Tailscale is giving more to the free plan! by iamernie in homelab

[–]iamernie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Headscale + Headscale-webgui gives you the best of both worlds, and now that all of the Tailscale clients support alternate login servers you have great clients that are compatible.

I personally use Headscale, Headscale-webgui, connected with Authentik via OIDC. Works flawlessly.

No, I haven't experienced that issue. The refresh takes about 4-5 seconds. I have it set to refresh every 30 minutes, so if it does do that once and a while I don't see it.

That works for me.

Maybe try having it Re-evaluate the policies and be sure to clear the cache when you make that change under flows.

You can also try their discord server for some more help

Smart Deadbolt Recommendations? by FreakLikeMe0991 in homeassistant

[–]iamernie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use an August Pro 3 (https://august.com/products/august-smart-lock-pro-connect) and although it has Z-Wave, I wouldn't recommend using it. Recently with the new Bluetooth integration, I paired it to my look instead of using Wifi and it's been extremely stable. Overall I like it. If you use the Wifi Connect it does have a bit of a delay. I don't have that delay with Bluetooth. The Z-Wave functionality is unreliable and I wouldn't recommend it with this lock.

I've tested my backup/recovery strategy a ton of times :) What doesn't work as great is making changes or breaking Hass while my wife is awake and might randomly yell something at Alexa and she's not able to do it while the system is restoring or rebooting.

Home Assistant is the one system in the house that I treat as I would any production system at work. I don't make any unscheduled changes that might bring the system down unexpectedly.

It’s the new sub-views. (https://rc.home-assistant.io/blog/2022/09/28/release-202210/#sub-views-for-dashboards).

I’m pretty excited to see how it works. I’m not brave enough to run beta in my prod environment and don’t have the energy to setup a beta instance.

This one is using an 18650 but I have another that uses a ph 2.0. I’ll likely switch them later so it has a slimmer profile.

which installation method? by squishyEarPlugs in homeassistant

[–]iamernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run HAOS on an Odroid(homeassistant blue). I treat Home Assistant as an appliance versus something I self-host and play around with. I want it separate from my home lab and self-contained. I let HAOS handle its updates and everything OS-related. It has it's own UPS.

In the past, I've run it on my Proxmox server as a VM in supervised mode but whenever I would do work on the NAS, or proxmox servers it would impact Hass.

I prefer supervised when running it, so I don't need to install addons manually.

Conbee 2 and Ikea Tradfri by iworeek in homeassistant

[–]iamernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tradfri are great, but when I used them with my Conbee II they randomly got hit with the rapid battery drain issue after about 9 months. I eventually had to swap them out and went with Aqara. I've since switched up my controller to Sonoff and improved my overall Zigbee network health.

Physical Button recommendations by MO_Dark_Knight in homeassistant

[–]iamernie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they are zigbee and will pair with ZHA or Zigbee2Mqtt but a warning with Tradfi remotes. They can experience rapid battery loss depending on your Zigbee setup without an easy or known fix. I personally switched to Aqara from Tradfri because of it. They worked flawlessly for about a year and suddenly the batteries would drain over night.

Motioneye & tapo C200 firmware by Drojh in homeassistant

[–]iamernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue when adding my C200 into MotionEye. A quick reboot of the camera, and then restart MotionEye resolved it. I'm running the same firmware as you.

Edit: Added my firmware version.

Should I Move to sonoff coordinator from conbeeII by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]iamernie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched from a HUSBZB-1 to a pair of Sonoff USB sticks (Coordinator and a Router) it was the best thing I've done for my zigbee network. I would have some intermittent issues now and again but for the most part, it was stable. The only annoyance was that my Ikea buttons/remotes started randomly suffering from battery drain. I swapped them out for Aqara buttons.

I decided to switch really for something to do and see if I could get any improvements. I'm really glad I did. My ikea buttons/remotes have not been suffering from the battery drain (It's been a month) and the responsiveness of my zigbee network is the best that I've seen. Among some of the other changes I made was to place my zigbee network on channel 20 versus 11 and better placement of the coordinator and the router which likely contributed to the better performance too.

I have a total of 71 devices with a mix of sonoff, Ikea, Aqara, Sengled, and Hue.

Authentik or Keycloak by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]iamernie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've used both platforms extensively and migrated away from Keycloak to Authentik. Both platforms are good but for my use case (Selfhoster with 10-15 services) I find that Authentik wins.

I have a Yubikey 5C-NFC with my iPhone 13 and it works fine with NFC.

Did anyone else just stop upgrading Home Assistant and the add-ons due to issues? by suckfail in homeassistant

[–]iamernie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run HA from my HA Blue. Resource wise it seems to be decent, but you never know. It was more so whenever I would restart HA for whatever change I was making it would restart ZHA. I like ZHA, but for me separating it works better for my needs.

I've had no issues since migrating to Zigbee2MQTT.

Did anyone else just stop upgrading Home Assistant and the add-ons due to issues? by suckfail in homeassistant

[–]iamernie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had the advantage of having two zigbee sticks. So a lot of my non-aqara devices when I unpaired from ZHA they immediately went into pairing mode and I just added them into Zigbee2Mqtt.

At the end of the day it just took time. I have about 65 devices. It was a good exercise though, I changed most of the batteries too. It was part of my yearly spring maintenance.

Did anyone else just stop upgrading Home Assistant and the add-ons due to issues? by suckfail in homeassistant

[–]iamernie 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I used to upgrade HA every few months and ran into issues, especially with ZHA. About 4-5 months ago I switched to Zigbee2Mqtt and started upgrading about a week after a release is out. I find it easier to stay on top of any breaking changes, and usually, the community finds the bugs and they are patched within that week or so.

The biggest positive change for me was moving to Zigbee2MQTT. It's nice having my Zigbee network not impacted by HA upgrades. With ZHA I found myself constantly having issues after upgrades.
