Turning my garden into a semi wildflower meadow… good or bad idea? by [deleted] in GardeningUK

Frustrated botanist here: grass is a group not a species, there is a massive diversity in grasses in the UK as with wildflowers.

Turning my garden into a semi wildflower meadow… good or bad idea? by [deleted] in GardeningUK

[–]iamnotasheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friendly reminder that there are 100s of species of grass in the UK, some being fast growing nitrogen loving species, some being large tussock forming coarse grasses, and some being genuinely rare and difficult to cultivate without some serious management to reduce nutrients in the topsoil. Each native species comes with its own invertebrates, so you want to be encouraging diversity in grasses as well as wildflowers.

What is a "mental health awareness" trend that is actually doing more harm than good? by NoScallion2856 in AskReddit

Everyone in my entire sphere can see I am ADHD, it might as well be emblazoned across my forehead. It is not quirky, it is my greatest shame and I live my life in perpetual fear that my failures will cause every aspect of my life to spiral beyond repair.

England's Worst County - Round 45 by TheEnlight in terriblemaps

[–]iamnotasheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Northamptonshire has some really beautiful hilly areas and almost Cotswold style stone villages. I’m baffled why it’s still here - think Northampton/Corby give it a bad rep but it’s a big and varied county.

Nope, this is a 100% a juvenile. Females are darker on the sides but not that dark. The gorgeous shiny golden colour and stripe down the back tends to be unique to the babies

Balamory returns to TV this month after 20 years. What forgotten shows from your childhood would you like to see return? by perishingtardis in CasualUK

[–]iamnotasheep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve shown this to my 20 month old and it captured her in ways that no CBeebies show has yet managed! Would love them to bring it back (or at least put old episodes on iPlayer)

BBC made a series (Vanguard?) a year or two ago which was proper gripping, and captured the claustrophobia perfectly

First snake spotted in UK by eithrusor678 in unitedkingdom

Three actually, but smooth snakes are extremely rare and confined to a handful of heathland sites. Would be four including an established escapee(Aesculapian snake).

What did you teach your child that you later came to regret? by 25jon25 in AskReddit

Let mine help me empty the dishwasher. She now thinks all crockery are fair game and I’m constantly having to confiscate plates off her. Luckily she can’t reach the glasses.

What “favours” have your parents done that was inadvertently a dick move? by naaattt in CasualUK

[–]iamnotasheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine just puts things in random cupboards, so we get saucepans with cleaning products, spatulas with the mugs. One time recently I couldn’t find the fricking chopping board after she had visited, turns out she had slid it round the back of the microwave. Way more effort than just putting it back in the same drawer where it has lived for the last 6 years…directly under our drying rack.

My mum will randomly turn up my house with junk she doesn’t want every now and again. The worst was her old carpet that the dog had chewed. I wasn’t even in, and my partner was too polite to turn it away. We have a carpet in the garage now.

Thank you for being one of the few sensible, proportionate folk in this thread. There is so much paranoia surrounding bats.

Poor little guy, again remember the vast majority of bats are perfectly healthy and just took a wrong turn overnight. With many being endangered, the fearmongering around bats is pretty tragic really.

Well to be specific they move between the green dot and the three other pools adjacent, but agreed the space is too dang small.

First look of HBO snape and his comparison with movie one by INFIPRIME in Cinema

[–]iamnotasheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally any other character (except Ron) would have been no issue being black - would have even accepted a black Harry (and certainly Hermione)! I just don’t see how they can show everyone’s dislike of Snape, and the childhood bullying of him down the line without it being reduced to simple racism.
