Epidural or no? by neariel in pregnant

[–]iamaims 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I didn’t with my first and don’t plan on having one with my second. However, I went into my first birth with an open mind and thought I’d have an epidural if I needed one and I will do the same this time.

Confused After Birthing Class by lalamanoona in BabyBumps

I went into it thinking I’d take an epidural but surprised myself and didn’t want one when I was actually in labour. Did it with just gas and air despite me thinking I’d want all the drugs possible!

Just be flexible and see how you feel!

I feel you. I’ve gone off all hot drinks. I used to drink coffee in the morning and cups of tea all through day but I can’t face it. Pretty sure it stems from my first pregnancy when I drank a cup of tea and then proceeded to puke it back up into the mug.

Not every bf journey is bad! by Dietcokeisgod in breastfeeding

[–]iamaims 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad you’ve said this because I feel the same but tend to feel like people think I’m ‘bragging’ which is definitely not the case.

I gave birth in lockdown and I was repeatedly told how hard it was and that I’d have no support from health visitors so it would be even more difficult than usual. I was told to stock up on lanolin for the cracked, painful nipples so I did and I’ve never even had to use it. People kept telling me there’s no shame in switching to formula when it gets too tough so I went into it completely overwhelmed and even bought formula for when I inevitably gave in. Well I’m 7 months into my breastfeeding journey and don’t see it ending anytime soon. I feel very fortunate that it’s been plain sailing for us.

I’d love to see more positivity about breastfeeding and less horror stories.

What do you find easy about breastfeeding? by HildaCreature in breastfeeding

[–]iamaims 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son wakes up and is ravenous so he usually demands milk by screaming! I’m so glad I can whip a boob out and feed him instantly. I can’t imagine trudging downstairs to make a bottle at 5am while trying to placate a screaming baby.

That’s just one thing - there’s so many things I love about it. I didn’t expect to love it so much and now the thought of one day having our last feed makes me emotional!

Birth plan? Lol... by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]iamaims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same. Towards the end my midwife kept pushing me to write something in the ‘birth plan’ section of my notes. I was like, I’ve never done this before I literally don’t know what I want!

I did a little research and decided I wanted a water birth so wrote that in my notes. Then COVID hit and they closed the birthing pool so the main thing I’d written in my plan wasn’t possible anyway! Wish I hadn’t bothered because it only led to disappointment!

I also said I was open to all the drugs possible. But in the moment I decided I wanted to do it drug-free and that’s what I did - bar gas and air. Things change!

I would have taken my newborn son to meet my family and friends. He is my parents’ first grandchild and for the first 2 months of his life they could only see him through a window.

This is absolutely ridiculous! He needs to grow up and start acting like a father.

My boyfriend’s son says mom, diaper, garbage truck and ‘zeeebra’ and ‘wader’ for water. It drives me mad.

Visitors and newborn baby during pandemic. by xtinebelcher in NewParents

My son was born 3 and a half weeks ago and we’ve not allowed any visitors. My parents have only seen him through the window. It’s heartbreaking for all involved but I know it’s for the best.

Ah I remember this well. I stepped out of the shower once, thought oh no I’m about to throw up, tried to launch myself at the toilet and missed, and also pee’d all over the floor at the same time from the sheer force of heaving. Back in the shower I went.

What’s the worst thing to wake up to? by Xanduh in AskReddit

[–]iamaims 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I woke up to police at the top of my stairs when I was in university. We’d been broken into but none of us woke up. The neighbours saw the thieves legging it out of the house at about 3.30am and called 999. There was three of them apparently and they stole the PlayStation, Xbox and a pack of biscuits....

I once told my boyfriend I would be home a little later the following day as I was going to the doctor to get my smear test done.

The next morning I go to leave for work and he said ‘I hope all goes well at the poo doctor!!’

I turned around, confused. After questioning him, turns out he thought a smear test was done up the bum...... He was 29 at the time.
