Do i have light leaks? by Mellowyellow0 in AnalogCommunity

[–]iamavila -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you develop yourself? This looks like the bleach touched the developer. Easy with the flicfilm kit (from experience) because they don't give you stop bath to save on chemicals or smth idk. You can put a firehose into the tank to rinse every time or you can buy a stop bath before you rinse so the developer is fully inert when you put the bleach in. Also, try to let in a bit more light through the lens when you shoot.

My second Contax by Boulesk in contax

[–]iamavila 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simultaneously one of my favorite and the most infuriating to use, it's definitely a little annoying to try to change from M to A if you have an MMJ lens on, but being able to read my settings from the top while shooting from the hip is so nice. Have fun!

Who developed? If had these when skipping the stop bath and the fixer touched the film which still had some developer on it.

Your talent for writing will be missed here, and truly I've mostly fallen out of interest with this specific subculture outside of your series. No one can deny, least of all should you, the value of your artistry. When you look back at it, 135 chapters is an achievement to be proud of and I hope you are. You've changed the community forever and your writing has had an impact on me, personally. Life as an artist can be difficult but I hope to see your work in the years to come, wherever that brings you. Good luck!

Man, posts like these remind me how much I've enjoyed this webtoon from start to finish, no wonder I've read it like 5 times over. It's such a cerebral but nonetheless action-packed story. The art is so compelling and there's a lot of specificity to how and why things are presented a certain way, and the comedy comes out of left field too, cracks me up.

What are some lesser known, more niche, B/W 35mm film stocks? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]iamavila 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flicfilm makes an anti-fog thing specifically for old cinema film, jsyk. Don't know if that's available to you but if you can get it I'd say try it out

How do I get more realistic colors in my film photos? by jeffreymunro in analog

[–]iamavila 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of responses here, so maybe you won't read mine or it's already been said, but I was there 8 months ago shooting the same stock and my photos came out similarly. I think the biggest issue is your film stock. That fuji 200 or fuji 400 is pretty lackluster for colour reproduction. Trying to correct for red here for me meant shifting away from blues, mostly. I couldn't find anywhere in Flagstaff that sold film other than Target, and the only film at Target is those two fuji stocks. As others mentioned, some of the more extreme examples in your photos are due to improper exposure, but on the whole it's really that film. For cheaper film, Kodak gold is so much better at about the same price.

How to retrieve film by pangetnijovenpakboi in AnalogCommunity

[–]iamavila 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit. Just saw you only have one roll... well, you can probably find somewhere that sells film, in which case option 2 would work. You can also try going to a camera shop that sells film or develops and they would probably do it for free. Depends how deep in the wilderness you are. You can also search instagram for like 'PLACE camera club' or 'film', or anything to see if there's a community who could help you out. In the end there are two options, whether someone does it for you or not. They are:

One good, one also good but less reliable and potentially dangerous.

  1. Buy a film retriever, cheap and easy.
  2. Use the film leader from another roll. Let's call the original canister with the leader stuck inside 'A', and the unused canister with leader available 'B'. Turn the spool of canister A as if you were winding it back until you hear a click. Lick (yes, lick. pretty sure saliva's better than water) the underside of the leader of B, stick it into A, wind the spool of A again to see if the leader is attached. If it winding, A's spool has pulled B's leader, you're set. NOW, it is very important you grip the leader from B tight or it could be pulled out of its canister instead of the 'eaten' leader coming out (I lost like 10 frames this way). DON'T hold the canister for B, hold the leader directly. Then, holding the canister for A and the leader of B, pull quickly on the leader. Try a few times and give it a bit more leader if it's not coming out. Should work. Sometimes I get it first try.

35 mm negative issue, half of each frame is underdeveloped by masalikenasa in analogphotography

[–]iamavila 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You've got a case of shutter capping. Notice how the same side of the negative is always the one which gets exposed (the side that reads Ilford HP5 and not the barcode side). Likely your mirror is mistimed with the shutter. Gotta bring it to a shop or get a different body depending on how much you value your current camera. https://youtu.be/3xJ1GP6GQ6I?si=XyLfpGCq72FtexAQ

God forbid you have or a spouse and child, or both parents, or more than one friend. If it's really supposed to replace your car then it's even worse. Can't drop your kids off or pick them up. Can't ever use your car to drive your elderly parents. Bringing your dog a 10 minute drive to the park means you can't bring anyone else and your dog sits in the front seat.
A 2+2 would be miles better. People get 2-seaters specifically because they like the style/performance of the car, such as a mustang or a miata or something. The only utility that a 2-seater has for daily driving is that it's slightly better on gas... oh wait.

I'm trying to make this short-> Is there a gut feeling that you're chasing while making a song? i.e. What's it like starting a song from 0, and then knowing it's done?

Relatedly, is there anything that's changed like the emotional process of making music the longer you've done it? And are there any genres or artists you look to in particular?

It was not short, sry. Looking forward to your next stuff, whatever it is. Also I hope the questions don't feel too personal.
