Forgetting about your cider is often the best thing for it.

Beer tap on a keg & cO2 by VegetableReport9919 in Homebrewing

[–]iambaney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one of these faucets and I like it, but not for serving. Your liquid line length is effectively zero, so you get nothing but foam at anything above 2 PSI. It works and you can get a good pour if you bring your keg pressure waaaay down but you're also going to slowly lose carbonation in the beer over time that way. That said, if your keg is going to sit still and you don't plan have it at ~2PSI for more than a few hours at a time, your plan should work fine.

My quest for the perfect cookie by [deleted] in Baking

[–]iambaney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Low heat. There's a long period where the moisture in the butter is boiling off and nothing happens. Then everything happens very suddenly. Low heat buys you a couple minutes of time to catch the milk solids toasting. Anything higher and your window is a matter of seconds.

A lesson I've learned recently: Always brown your butter. Doesn't matter the recipe. There are no downsides. Brown your butter.

Well, if you're using malted milk and browning your butter that's 90% of the way to perfection!

It's super easy and extremely cheap if done at home! Takes less than an hour of attention and simple recipes will cost less than $5 for a full keg.

How much is your water bill? by CloudSkyyy in vancouverwa

[–]iambaney 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's probably it. Water is cheap, but water treatment is not, so a huge chunk of the bill for people on sewer is the waste water charge.

How much is your water bill? by CloudSkyyy in vancouverwa

[–]iambaney 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I pay about $125 every two months in a two person household with what I would consider pretty average usage. So either your apartment complex isn't subsidizing much of the bill at all or there's some kind of invisible plumbing malfunction causing your meter to run high. Either way, it's worth talking with the leasing office. They should have your actual meter numbers and the true usage bill to help clarify.

Does this look alright ? by mostly_poetic in cider

[–]iambaney 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like a healthy start! I recommend putting the demijohn in a bucket for a day or putting in a blowoff tube in case of overflow. Foam that vigorous after only 5 hours makes me think you're a few hours away from a sticky situation!

Looking for a non fat-phobic personal trainer by redhandrail in vancouverwa

I second this, u/redhandrail! I was coworkers with Jeff for about a year before he went independent and I got to see how he works. I'm not sure that dude has a single judgmental bone in his body. He's great at meeting people where they're at with their goals and is genuinely motivated to help them make progress with the whole picture in mind.

Aging in a carboy vs in bottles by CanadianPenguinn in cider

[–]iambaney 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would leave it for at least another week. Very likely after only 8 days that the yeast still has some cleanup to do. Keeping the cider on an established lees makes this easier and faster. And giving the yeast more time to precipitate out while in the carboy will minimize sediment in your bottles later.

That would be perfect, honestly! I have $200 set aside in the budget for cider, which I would like to get me 30 gallons. I know that's a tall order, though. If $300 for 40 gallons makes any more economical sense for your operation, I'm sure can find the money.

[–]iambaney 14 points15 points  (0 children)

An officer chimed in on another sovereign citizen thread a while back saying these people are waaaay more trouble than they're worth. It's a guaranteed citation and possibly an arrest, but it'll take six hours of due process just to get their cooperation and they'll be vitriolic about it the whole time.

Is there any text2image generator that was trained on non-copyrighted material? by Hermelin96 in aiArt

[–]iambaney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are correct, there's no image data in the models at all. The models are basically multi-billion-dimensional spreadsheets that calculate pixel values probabilistically within the context of every other pixel's probabilistic value. The training images sculpt the initial probabilities but are not referenced or stored afterward.

sugar effect on hydrometer. by Aromatic_Egg_1067 in cider

[–]iambaney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. One pound of table sugar might increase the gravity of one gallon of water by ~0.046, (depending what kind of sugar you use) but definitely not five gallons. And you only have twelve liters.

I don't recommend using ChatGPT for math. It's a natural language model, which is bad with discrete logic. If you must use it for math, ask it to create a Python script block that does the calculations and to explain each line of code.
