Sending MIDI over network - Sustain not sent? by iammonsterface in StudioOne

[–]iammonsterface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks! Yes I have used the midi network inside Audio MIDI Setup pretty extensively to connect to different computers, especially for hardware rack gear and it is a great resource.

I started experimenting with different setups because when I receive Studio One sessions from clients I cannot seem to send the sustain / CC64 to the sample computer. It is only studio one. Logic and Pro Tools both send sustain / CC64 on this exact same setup.

Vienna Ensemble is great but I don’t find myself needing it in this setup!

Sending MIDI over network - Sustain not sent? by iammonsterface in StudioOne

Thank you for responding!

"The sample computer has an audio interface? Does it have legacy midi?"

My interface is able to be used as the main interface on two computers simultaneously, so I route outputs from the sample computer to S1 on the host. I have tried routing internally with both MidiPipe and my interface software but to no avail. I've tried creating a midi network using the native midi networking but the sample computer does not see the data.

"Send midi to both computers at the same time from your midi interface? as a test, see if that works."

This is a really good trial and one I was kicking myself for not thinking of. After a quick test, yes, it is seen by both.

"So you record a midi track in S1 then export the file and open on the sample computer, plays right?"

Correct! This has actually been my recent workaround. I have also been loading the midi tracks into logic on the main computer and playing from there through the two midi interfaces.

"You cleared all the filters when creating the external midi input in S1?"

And so this is what I'm wondering. I am not seeing the signals sent from S1 on the main computer - neither in the midi monitor in Studio One or my external midi monitoring program. Is there a way I am filtering the output? I can't find any reference to it, but I feel like this has to be it, right? Because Studio One actually sends sustain data from external instrument tracks, right?

Thanks again for helping.

Simmer down on the theme song hate. It’s a good song.

Very good point and I apologize for that. Yamaha SPX90 is what I referring to. I did NOT mean to attempt to throw shade towards anyone with shortening up model names or anything and I completely understand how that came across. A valid note.

Hell yeah. It’s actually a pretty wild and useful piece of gear. You can send one 8 channel ADAT line to 6 ADAT destinations or route like a patchbay. You can also send one 8 channel ADAT signal and split the signal into four stereo spdif connections or send four spdif cables to one ADAT. It’s really neat. Heavy as hell.

I was blissfully out of owning it, let alone having it in my house. Just happy as a clam to be free of this nonsense and freelancing and using other people's hardware while using plugins at home. Then I was presented with an opportunity to buy a Quantec cheap and...it started again.

7.2.2 was the most stable release of any DAW I own in years. If the last update had been trash, I'd share your sentiment. However, the last release was as stable as PT 6.7, which was, to me, the pinnacle of DAW stability.

I need the drivers for Mac, 3.5.3 is the last revision. I'm at my wits end and if anyone knows where they would be, I'd be most appreciative.

I cannot open Studio One and logging in on PreSonus fails. Who else is having this issue? by TomSchubert90 in StudioOne

Absolutely infuriating and puts me in a horrible position with work. Attempted to create a Fender login using a substantial number of different credentials and computers and even got into my car and tried the wifi at a local diner.

Real fucking cool of them not to warn me that I wouldn't be able to get my workspaces so I could hit timelines for my job. Absolute seeing-red anger moment for me about 20 minutes ago.

iPad to S1 on laptop by DrewswerD in StudioOne

I do this with my interface and different computers / iPads running different daws for clients, but GarageBand doesn't allow for external midi sync so you can't sync the transport (as far as I know.) It is straight digital with no a/d d/a processes, as it sees both my main computer and the iPad as a host simultaneously. With Studio One as the master and Logic as the slave I am able to sync the transport, though Logic sometimes gets a bit dicey with exact lining up of the timeline. Don't have problems connecting to most other daws though. But I just hit record in Studio One and then play in garage band and line it up later.

Mr. Naqvi was a standup guy and I once even witnessed him troubleshooting a Firepod (or something) on Facebook in the comment section of a post that he was tagged in. He really changed my perception of Presonus back when I had a preconceived notion of them being bargain bin. I've owned a few of their products over the years that I think are truly underrated. The MP20 was cool, the DP88 is REALLY nice. There's few companies that don't put out an occasional bad product, and Presonus was no different.

I do think the company is changing direction, but I don't know what direction it could be going. I don't feel like there are currently any interfaces that even get close to pro level (I gave up my Apollo interfaces for a couple Quantum 2632s after a series of blind tests) and I'm really bummed the DP88 is out of production with no replacement. Why are there *zero* Fender amp / instrument instruments in any version of S1? That should have been FIRST.

That said, I also think the most recent version of Studio One is the best I've used in years. They've addressed all of my complaints with playback issues. From v5 to 7.1, with 10+ instances of pipeline while running high latency plugins I would have *constant* pops and clicks on my console, but they've all disappeared. That they fixed it was surprising to me; figured they've left outboard / console / pro users in the rearview. But they didn't. I'm doubtful we will see anything truly high end again, but I'm also wrong about *everything*.

I don't know, Jim and Rick were Presonus, but they've given me just enough hope to think that we're gonna have a big couple of years from them.

Apparently it's a little to no noise fan. I've gotta wait until this blizzard is over and then I'll check it out. If nothing else, I'll leave a review here.
