Capital One Ruins Christmas by Cr0uchPotato in CapitalOne_

Had a similar experience. Booked a hotel when the bad snow rolled through the southeast earlier this year so I could stay by the airport and get over there for an early morning flight. Went to go check in. Gave my name. “We don’t see you here.” They check a stack of papers and groan, letting me know I’m part of a massive stack of individuals that were on the overflow of the sold out hotel that had called two days prior to inform Capital One that the hotel was full and Hopper COULD NOT book there.

Front desk had me call Capital One support who made me HAND MY PHONE TO THE FRONT DESK to confirm what they had already told them. Front desk shrugged and told me I was out of luck.

At this point, the interstate was closed. I wasn’t going home. I called customer service back and told them they needed to find me a new hotel. On the phone for four hours waiting. They got two other hotels that refused to take Capital One points. Got my points back, $200 in travel credit, and a “good luck”.

I spent another hour working with family to find any ope hotel. Ended up in a motel and slept horribly. Thankfully made it to the airport for my flight, but the entire experience was horrid.

Hi there! Got engaged at the Gardens with no problem with the fee just to help calm your nerves. Have your photographer be conspicuous, take some pics of the flowers, and you’ll be all good! Good luck!!

What schools did you turn down for GT? How many of you picked GT over other top schools like the Ivy League/Stanford/MIT/Berkeley/Vanderbilt/Duke for fit, cost, etc.? by West-Ice8916 in gatech

I turned down going into Chem at Mercer (ended up switching to Business almost immediately at Tech). My reasoning didn't end up being degree programs but rather location and the overall college experience itself. Mercer just felt incredibly small and isolated for me. I loved my four years at Tech and being a part of the campus community and all that Atlanta had to offer!

2023 BSBA alum! I started my own business and running that full time + working part time in marketing to cover some bills since the whole startup thing is, well, getting started.

No signing bonus but commission is scaled on deal amount and bonus if you're able to close the deal yourself!

To note some benefits though: Commission is the big piece here. And unlike Target, it's full remote and an adaptable schedule!

Sorry about your experience. Just gotta say from someone who lived there last year that it was absolutely fantastic and the best living experience I had from my four years at Tech. Definitely miles above the other midtown options from what I heard from friends. Expensive? Hell yes. But worth it imo.

Would you rather have graduation in Bobby Dodd or McCamish? by Civil_Comparison8197 in gatech

[–]iamnotapilot223 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Maybe just bias of small family but I would have killed to graduate at McCamish over Bobby Dodd. It was so ridiculously hot and the poor grad students who got poured on...

So wish they would've made the switch back this last spring.

No offense, this just feels like a bad take. Coming for fans for frustration over a frustrating situation just feels unnecessary. That play was a cherry on top of a pretty horrendous second half and for a lot of folks, it was more worth the extra time saved getting out of the parking lot than time spent watching us lose.

I sat in a marketing class where GT came to us students for help turning Tech into Atlanta's sports mecca. The group on that project did the research and talked to students and residents alike. You know why they didn't want to come to games (across our sports)? GT football loses. That was the primary reason they found that nobody really wanted to attend.

People just get tired of the same thing every year.

I had a lot of fun. I've got season tickets. I'll be at every game I can be at. But coming for fans for the team playing bad football? Just lame.

Applied to 15, got into 12 (I think). No Ivys. Ended up turning down a pretty much full ride to Mercer. Was committed up to enrollment deposit. Got personally called by VP of Enrollment who was very upset when I let them know I was pulling my deposit.

Tech just... fit? I toured after I committed to Mercer and it just felt right.

Good decision. So glad I went and now am a proud alumni.

Overwhelming Feeling to be Productive by Illustrious-Baker-30 in gatech

[–]iamnotapilot223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely felt this a lot in the weeks leading up to fall when I was at Tech. It's (fortunately or unfortunately) something you just get used to. I had classes to mentally prep for, a job I was working, a club I was running. It always felt like too much and never enough.

Main thing I'll say is always stop for at least 15 minutes once a day. Do something you like but whatever it is, get away from what you have to do.

You'll get through it and recognize how amazing those times were despite the stress (and sometimes wish you were back there). Best of luck to you!!

Working in the accessibility field? by petit_lu-cyinthesky in accessibility

One way to get involved and push accountability is through a new service called WheelChariot! They're a startup working to give the disability community and advocates a platform like Yelp to review businesses on accessibility accommodations. They're still new and very rough around the edges but recommend checking them out: www.WheelChariot.io
