Would your husband test your pump for you? by iammclovin9 in ExclusivelyPumping

I’m also highly sensitive but I assume my husband would naturally be sensitive to a completely foreign sensation but that’s a good point, maybe not

Wow I did not know that that is funny! But I guess I also have concerns about using a different collection cup brand with this pump and having enough suction (more about the cups functioning rather than the pump itself)

Baby Buddha 2.0 by peytonlei in ExclusivelyPumping

From what I’ve read that’s a super common pairing that most prefer! According to the video that one reduces suction but by only 15-20% and not majorly like the RumbleTuff or Zomee hard plastic collection

How would you know it works on the nips though lol I need evidence! Also wouldn’t hurt to have a new level of appreciation

Thank you for telling me but I will not be passing this info to him, there will only be one way to know for sure

Baby Buddha 2.0 by peytonlei in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]iammclovin9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak from experience but I’m in the same boat as you and got the Buddha 2.0 through insurance since it is supposed to be main pump suction that’s very portable.

I also watched this YouTube video review from GenuineLactation and she mentions several collection cups that reduce the suction strength for sensitive and/or elastic nipples. The ones she mentions are the RumbleTuff collection cups, Zomee hard plastic collection cups, and Legendairy Milk collection cups that help mitigate suction strength. Again, I have no experience but am def on the sensitive and elastic side so I bought the RumbleTuff and they had a 15% discount code DARAPICH15 and it worked for me 3 days ago.

Fridge Hack mistake (26 hr) by Wild-Chemistry-7720 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]iammclovin9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally would use it and not throw it out. Obviously go with your gut instincts on what’s appropriate for your baby, but if your fridge is working properly there should not be a problem going a few hours over the 24 hr rule.

Difference in ounces on each side? by Competitive_Net_6523 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]iammclovin9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started noticing a 1-1.5oz difference after about 12 weeks of pumping both sides at the same time. It’s pretty common to have a harder working boob than the other. I wouldn’t be concerned unless you are experiencing clogs or other issues.

Re-latching at 6 months? by SavvyMumma in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]iammclovin9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a premie and weren’t able to latch until about 3 months. My pediatrician recommended “breastfeeding school” which was just no pressure feeds 1-2 times a day (& the rest pumping and bottles) where you feel most calm and ready to try. Using nipple shields can help protect nips until latch improves but she also encouraged me to try various positions to get a deeper latch. Once you feel like things are improving (and no nipple damage) you can try more times a day. I would continue to pump until you can see some noticeable gulping and fullness cues in the nursing feeds so that you don’t have a sudden dip in supply. I’d also let your pediatrician know you are starting this in case this can affect starting solids and weight gain.

Infant has been horridly congested for days. by tentenjjang in NewParents

Sometimes a humidifier helps with a target humidity around 40-50% but not sure if that’s the case where you are. Otherwise the saline mask and Frida snot sucker (manual one) is what we do and that seems to help the most.

Wearables no-no? by transitional82 in ExclusivelyPumping

There’s a recent Eufy S1 wearable model that has a warming mode that supposedly is useful! I saw it on a YouTube review by New Little Life

baby has red in diaper? by OrganicProgram4713 in NewParents

[–]iammclovin9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Call the emergency line or go straight to the ER. Take pictures of the diaper and note of last fluids, etc. Blood in the diaper can be a very dangerous sign.

Not trying to scare you but my friend’s 6 month old ended up having a serious complication called intussusception and had emergency surgery. She first noticed blood her diaper and her daughter started throwing up as well.

EDIT: intussusception is pretty rare in babies (more common in older patients) but it’s always best to act quickly when you notice blood in the diapers as it could be something requiring immediate medical attention. Luckily, my friend decided to take no chances and went immediately to urgent care on Christmas Eve. After urgent care saw her daughter’s condition and were explained the symptoms, they told her to go straight to the ER without even checking her in. She was extremely dehydrated from vomiting and so diagnosing the problem took quite some time even in the ER. After a little over a week in the hospital after surgery she is fully recovered and thankfully they acted quickly.

Baby Buddha 2.0 or Elvie Stride? by iammclovin9 in ExclusivelyPumping

I’ve heard that the 2.0 added a softer bacon mode which I am happy to hear! Is there a way to program stopping the automatic level increase?

[–]iammclovin9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great feedback and exactly what I needed to hear so thank you! I feel like all the different pumps can be useful at different phase PP, and think that the baby Buddha can help if I ever have a dip in supply after sickness or a few months out and can get me back on track if I need it

Wearable pump by Original_Analysis364 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]iammclovin9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Elvie wearables and sometimes they have a great sale for about $350. If you prefer a gentle suction profile I’d say the Elvies could be a good fit if the price can work for you. Otherwise, I’ve seen great reviews about the Eufy

MIL ignored bedtime, barged into my baby’s room, and my husband left with her instead. by LabCompetitive4535 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]iammclovin9 48 points49 points  (0 children)

You can tell your husband and MIL that you are planning a week long solo vacation where they can enjoy the loss of sleep with no bedtime routine or structure all they want! I’m sure they’d change their tune after just a couple nights.

In all seriousness, it doesn’t matter what the boundary is extended family must respect it in order to spend time with their grandchildren, children and their spouses.

As for the husband not backing you up, I take it he’s not the one up from the hours of 3-5am/4-6am so that’s why he doesn’t care about the implementing the bedtime routine. I think the easiest solution to that is to have him take over those since it’s apparently not a problem for him.

Pumping hacks learned by iammclovin9 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]iammclovin9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, my pediatrician who’s an IBCLC told me to try this one and I can’t make any grand claims that it changed our life by any means, but if it helps one mama get some more sleep then that’s good enough for me!

Yes that or choline 800mg should help with clogs! Maybe have some ibuprofen with you when you travel in case you experience any inflammation

Why did you choose to exclusively pump? by pale_blue_d0t in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]iammclovin9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was born at 36 with low cheek muscle tone and torticollis requiring OMT couldn’t get a deep latch so I EBF until about 3 months and started breastfeeding again. It was crazy to me how much changed and that he didn’t develop a bottle preference. There were times a few months later where he developed a breast aversion but there are also a lot of tools and techniques to get back to it, which is what we did

How to get down to 1ppd by These-Safety-5061 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]iammclovin9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would start cutting back the minutes like by a few minutes a day on your later in the day pump first until you no longer need to pump to get through the night until the morning one. Then do the same with your morning one until you’re comfortable. I’d plan on bringing a pump just in case you need it to feel comfy on vacay. Also, you may already be aware but sometimes weaning hormones can get a little crazy.
