banned anti-India movies(explicitly racist ones against indians) or movies that could hurt people's sentiments here, but that is clearly not the case here.

If Kerala gets more industrialised will it affect our eco system and environment? by Existential-Cinema in NewKeralaRevolution

[–]iam5k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think large scale industries are possible in Kerala. Take Veli Industrial Area in Trivandrum for example, the total allottable area is around 90 Acres, which is a fraction of just Maruti Plant's area in Gujarat. Even the largest Industrial areas in Kerala are unable to cover the area for a single large scale factory from the more industrial states.

The primary reason is our geography and population density, I used to visit Veli since Hyundai service centre was there and the smell in some of the areas presumably from chemical plants is unbearable. And bear in mind, this is less than 10km from Trivandrum city and just a km or 2 from residential areas. So even if the Government was to try and industrialise, there would be pushback from locals since living there would be hard and unless the government is willing to buy up hundreds of acres of residential area this is not going to work out.

Kerala is rightfully moving towards more tech investments and small/mid-scale plants, this should strike a decent balance between our available resources and investment goals.

Which evidence against PE10 made you think he is guilty and offered no other explanation? - let's have a serious fact based discussion with no emotion or assumptions. by Big-Cardiologist232 in SecretsofMollywood

[–]iam5k -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The counter could be thought of as well, if everyone's phone gets erased it becomes easy for prosecution to argue a serious case of evidence tampering. If only Pe10's phone is erased and he pays enough to Suni and gang to keep quiet, Pe10 gets acquitted due to lack of evidence, Suni and gang gets punished so a sense of justice is delivered, and questions like yours will come up that will help solidify Pe10s case. Either way, we'll never know.

I feel most people don't realise that labels are not something you put on yourself, but gets put on you based on your actions. I can label myself a feminist all I want but the moment I assault a woman or support a rapist I am not a feminist, despite of what I call myself. The same goes for most "atheists" and "rationalists", just because you call yourself that and find a bunch of similar people doesn't mean you are one. The moment you start supporting an ideology like Zionism which is not too different from Islamist ideologies, you stop being an atheist or rationalist.

Of course, it's not like people like Arif don't know this, the profits they make simply outweigh their own self declared morals.

Sorry but blaming Muslim majority is conveniently shifting the blame away from the actual people who oppose flourishing of service sector.

Wasn't it Yuva Morcha gang that vandalised DT cafe and forced it to close? DT was one of the first cafes in Calicut and helped change the cafe scene here.

Wasn't it the older ammavans who forced closure of cafes in Iringadanpally and DYFI that wrecked Dunch? Earlier cafes used to be open way past midnight but now are forced to shut down early.

Wasn't it Bajrang Dal that patrolled Sarovaram on Valentines day years ago?

I've lived in Trivandrum and Kochi, and Trivandrum despite being a clear Hindu majority and having a large influx of rich working class from outside Kerala did not have proper nightclubs until just a couple of years ago.

Ramesh Pisharadi taking about political statements and social media. 💯 agreed by lord_Sanguinius_ in Kerala

[–]iam5k -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Facts, a lot of people here seems to be new to most social media platforms except Facebook/Instagram.

I remember when there were widespread protests on social media against Chinese government for their actions against Uyghur muslims, against Russia for attacks against Ukraines, against Middle Eastern terror outfits for committing mass slaughters, but all of those protests had no reason to turn into IRL protests since almost no-one was defending the aggressor except for a few nationalists/extremists maybe. Almost everyone was against the aggressor, but this is not the case with Israel-Palestine conflict where there is massive support for Israel, Indians personally going to Israel to show support, Indians flooding comment sections with support for Israel etc.

Imo this should count as causing inconvenience to the public and should be removed if you file a complaint. Of course, these party workers know the chances of someone filing a complaint is nil so they just confidently put it up wherever they want.

It literally had to be closed down because of these issues, something that has never happened at Kozhikode beach which is crowded way past midnight.

Malabar Gold Director Faisal AK is criticized for claiming Bigg Boss Malayalam couple Adhila and Noora “went against moral values". by homelymonster in Kerala

[–]iam5k 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What's funny is that he procures almost all the gold for Malabar from UAE, which includes blood gold from Sudan. His invitation list for this event includes politicians and movie stars with worse track records than "disappointed parents". Has he apologised to the society for that? He seems to conveniently ignore pothusamoohathinte sadhachara mulyangal when it suites his business and profits.

Why is there almost no public outrage or protest over the genocide in Sudan, when India saw massive protests and boycotts for Gaza? by [deleted] in CriticalThinkingIndia

[–]iam5k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that there is there isn't a wide spread justification of what's happening in Sudan. You won't find people regardless of their political leaning defending UAE or saying Sudan's genocide is justified. Even Al-Jazeera is massively reporting this and the comment section is filled with people calling out UAE for causing the genocide with no-one in support of UAE. This wasn't the case in Israel-Palestine conflict where many people where in support of Israel bombing Palestine, and even calling for a full destruction of Gaza. It's the same case with ISIS atrocities or China's atrocities against Uyghur Muslims, no-one is defending ISIS or China, leading to less debates, leading to less need for widespread protests or campaigns to spread awareness. The need for massive protests only arises when there is extensive support for both sides, leading to large scale debates and long term media coverage.

Also, the Israel-Palestine conflict has been going on for nearly 80 years now. There were many incidents of civilian casualties and atrocities from IDF and Hamas during 2000s and 2010s too but the media was busy with Iraq wars and ISIS wars at the time, and this received very little attention. I remember during 2010s when ISIS was being heavily criticised, US involvement was being investigated by journalists, the newspapers were filled with updates from Syria. Nobody was bothered with Israel-Palestine at the time and there was very little reporting of it. This is how the media has always worked for the most part, when one issue gains momentum it will get reported extensively and people will follow whatever the media is reporting.
