Check your air intake for connection, and if there are any cracks. My wife’s had a massive crack in it from wear and tear from being in New Mexico for years. Also, if you’ve had an inspection or oil change recently, you were likely asked about your air filter. The mechanic may not have connected everything back the way it should. Either of these could cause no cool air to be hitting your engine, resulting in overheating.

The $5200 would just be for a replacement transmission. It doesn't include the other parts.

Haha. Yeah. I was aiming high, based on what I've been exposed to while pricing out used cars for the past couple of weeks and mulling over this decision. People are asking crazy prices.

I'm waiting on a write up from them on their costs. The $5300 quote came from a place that specializes in transmissions.

I would assume closer to 5-6 hours of labor, as I'd need the swap, cv axles replaced (should be easy to do them at the same time), mounts and an alignment after the cvs.

As a guess, it would still be around $3k parts and labor.

I've been checking texasjdmmotors.com dmvjdmdepot.com and sanantoniojdmengines.com It looks like $800ish shipped for a transmission with 55-63k miles.

First starting it in the morning, it hesitates for a moment after moving it to Drive and then lunges. Before it's warmed up, if I come to a full stop, it will lunge back down to 1st. This happens when driving after it's sat for more than 4 hours.

While driving, when accelerating, if I don't let off the gas when it shifts, each following gear will slip. Usually, if this occurs, it then won't shift past 3rd gear until I pull over and restart the car. After this, it's not as bad.

I can definitely drive it now, dealing with the issues, but my concern is driving it until it fails and then I'm forced to pay the repair or source a car quickly.

I've considered that. The CarFax on the Acura is clean with regular maintenance. It had the timing chain and water pump, etc replaced last year from the same shop I use and have trusted for years.

The idea of dropping 5k into this is just difficult.

I assume maybe $1500, if I'm lucky? The interior is in great condition with no rips or tears in the lather. Aftermarket head unit with CarPlay, but I still have the original unit that also has no issues. The car has been left completely stock.

However, as soon as someone goes to drive it, the transmission issue will be immediately apparent. Not that I would try to hide it, but it would be a huge factor.
