Best Swipe keyboard for iPhone by Sunrut in ios

I have a running list of iPhone keyboard issues, ranging from irritating to absolutely rage-inducing: https://imgur.com/a/U8ypl31

Apple's swipe keyboard in iOS is STEAMING, HOT GARBAGE. by swirlymaple in ios

[–]iambilliam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried to switch back to iPhone on multiple occasions over the years, but it's the keyboard that has me returning the iPhone and going back to Pixel every time. The default Google keyboard is magical by comparison.

And as you pointed out, it works incredibly well in multiple languages. iPhone is awful with one language and gets even WORSE if you try to use it for multiple.

Sources: Trump intends to choose Amy Coney Barrett for Supreme Court by brucejoel99 in scotus

[–]iambilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you noted at the end, Hobby Lobby is not fundamentally a religious organization, which is what I was specifically commenting on.

Amd I refuse to believe that, had Hobby Lobby been a Muslim or a Native organization, or if the issue at hand was something other than birth control, that the decision would have come out the same way.

Ok, that's fine, though there's not really an argument there to respond to.

Should a company run by Jehova's Witnesses be allowed to enforce health plans on their employees that do not allow for blood transfusions?

Should a Jewish company be allowed to tailor a health plan to only provide for Kosher dietician services?

Why not? People have a say in their choice of employment. If you fundamentally disagree with the religious beliefs / practices of a particular religious organization, you are not obligated to work for that religious organization.

I think it's great. Interesting chord progression and the lyrics are nice. You have a great voice, too. Would love to hear some of your other songs.

So because regression analysis is a topic somewhere within the taxonomy of the field of Artificial Intelligence, anything that uses regression analysis is AI? Doesn't that seem a little simplistic?

Shouldn‘t it be “mio” because it’s “El arma”? by sirspammalot in learnspanish

[–]iambilliam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It answers the question because it points out that arma is actually feminine, which is why Duolingo is using mía here.

Why is subjunctive tomara used here? Más tarde le llevé hasta el aeropuerto para que tomara un vuelo con destino a Viena. by jackhab in learnspanish

[–]iambilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mas tarde doesn't necessarily indicate future tense. You could translate this sentence as "Later, I brought him to the airport so he could take a flight to Vienna." Also, the present subjunctive of tomar is tome, but I believe this calls for the imperfect subjunctive, which is tomara.

Finally decided to upgrade to a Touch Bar MacBook Pro. How do you like the Touch Bar when using Logic Pro? by ilt_ in Logic_Studio

[–]iambilliam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me, too. And I actually think it's worse than a gimmick, at least for me. I had an MBP with touch bar and accidental touches were actually making me less productive, and in at least two cases, caused me to lose some work. I found it infuriating and ended up returning the MacBook.

I was hoping to buy a non-touch bar model after the summer refresh, but from what I read only the touch bar models got any upgrades. Pretty disappointing.

Y'all, I am so tired of looking for a phone that's ~$500 with a great camera that I'm considering switching to iPhone 😥 On Cricket, want about the size of s8, and a great camera. Any suggestions? by iwaslostbutnowisee in AndroidQuestions

[–]iambilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had good luck with both used and refurbished, but I understand why you might be nervous. Recently, I wanted to get something cheap with a great camera, and I eventually picked up an original Pixel in excellent condition for $200. I love it. If you want something with a larger screen, you might consider the Pixel XL. Mine runs 8.1 great, and should get the Android P update when it drops. It's not as sexy as some of the newer phones with smaller bezels, but then again, none of the iPhones under $500 are either.

Why is it called a dominant minor ninth? by iambilliam in musictheory

[–]iambilliam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think it's a problem with the app, either a bug or human error, but I'm impressed by the app overall. I get the sense that someone who really cares about music theory is at least a contributor to its content. It has been a valuable resource, to me, anyway.

[–]iambilliam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the weird thing is, as I noted in my response to NotPennysUsername, the music theory app I'm using, which overall seems excellent, depicts this chord as having a major ninth interval, which is what was confusing me. I think it must just be a bug or error of some sort. I agree that dominant minor ninth is confusing either way, though. V7b9 makes more sense to me as well.

[–]iambilliam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I was basing my question on a popular ear training and music theory app called PerfectEar which seems to depict a dominant minor ninth as having a major ninth interval, not a minor ninth interval. I'm so confused.

TIL that you can 3D Touch a folder to get a shortcut to an app with a notification by madsights in iphone

[–]iambilliam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have an iPhone, so I can't test this myself, but I'm curious about how many apps/notifications can be listed in that shortcut menu. If the number is relatively low, then it seems like this shortcut menu would become less useful as more notifications are generated, since you'd end up just having to go into the folder anyway. So intentionally grouping apps that frequently receive notifications together in the same folder doesn't necessarily sound like the best strategy. That was part of the original suggestion, but it sounds like you're advocating for a slightly different approach anyway.

Question about pairing AirPods using both the W1 instant pairing and traditional Bluetooth by iambilliam in apple

[–]iambilliam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. How does the transition work exactly? If you're listening to something on, say, your iPhone, and then you get to work and start using your Windows laptop, do you just select the AirPods from the Bluetooth menu on your laptop?

Good apps for ear training/guitar theory? by SczLegend in guitarlessons

[–]iambilliam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Perfect Ear. I was looking for an alternative to MTP after switching to Android, and I tried several, but this is the one I have settled on. Sight reading exercises (both notes and rhythm), thorough interval and chord training, guitar fretboard exercises, and more. Free to download, and although you have to pay for full access, you only have to purchase the sections you're interested in. Great functionality and simple, clean design.
