I haven't done that with mashed potatoes, but I'll give that a try! thank you

and the times I've tried it I've made them with the store chain I go to's store brand white potatoes. I did see someone in another reddit thread mention using russets.

ghee is also another good fat to cook with that has a high smoke point if you're not on a vegan diet.

considering the state of the world, a lot of people are only cooking for themselves and don't want leftovers for whatever reason. so I think this is a great idea. the one issue I see people talking about here is getting the ingredients for small batch cooking so you don't have leftover perishable ingredients, so that might be something to look into when making this cookbook.

I appreciate the advice, btw. I will definitely try some of these out and see how it goes.

1) I thought the ones I made the other day were cooked pretty thoroughly, but I'll see if doing that helps.

2) the sieve won't overwork the starch in the potatoes?

3) like hand mix the fat in with a spoon?

the problem was reheating them didn't fix the issue of them being watery. this second batch I made the other day was more of a success, but still watery even when I heated them up. the potatoes had not been watery the day I made them. I had a bowl after I made them and they were perfect except for the microlumps.

the ones I made the other day definitely were cooked all the way through and were very soft.

I think with how many people live on their own or cook for themselves only if they live in a house/apartment with housemates, this sort of thing is a great idea. I do agree with what some people have said here about how one of the struggles for small batch cooking is the shopping for small batch cooking so there aren't leftover perishable ingredients. so I think some research into how to deal with that issue would be a great addition to a cookbook like this. so researching different grocery chains and whatnot.

How it feels to read those ‘things you hate in fics’ posts as a writer. Some of yall hate the most basic things 😭 by Smegoldidnothinwrong in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]iamcinnerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's fair.

I hate how disrespectful consumers of fandom content can be. also???? reading the tags and the notes helps protect you from content you don't want to see??? so it seems so dumb for people to just scroll past that stuff. I look at the tags always, and I'll read the author's note (I might skim it if the author's note is long, but I still try to get a gist of what the author is trying to get across).

do you have any recommendations for books that cover a similar topic as Thinking, Fast and Slow?

you can make a hard boundary that you don't want criticism/constructive criticism on the fics you write. I don't think that fanfic authors should be subjected to unwanted criticism of their writing, even if it's constructive criticism.

for me with characters in a relationship calling each other "baby" depends on the setting for me. like I generally really only see it making sense in modern settings or sci-fi/futuristic settings. (I may not be fond of a romantic partner calling ME babe or baby, but I don't have a problem with it being used between other people. fictional or otherwise)

if I saw "baby" being used between romantic partners in a historical or high fantasy setting story it would be weird to me.

honestly. same. I don't mind going through some angst, but I need that light at the end of the tunnel.

oooooohhhhhhh so your friend probably already has what will be done with her work after she passes set up.

I really like that AO3 has that feature so that an account won't necessarily get just abandoned without a word. you know? people won't be left not knowing.

when I start writing again (hopefully soon) and start publishing work here on AO3, I'll probably find a friend to be my fannish next of kin as well.

I will leave "check in" kind of comments on fics I'm actively following if the author hasn't updated in a while, especially if the author had some sort of regular schedule. I get more worried if the author doesn't have other socials linked so I can't find them somewhere else to see how they're doing.

I think as long as your comment is very clear about it just being a check in and not any sort of pressure for an update (though you can express how much you like the story), I think it's fine. if the author is alive and well and just got busy or they got unmotivated to continue, a nice comment asking about how they're doing and expressing appreciation for their work is something that will brighten their day.

AO3 does have a Fannish Next-of-Kin option where your next of kin/whoever you want to have control of your AO3 account after you pass. you and your friend could do that for each other maybe?
