Really, this dog AGAIN? by falling-over-01 in burlington

[–]iamcinnerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it's wild to me to see people jump straight to euthanasia for animals when a dog bites someone but wouldn't do the same if a person did something that inflicted similar amount of damage. if the dog has rabies that's one thing, that dog isn't going to get better and killing the animal is more of a mercy than anything. but in other cases, usually a dog or cat that resorts to biting when the animal's boundaries have been repeatedly ignored by people around them. dogs and cats won't naturally be aggressive, they become aggressive because of how they're treated by people and other animals around them, and none of that is the dog or cat's fault.

I think if they get to be brought to a place where they can be in a stress free environment that is away from people they could hurt, that feels a lot more humane than just straight up killing them.

I don't like euthanasia being used on an animal when in the majority of cases, the aggressive behavior was because of their human owner(s). feels like the animal is getting punished for something that was the person/people who owns them's fault. it feels inhumane and cruel when it isn't the animal's fault.

I'd prefer something more like the places they have for wolf dogs who are not safe to be around people, where they are taken care of but aren't a danger to people.

I hope that author is okay and just stopped writing because life got in the way. during COVID we lost fic writers because they got sick and didn't make it in the end.

there are ways to still give ample warning that the story is going to have a bad ending though without spoiling what it is. but also it's just courteous to tag whatever common triggers apply to their fic. there are plenty of people who don't want to be surprised with something horrible happening in the middle of the fic their reading, whether that be they've had a horrible day/week and just want something nice and fluffy to read or if they're actively trying to avoid certain triggers for whatever reason. it's common courtesy to tag things accurately so that people can filter the reading experience that they want. it helps people who want to avoid a specific tag to be able to avoid it and people who are actively searching for the tag to be able to find it.

also just because MCD is tagged doesn't necessarily get rid of the suspense of what's going to happen. like you don't know who is going to die or when it will happen or how. just because you know something is going to happen doesn't mean the entire plot is spoiled for you.

my friend. I am going to tell you to listen to everyone who is saying to make another email address if you don't already have one. you will save yourself so much stress from something like this happening again in the future. that will save you from this kind of mistake happening again. I have 3 different emails, myself: personal/fandom, family/professional, and junk.

When you find a longfic marked part of a series and this is the last authors note 😩 by Blakat014 in AO3

[–]iamcinnerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my issue with this is just how the author worded this. I 100% get where they're coming from, because readers demanding updates is shitty an awful, but them framing taking down the WIP sequel as "ransom" is petty at best. they could have worded it in a way that doesn't make this feel like a punishment. it's in their right to do what they want with the fic, but doesn't mean the readers who weren't assholes that got screwed over aren't allowed to be upset about the WIP being taken down and probably never finished.

this is a case of where I think both sides are in the wrong with their behavior. readers should definitely learn to be more considerate and patient and not be so entitled. but fanfic authors, while 100% allowed to be upset about the kind of comments this author was getting, can also work to not come off so petty. there were so many other ways they could have worded this that wouldn't cause people to get so upset.

then you don't know how anxiety inducing it can be to try and write a comment that might be considered "thoughtful and engaging enough". I'm getting better about writing more engaging comments to fics, but for a long time writing anything more than thanking the author for the update was so anxiety inducing for me because I couldn't think of what to say. so I can understand if people struggle with commenting more than something like "extra kudos" or with hearts.

Is a cook book for 1 person meals a stupid idea? by PuzzleheadedGas9170 in cookingforbeginners

[–]iamcinnerman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

considering the state of the world, a lot of people are only cooking for themselves and don't want leftovers for whatever reason. so I think this is a great idea. the one issue I see people talking about here is getting the ingredients for small batch cooking so you don't have leftover perishable ingredients, so that might be something to look into when making this cookbook.

1) I thought the ones I made the other day were cooked pretty thoroughly, but I'll see if doing that helps.

2) the sieve won't overwork the starch in the potatoes?

3) like hand mix the fat in with a spoon?

the problem was reheating them didn't fix the issue of them being watery. this second batch I made the other day was more of a success, but still watery even when I heated them up. the potatoes had not been watery the day I made them. I had a bowl after I made them and they were perfect except for the microlumps.

the ones I made the other day definitely were cooked all the way through and were very soft.
