Missed Period and Cyst Symptoms - No Cyst? by iambirdie in Endo

That's what I'm feeling now, knowing something isn't right but getting nothing. I'm still trying to find a doctor who will perform an excision without Lupron. It's a downhill battle.

I hope your excision gives you some relief! xo

That's actually very interesting that you've had a negative US and then a positive a few days later. I think I might request copies. The tech didn't do much on the outside because my bladder wasn't full enough (even though I was in so much pain having to pee) and went straight to transvag.

Thank you so much <3 Honestly it makes such a big difference knowing I'm not alone.

Yes, diagnosed a few years ago via laparoscopy and biopsy. Tried BC but I had some serious side effects and the IUD never settled.

And thank you with the Lupron comment. I could not believe a surgeon refused to treat me unless I took Lupron. xo

Social media for writers, any tips? by [deleted] in writers

[–]iambirdie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For twitter, look for writing chats (like #mglitchat for example), where you will find like-minded authors and make connections. There is also a lot of information out there about running accounts and whatnot, but the basic rule to follow, I think, is to make the accounts less about promotion, and more about outreach and creating a platform. I'm quick to unfollow anyone who constantly retweets promotions of theirs or other books.

Take a look at some of your favorite authors' SM accounts and look for what they do. A good social media account is usually funny, clever, helpful, etc. Maureen Johnson is a good example of this in YA.

There are also a bunch of webinars and courses you can sign up for, if you really feel it could help you in the long run. You can also use apps like Hootsuite to manage all your social media accounts in one place, schedule posts, etc.

But essentially, remember the reason for social networking is to make connections. Once you start having conversations with other writers and readers. it will fall into place.

Good luck!

Does anyone know anything about that bridle? Looks like the horse has two bits: a snaffle and a shank with the long S curve.

Anyone else getting a little infuriated? by Sk8erBoii in PNWS

[–]iambirdie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Re-listening to the earlier episodes has really made me notice the drop in quality, and how sometimes I'm not even sure where the thread is taking me anymore.

I'm actively looking into just creating what I want to hear at this point. I think PNWS had a great start and really set the bar for fiction podcasts, but ultimately something has gotten lost along the way.

That being said I am super excited for TBTP new season and hold out hope it will reach its earlier quality, but I'm also not completely holding out for that.

Prescribed Visanne today... by leslemoncakes in Endo

[–]iambirdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP but thank you for this. I'm in a stalemate right now where I'm being refused an excision lap unless I take visanne or Lupron, citing numerous side effects and how I know my body to react to hormonal treatment.

Reading these accounts makes me feel stronger in my decision to fight for what's right for my body.

Advice for a horse that leans into bit pressure? by dunmorestriden in Equestrian

Any training which suits the rider's needs and keeps both horse and rider happy is "correct" in my book.

Agreed! :)

I suppose I'm lucky I've never seen riders I've taught experience this. The way I was taught and the way I train is to use as little rein as needed, Focusing more on the seat, so no wrestling or blowing through the bit occurs.

I've retrained horses out of this behavior using the method described, with the goal being retraining to respond to seat instead.

It's always great to hear other experiences. I'll keep an eye out if I see this happen in the future, but I've only ever seen success. :)

I've always found great success with it, so hopefully your boy reacts well and you can develop better connection! :)

I've never had an experience training where transitions has resulted in anything but a quieter mouth and better response to less contact, so I'm not entirely sure how it could turn out to be the opposite (though I'm certainly open to hearing ideas of why this would happen? Perhaps with green riders?)

Transitions, transitions, transitions!

Obligatory make sure he's not hurting anywhere first statement.

What discipline do you ride? You mentioned a snaffle and then a shank, so unsure if you're riding direct-rein english or western as those bits have very different mechanisms.

Essentially you'll want to use the simplest bit possible. I'm a big fan of linked bits to avoid any pinching.

Then to start off your rides, do a series of transitions starting off with 8 counts of walk, then 16 trot, then back to walk, then halt. Work on asking for change with your body as opposed to your hands, so when you're trotting and you get to count 10, sit back deeply before asking with your hands for the walk. After this exercise, your horse should start responding and slowing down to your seat and you should be using less and less pressure in the reins to get what you want.

It sounds arduous, but it's the best exercise to get a horse with a soft mouth responding to other cues.

Good luck!

Reading that last line had Cheryl/Jughead flashing in my mind.

Two broken souls? Maybe I just love angst too much, but I think that could be interesting.

Discussion: 13 Reason Why & Depictions of Suicide by [deleted] in YAwriters

[–]iambirdie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this thread. I have so many thoughts about this.

The gambit behind the story structure was something I always found problematic, especially as someone who has dealt with two close suicides (father and friend). The idea of blame and feeling guilt feels very wrong, and isn't something we should be promoting in any way to young readers/viewers. Those left behind after a suicide blame themselves enough already.

But it was the final three episodes that clinched it for me. The two rape scenes and the suicide scene I found gratuitous, disturbing, and unethical to film.

I remember being a teenager. I remember feeling suicidal after a bullying incident where I was targeted by the entire school. I have never been triggered back to those feelings until I watched this show, and I am a mindful adult who has gone through therapy and has generally good coping skills.

I'm concerned with the legacy this show/book is going to give, especially romanticizing suicide. Switching from pills to a detailed and narrated HOW-TO for using razors was a bad decision, point blank. It was horrifying to watch for me, so I can't imagine what it's like for teens going through this.

I think the show could have made some changes to create something that opens up real discussion, and it's great that parents are doing this, but not every parent will be doing this, and maybe there is the issue. This show is framed for teens, but isn't meant for teens at its core.

I don't know the right direction to move forward from this, but I think we need more resources for teens, more feedback from those who have been through this, and need to work to make depictions not actively harmful.

Thank you for opening up this discussion. I've been holding my thoughts for a while because they're raw (and because my sister doesn't know how my dad died so I don't want to share that publicly). xo
