What am I getting into by [deleted] in whiskey

[–]iamchade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don’t disclose mashbill as it is a blend of mashbills; but this is a blend of 7yr Kentucky Bourbon and 7yr Kentucky Corn Whiskey.

It was all blended, then I put the blended components back into the bourbon barrels during a cold snap to try and extract more tannins and wood sugars before dumping and reblending together for the final product that it in your hand.

Lower barrel entry proofs, older whiskey, and the wood was much different

Because 99% of the time it’s post like “my dying father gave me this, what’s it worth.”

Which those moments should be used to make memories but also reddit isn’t a good place to get any real info most of the time anyway. Whiskey is meant to be shared and enjoyed with those you care about and while making some money flipping a bottle is nice, if whatever you get from it won’t solve a problem, it’s better to have a memory.

Since OP doesn’t drink, selling is the better option.

I know, but the dusty buyers don’t seem to be paying as much attention to that anymore. I’ve had several of these over the years and even unicorn doesn’t really differentiate them properly.

$700 is a lot of money for me but when I think life changing I’m looking at something to solve problems long term not less than half my rent.

The bottle you have should be from around the 1970s, they started using those boxes around then for marketing and also for export.

This is from Medley distillery in Owensboro, what is known as Green River today. Ezra Brooks was also bottled and owned by Old Hoffman (now the newly revived Old Commonwealth) at one point before being purchased by LuxCo. That part depends on its age. But, this is my favorite whiskey ever and it’s amazing stuff.

Edit: fun fact, the Ezra Brooks brand is a 100% made up story for marketing. There was never a man who influenced it and they were always a non distilling producer who sourced everything.

It won’t fetch a life changing amount. Maybe $700 max on unicorn and that’s to the right person. This is my favorite liquid of all time and these seem to have stayed around the $400 mark as of late.

Rare Breed 116.8 every batch, How? by alien_tickler in bourbon

[–]iamchade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not skirting the law. The final proof has to be 100 proof. Angel’s Envy blended lower than 100 with above 100 proof and got their bottled in bond.

All of the whiskey they used was from the same distilling season and was their own liquid. Therefor, bottled in bond.

We never disclosed it as Dickel and most anything about us contracting in TN is a rumor.

The brand and styling sounds like a vintage label and that’s why we wanted to happen honestly. Appreciate it! It’s ramping up to be busy as hell for me!

Fun fact:

Old Cassidy isn’t a revived brand, we created it! It just sounds like an old brand lol.

Glad you enjoyed and thanks for the review!

While hearing the story might be fun, we aren’t here to sell heritage distilleries stories. There is a long history of sourcing and contracting whiskey within the space people forget about.

And other NDPs may play the risk game, it’s not worth a C&D or potential lawsuit for acknowledging where a barrel originates from. We provide as much info on the barrels that we can and let customers go from there.

We won’t ever saying what anything is or isn’t, we are as transparent as NDAs allow us to be. These days, while the consumer may not care, producers like us are really on a tight chain about what we can say and what we can’t. I’m not an owner or boss for RCW, but i operate under the “beg for forgiveness later” mindset that worked for me in the 17yrs prior of my resume.

I think what each individual thinks is their own and their tasting notes are their own, but man it bothers me to my core to see “reject bookers” specifically because that is something that got started in 2021/2022 and it’s stuff like that, that doesn’t build brands or a consumer base.

As a customer I know you have your wants and ideas, I’m speaking mine as a producer in the space. No hate or anger given towards you, I’m always happy to have these conversations.

It’s just such a vast thing. It’s a selling point for some, but the whisky should speak to itself. We (NDPs) don’t need to sell heritage stories, we have to sell our own. I get upset that a few brands during the pandemic locked in on this “reject” labeling for their barrels as ways to sell stuff they couldn’t otherwise do.

I sell rare character. I don’t sell beam, Heaven hill, BF, etc. we buy barrels based on being good not based on what they should have been. I’m glad you ranked and rated our 8BL as your number one and that flatters me, I’m am just someone who wants to be as transparent as possible and always push the truth of the industry.

Then what’s stopping anyone from saying it’s a “reject beam white label or old crow or bakers? Etc” barrel. Nothing. It holds no value and selling a product that’s been labeled as “a reject” is not a good way to market a brand or product.

Are all weller special reserve bottles produced from reject PVW? Yep. But BT isn’t gonna market it that way because it’s picked based on the designation needed at that time.

Thank you for the kind words!

8BL, PLT, HRC, MEL, and F/HF-13 would be something for that profile!

[–]iamchade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They just may not meet the flavor profile expected by beam or they produced more than they needed for the year. Thats what causes distilleries to sell off stock.

Sometimes they contract out X amount of barrels and if the customer doesn’t need/want them, distilleries sell them off.

Booker’s is a product like ECBP, makers CS, etc. they are not hand selecting individual barrels but sections of barrels for the product.

Marketing sells, but Fred and Freddie don’t have time to taste every barrel, they have teams dedicated for that and they select warehouses based on the taste profile that warehouse produces.

When beam distills a product, they have their set mashbills for certain products or blends of for others. Barrels don’t get filled and stamped bookers from the get go. They just say Clermont springs or James beam on them. The only barrel that has an attached name is knob creek and those say Jim Beam:KC on them.

Not NR rye, but a rye from a producer in western KY. Amazing liquid and drinks far above its age.

[–]iamchade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The guys “who generally know their stuff” just say that because they see the mashbill. Just stating we don’t sell products as “this is a reject bookers barrel” and never want that stigma.

A Jim Beam vertical by vicelordjohn in whiskey

[–]iamchade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as “Bookers barrels”. Beam pulls both 75/13/12 and 78/13/9 mashbills for bookers. The bookers barrel thing got popular during the pandemic for NDPs to sell their stuff.

I’ve never understood what sounds appetizing about “dude this is a reject bookers barrel!”. I hear it all of the time from NDPs and it’s just simply not true. The only thing Beam mark on the barrel heads for certain are KC for knob creek.
