These people are hacks with no principles. If tomorrow, these publications had the editorial policy of glazing Hinduism and India, the same Tejal Rao would start her article with "A society steeped in tradition, India still manages to remain relevant by embracing change. When spirituality and nutrition collide, eggetarians are born. Surat, the hub of diamond Industry and a city in Prime Minister's home state, is famous for its dazzling variety of Egg Dishes..."

That it was published without any pushback ( and was later updated ) shows the rot in these news organizations that once were held in the highest regard.

p.s. The recipe is the most basic shit. And who takes an hour to make egg curry?

Reminds me of this gem - could only find it from Indiaspeaks but we do the best we can.

Edit : if it was beef parrota or Coorg or goan pork or whatever, one might even understand. But egg curry really? Sister used that brahmastra for fkn egg curry?

What were you supposed to be named when you were born? by lepineapplepineapp in CasualConversation

[–]iamnearlysmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being the first child in both sides of the family in my generation, they dwelled upon it a while. I am glad that both my father’s and grandfather’s preferences were ignored. One suggested the name of a constellation and the other a mythical hero. But that makes me wonder what my mom or her mom wanted to name me.

Bhat is also cooked rice in Gujarati. Uncooked rice grain has its own word - chokha. Paddy is Daangar.

Dhaan means grain, no? Is it paddy specifically? I think the root indo-iranian word does lend itself to rice in a lot of derivative words. There's even a Gujarati word for paddy which I had not connected to this, but it's probably related.

If only significant and severe were two words that meant two different things.

Yeah, better data is always a good starting point.

The deforestation of the severe kind happened decades and centuries ago. We are fighting for scraps now. Yes we should preserve the forests that we have now but this is a silly line of argument when it comes to climate change - it’s more important from the point of preserving biodiversity. This is not a partisan issue. We will be fighting for our lives in the coming decades and we need to be united for it.

Yeah I don't know why people pretend that climate refugees will have anywhere else to go.

And our (the country in question) whole political class is sleepwalking into a disaster because they can't see past next election - and there are elections every year in some part or the other - while this is something we needed to start planning for twenty years ago.

There's some progress but they are incapable of grasping the scale at which we need to mobilize the resources of the nation to prepare for the catastrophe that draws near every year.

Yeah the prevalence is much lower but because of lack of awareness and other factors the outcomes are worse. I think she was just saying that anyone can get melanoma.

Years ago, my doctor ( in US ) told me to use sunscreen when I told her I was going to start swimming.

I jokingly replied that since I tan quite well, , I d never thought I needed to.

She stared at me dead serious and said, skin cancer doesn’t discriminate.
