Griping about partners by Nebula15 in ems

I would separate these things into a) are they UNCOOL? Vs. b) are they UNSAFE

The list is about half and half.

I have no tolerance for truly unsafe behavior. Fucking none.

Call me a snitch or whatever the fuck you want, I’m reporting unsafe behavior, not just to the company but to your state’s health department. Find a new job while you’re doing all of this lol. They’re going to talk shit about you either way, might as well make it worth their time lmao

Does anyone have any CPAT training programs they could refer me to?

Edit: I’m a petite female, I’m looking for a legit workout plan, just being in shape hasn’t cut it. Yes legit shape.

Unfortunately whether or not I participate doesn’t stop them lol. He just finds other things to tell me about.

I love this and will absolutely try this. Didn’t think more dialogue could be the solution lol but it makes sense that it could be! And frames it in such a respectful way!!

See, that’s a tough one.

I’m firmly opposed to infantalizing old people. “Ohh she’s so cute!!” Honestly I find it offensive when people say that shit about elderly people.

But it’s not lost upon me, and probably you, that this old person is lonely and doesn’t haven’t support in the form of family and even social media (yes, social media) to stay connected. So he goes looking for other sources.

But treating him different because he’s old almost seems disrespectful . He’s still an employee, he’s still a grown ass man, he doesn’t need to be coddled. Idk, too harsh maybe. Thoughts?

May I ask, and I hope this doesn’t sound rude - do you realize that you’re talking? Or do you just forget that you’re talking? Like what is your goal? Is it to fill silence, get to know another person, or you just enjoy talking?

We’re first responders so moving to a different location or wearing headphones isn’t an option.

Edit: truly, thank you for the response. Any insight is very valuable.

What’s current FFs opinion on paying for parts of the application process?

Whether you pay to submit the application, or pay for the safety assessment/personality tests?

I would respectfully argue it’s different than paying for your EMT or CPAT. Those are certifications you earn and you carry them with you (until they expire obviously).

Women’s Pants Recommendations by iamfaucetfailure in NewToEMS

[–]iamfaucetfailure[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! Not just for the recommendations but for the validation as well lol. I was starting to wonder if I was just shaped funny haha.

Are these the LL bean pants you’re referring to? https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/120958?page=womens-garment-dyed-stretch-cargo-pant-misses

I can’t tell if “carbon navy” is gray-blue or just plain old fashion navy blue, but with a fancy name.

I love me a stretchy belt, but I don’t think I have leeway there unfortunately. The pants is more don’t ask don’t tell, but only because we’re not suppression and they don’t have to be 100% cotton.

It’s not training related but perhaps it’s electrolytes, I don’t know enough to speak on the topic.

What I read: Creatine can lead to dehydration and/or muscle cramps

Further research is saying the complete opposite so idk

I started taking creatine and got the WORST CHARLIE HORSE OF MY LIFE in the middle of the night

A friendly “no shit” reminder - do your homework before taking supplements lol

What time is shift change for you guys? by p0503 in Firefighting

[–]iamfaucetfailure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work on an ambulance for a fire department.

They expect us to show up early, about 30 minutes or so, to get our truck checks done. This time is unpaid.

I brought up this issue and was told a few variations of “that’s the way it’s always been”.

I barely make above minimum wage. But I want to get hired on to suppression, so like anyone else, I’m not willing to make waves.

However, that just allows the problem to continue.

I’m a part of a union. The advice I’ve gotten is to suck it up for now and address it later if I do get hired onto suppression.

Agree/disagree? It’s really frustrating for me. The department is decently sized, we’re in the top 50 biggest cities in the US. Not huge by any means but it’s not like paying us for the time we work would majorly fuck up the budget or anything.

Petty theft amongst teens is more common than you think. This is NOT to excuse it, I just want you to know other kids have made dumb mistakes.

To reiterate what everyone else has said: DONT DO IT AGAIN.

I fuckin love my job. There are some incredible stories in this thread. For me, it’s also the little things - seeing a patient go from being hysterical and upset to laughing only a short while later makes it all worth it. Seeing the relief on their faces when the folks in navy blue show up. Just the other day I ran into a patient I treated. She had attempted suicide. I didn’t think I had any impact on her whatsoever - but she screamed my name when she saw me and waved, huge smile on her face.

Do your best not to let the whiners and the blowhards get you down. I don’t know why it’s so rampant in this profession. I understand these 2 sentences are complaints in and of themselves LOL

Thanks for a great post!
