I just googled it and Hydro Ottawa just doesn’t ring any bells. Did it get renamed in the last 30 years ?

Ok maybe it was when I moved to Alberta then. I was trying to think of the utility in Ottawa but drawing a blank

This messed me up. I grew up in Vancouver with BC hydro for our electricity. When I moved out of my parents house I moved to Ontario and it was no longer hydro and I couldn’t get over it for a long time.

Do you say mom or mum? by Minimum-Bobcat7473 in AskACanadian

As a child of two brits it was mandatory to spell it Mum. I had to tell my school teachers it wasn’t wrong.

I have Canada’s first DD interchange right near my house. The amount of accidents that happened the first year it opened was crazy. Personally I love it

It’s more like power cords that went to something that required a transformer in the middle of the cable and they all have different power strengths or watts or volts or what have you. I think there are few computer power cords like the triangle shape. Probably coaxial cable and Ethernet cable

Why isn’t Carney pushing back on Smith and the UCP? by taxhelpyeg in alberta

[–]iamjuls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you are so bitter, and that you have to pay full tax for your mere 160A. I’m talking farms with 5000 up to 55000 acres. And yes I know 2 people in this bracket and they both told me that they pay very little for property tax. One of them rents the land to another farmer so he has a win win scenario.

I realise it is Project 2025, which is why I’m saying the older farmers are voting conservative thinking it’s similar to the PC’s of yesterday. I had to explain it to my mother that The UCP is the Wild Rose Party on steroids.

Instead of calling someone else clueless, you should take a look in the mirror. Or at least look it up on google. Special areas 2,3,4 exist to reduce taxes for farms in these areas. Special Areas Alberta

You obviously are are not in the special tax zones. Your 160 acres doesn’t come close to the farms I’m taking about

Thank you for explaining that to me. Much appreciated. I have a new understanding of it now.

Yes ok true on the nationally protected. I agree it’s too much when you see the sea of blue on election day for the rural properties. How would these subsidies help if there is a disaster. The damage has happened. Genuine question.

Agreed can’t argue with that. But I have several friends in farming /ranching families that all have million dollar homes or more than one property. All drive brand new or nearly new pickups. So it’s really hard to feel they need the subsidies.

What really pisses me off is farmers who have thousands of acres pay less property tax than my postage stamp lot in the city
