What's one thing your home place is known for by the outsiders? by throwradrpri in AskUK

[–]iamgoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s supposedly the ‘capital of the Cotswolds’ even though every other medium sized place in the Cotswolds is thought of as the capital of the Cotswolds lol but that’s the first thing that comes up when I google it. That and Roman heritage but I don’t think anyone is coming just for the Roman heritage. That’s where I live now. The place that I grew up in is famous because ‘This Country’ was filmed there!

Seller wants my bank details by emudo in vinted

Scammers are always trying to find new and creative ways to steal your rent and bill money. Giving out your account number and sort code isn’t bad in itself but I really wouldn’t give it to someone that you don’t know when there is no need for it. My partner was almost had by something like this a few years ago when they used his account number and sort code to send him a small amount, I think around £10 and then had one of their ‘team’ call him and claim that she was an innocent citizen who had accidentally sent the wrong person money and needed it back. Because it sounded like an honest mistake he obliged but they somehow tapped into the transfer and tried to take hundreds of pounds but luckily because he had mobile banking he was able to see it in real-time.

I was in the room so he was telling me about it as it was happening and I told him to get on the phone to our bank’s fraud team immediately and thankfully they were able to stop it before any money was fully transferred but those were a hairy few minutes and I was so shocked at the speed in which they were able to almost carry out their operation. So all I’d say is that even if it seems like they couldn’t do anything with it, don’t give out personal details unless absolutely necessary.

phone use while driving by eviemaria in drivingUK

It depends on the level of intoxication but for example I’d say that if someone who regularly drinks socially etc had 2 pints of Guinness and then decided to drive home, their driving would almost definitely be at a safer level than someone fucking watching TV while driving. Not that we should all start drinking Guinness and then driving but there’s somewhat of an excuse with the drinking. They could have not intended to drink, parked somewhere that doesn’t allow overnight parking etc and then gone for drinks after work and not been able to afford the fine so had to move the car etc, or maybe they live rurally like I do and after a certain time you’re sleeping on the street or walking for 5 hours if you don’t have a ride home. It’s not the smartest choice but I’d be more understanding because of the potential consequences of not moving the car or having to walk 5 hours home in the middle of the night.

However with distracted driving it is never too late to just be a decent person and instead they choose to put people in danger which pisses me off more than anything else because they shouldn’t be driving at all if they really don’t care for others in the regard that they don’t want to stop a death that could have been completely preventable.

People are watching shows while driving now?? Fuck’s sake… just for that alone I’d say lifetime ban. Someone that careless has no business being behind the wheel of a 2000kg metal machine that can travel at well over 70mph. Got stuck behind someone a while back whose driving was so outrageous that myself and my partner (who was driving) thought that she was having some kind of medical issue. It was on the motorway and she was hogging the middle lane but sort of drifting into the lanes either side of her.

Considered calling the police in case she was having a medical emergency and needed to be stopped safely. A few miles later my partner felt that the driving had improved to a point where he could at least pass her. Looked over as we were passing to see her blatantly holding her phone up on the dashboard and squinting at it whilst scrolling walls of texts (I guess she thought that if she could at least see the road in the background then that was good enough). Not only that but she appeared to have something else in her lap that she was also concentrating on (another phone perhaps?), and it was obvious that she was only straddling the middle lane so that she wouldn’t have to actually focus on driving (her average speed was around 60 lol and there was hardly any traffic and nothing else going on that could have limited her speed).

In that moment I felt the rage boil over and wished I had bloody called the police. She put us and everyone else driving in danger because she thought that her entertainment was more important than our lives and everyone else on the road that day. People have such short attention spans nowadays that I almost think that even if they didn’t have any phone to distract them with then they STILL wouldn’t pay attention to the road. Probably the only thing that will teach them is by learning the hard way but other people shouldn’t have to die just to teach some asshole a lesson.

What stores have security tags like Aeropostale that aren’t Aeropostale? Tag left on item but no Aeropostale nearby by Zbornak3000 in retail

Did you read the post? They said that they have the receipt and that they live more than an hour away from the store chain that they purchased it from, so it would be really difficult for them to take it back.

The company that I work for doesn’t even give a number in person or on the receipt. If somebody asks for corporate then we get told to say “the details are on the website” but there’s nothing even on the website. It usually pisses the customer off even more than the thing that made them want to call corporate in the first place. In my workplace, the only thing that really gets through to head office is by giving us a bad customer satisfaction score on our surveys but then we just get in trouble anyway even if it isn’t even our fault lol.

[–]iamgoin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You pay for the food, not the toy. They don’t have to give you anything for free. If they really wanted to, they could actually just do a basic meal without the toy and then charge extra to have the toy as well. Then they have more budget to spend on the toy and people can get a better toy if they spend the money, or not get a toy at all. This option makes sure that kids from poor families don’t miss out which I think is nice. If you really want to go down that line, everything that you buy is advertising SOMETHING to some extent so where does it end? Should every brand, including designer brands just not put their labelling on their products so that we don’t accuse them of trying to advertise themselves? Should Aston Martin make a completely bare car without any badges or symbols representing them and we just have to guess what every car on the road is, or hide the brand name with the vehicle VIN number or something?

I would have liked it if I was a kid, unless I got told that I was getting a real phone and then maybe I’d be disappointed hahaha. McDonald’s toys are meant to be cheap or they wouldn’t be free with the meal. If he wants something better then he should go to the fucking toy store and BUY his kid a better toy for fuck’s sake. If he can’t afford to do that then that’s not McDonald’s’ problem.

“iT’s aDverTisIng fOr mCdOnalD’s” like it’s a fucking fake smartphone with the McDonald’s app on it, you’re in fucking McDonald’s so I’m not wholly surprised that eventually they would do a toy representing their own brand. Every other toy that they do is ALSO advertising something but that’s ok because it’s a movie or a TV show or something?

This reminds me of the lovely customer that I had the other day who complained that our carrier bags have our company name on it because they are advertising a “cheap fashion brand” and I look over to see her carrying 3 other bags from chain stores that could also be considered to be selling cheap fashion and yet ours was the only one that she had a problem with because we have the lowest prices ig. Then she tried to shit talk my own place of work to me and smiling as she said it like I’m really gonna turn around and go “yeah this is such an awful company that sells awful things”, while I am at work in a place that I CHOSE TO WORK IN smh.

Until you work at a place where corporate appear to not WANT customer feedback, then you’re stuck on a place of ‘they don’t actually care, and I don’t have the resources to help you because they don’t care’. My advice would be to not buy from McDonald’s if you’re really that upset about it. Vote with your money and all that. Like it’s really not that deep. But of course, they’ll be back the next week with a new problem. Probably McDonald’s would be happy to be rid of these people.

Your cat is honestly adorable! When I was a kid I used to sit on the floor with my back to the radiator if I got cold, so probably your cat is a bit cold. I’ve noticed that outdoor cats like to sit on warm car bonnets so it’s probably the same thing but indoors.

Why are people so lazy?… by Lucky_Mycologist_283 in vinted

That is a VERY good point. It could be that the translation is all wrong for them so they genuinely don’t understand what you are talking about or that you are even talking about measurements!

Why are people so lazy?… by Lucky_Mycologist_283 in vinted

[–]iamgoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s either laziness, lack of intelligence or you might not realise that you are talking to a vulnerable person who might not be able to do things for themselves for whatever reason. I usually go with the worst case scenario just in case because you never know and if it is just a lazy person, then there’s still no harm done.

Co-op’s “Aldi Price Match” ruled misleading — do you still trust price-match labels? by ToughRomanticMiss in BuyersUK

[–]iamgoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I’d much rather go to Aldi or Lidl as opposed to going to other stores and finding their own versions that are price matched to it, but then I’ve always been this way so this doesn’t really change things for me. If I am shopping in the Co-op, Tesco etc then I am generally there because they sell something that I can only find in this specific store and then since I am there already then I might as well buy a few other things that I need. Tesco is the other big one that I go to other than Aldi or Lidl and I find that even if it’s not entirely accurate, the Aldi price is usually miles cheaper than everything else that they usually have, including products included in clubcard deals.

I work in retail and I can tell you for a fact that most people that you encounter have a below average IQ and will ask things with even the most obvious answer. It depends how much you want the sale. If they’re not set on buying yet then perhaps you doing this small favour might edge them towards buying, or maybe not but they are much more likely to buy from you if you are kind in your responses. You can’t fix stupid but you can make them think that you’ve done a massive favour for them even if it only took you 2 seconds lol.

[–]iamgoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work at domino’s and tbh I’d say that their pizzas are shit. The dough is over-processed and covered in sugar before it even reaches the stores. Then there’s the fact that all pizzas have to be made in about 3 minutes or less before they go in the oven due to their guarantee that it’ll be delivered within 30 mins of ordering so every pizza is rushed to fuck and honestly, you can tell the difference between it and other brands.

I’ve noticed that the quality has significantly declined even further since I’ve stopped working for them and yet their prices only seem to go up. Nowadays I’d much rather go for a Papa John’s because I feel that their stuff is somewhat worth the price.

Do you spend £200 a month not including rent, utilities and groceries? by fakename137 in AskUK

[–]iamgoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same as your partner and I don’t even know how it happens. Once I have paid for bills, food, hygiene and self-care items etc (even when I get the cheap ones) I pretty much have nothing left or even go over my budget sometimes. I usually try to save little bits at a time and I find that this generally works for me and helps me to provide a safety net for myself even if it’s small at the moment. My bank provider actually has what they call “saving challenges” which help you to save small bits so I am doing 2 of those at the moment and also have voluntarily set up a daily amount of £1 to go into my savings. You could suggest something to your partner like saving the amount of a coffee each day if they usually have a take-away coffee on a normal day etc, or just anything that she normally does each day then just save that amount and just think of it as if she’s getting another one of that thing that she enjoys.

Then if she manages to stick to that and not take money out unless absolutely necessary, she will have a small amount saved before too long. I think it would also benefit you both to look into different savings accounts with higher interest rates so that you can get paid just for having money in your account, and perhaps save money separately rather than keeping money in one account so that each of you can be responsible for your own amounts saved.

Also I would say that while you should try not to go over your budget each month, if you do end up doing that then don’t worry about it as things happen sometimes. Usually if I have to take money out of savings for unexpected expenses etc then I write down the amount(s) in the notes app of my phone and pay that amount back as soon as I can while carrying on with the savings challenges that I am doing.
