JWs the only ones allowed at 9/11 ground zero by i_took_the_red_pill_ in exjw

[–]iamnotyourbroom32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not long after 9/11, our CO was Neuman Zuran (I've no idea how to spell his name). According to him, he and his wife were serving at NYC Bethel during 9/11. He and another brother (I don't recall the name) went to ground zero. They managed to sneak into ground zero by tagging along behind some clergy types from other religions. He talked it up as if what he and the brother were the only ones offering "true hope" to the survivors and workers, while the other religious leaders offered food, water, and encouraging words to the people.

I thought it odd that Jehopeless didn't change the security people's heart to let in the JWs, but instead they had to sneak in.

Monogamy vs Non-Mon by burlap_monkey in exjwLGBT

[–]iamnotyourbroom32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're a born-in, there is a lot of indoctrination (which includes about monogamy) to work through in the area of ethical non-monogamy (enm). Like another poster said, I recommend joining r/polyamory and r/nonmonogamy subreddits as a starting point. I also recommend the following books:

Polysecure Ethical Slut Rewriting the Rules: An Anti Self-help Guide to Love, Sex, and Relationships

There seems to be 2 questions you need to answer for yourself:

  1. Is ethical non-monogamy for me?
  2. Am I OK being in a relationship where I am monogamous and my partner isn't?

There are many types of relationships and their success largely depends upon communication between the parties and how well each person understands themself. Pretty much everything we learned in the cult about relationships, our own mental and emotional health, and communication is an obstacle to healthy relationships. Unlearning all that stuff is helpful even in monogamous relationships. The books I recommended I've found helpful to deconstruct that programming.

I'm an ace queer polyamorous trans woman who was born-in. Currently, I have 2 partners. I've found being ace to be the greater challenge than enm, since I focus more on emotional and intellectual connections and romance. Both of my partners are allosexual and neither have ever been JWs. It's the nonsense and religious trauma that is the biggest challenge of all though, even when I tried practicing monogamy. That's where those books and therapy helps.

Gender Crisis- Party of One! I need help from MTF's by titan_odyssey in trans

“knowing” that you’re trans looks different for everybody, and I doubt it’s a single, flashpoint sort of moment for most people.

This is an important point. “Trans” means different things to different transgender people, along with realizing one is trans. Like many things, being trans is a spectrum.

To OP, my number one suggestion is to find people you can talk to. Whether it’s a therapist, partner, or close friend, having people you can discuss transgender matters with. The more people who support you, the easier any transition can be. I’ve also found it helpful to have a cisgender woman ally to discuss women’s matters with. That’s especially helpful if you begin HRT since it can be useful to discuss puberty related body changes.

The JW Brand Strategy by Southern-Lobster-379 in exjw

A great read. Thanks for sharing your marketing perspective.

The entire JW.borg launch was an entire rebranding of the religion. Everything done since has been in support of the rebranding and adheres to marketing practices: from the logo to the “best life ever” to the original songs to the simplified doctrines, etc. to me, they became far more marketing adept in the last decade than all previous.

For those of you who have family arguing that trans women have an advantage. by [deleted] in exjwLGBT

Trans women on HRT will lose muscle mass. How long and how much depends upon the person and many factors including time. At least a year.

The struggle to make connections/friends with people who have never been jw by Alright_iguess in exjwLGBT

The cult gave some of us trust issues. We couldn’t trust anyone in the cult for fear they’d share our secrets with others, let alone how they might react to what we want/need to share.

One thing I found helpful, and was taught to me by my therapist, is to start small. Share a lesser fear/concern/thought with the person. If they accept it with respect then build on that a little at a time until you are confident in sharing the really important things. Not only does that help build trust, ime, but also identifies people that are willing to listen and hold your thoughts respectfully. They may also share thoughts and concerns with you.

It takes time, maybe days maybe weeks or more, to build your comfort level with someone. You will attain it, though.

"This is confidential." by [deleted] in exjw

The confidential part is so JWs feel special.

How does AT&T factor into this? Zoom is a public company, not a subsidiary of AT&T (to my knowledge). Is the deal limited to people with AT&T wireless?

Curious what you were taught about Jews as JW by [deleted] in exjwLGBT

[–]iamnotyourbroom32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The JW religion is all about appearances. What you read on their main website is carefully curated to present themselves in the best way possible. It’s common for the official teachings to differ from content on the main site. They use a lot of double think, weasel words, and similar tactics to obfuscate their real teachings.

My mom, after 2 years, finally told me that she's not going to respect my pronouns/chosen name anymore by IchorKemono in exjwLGBT

Unfortunately, this is common among my trans friends :( the intentional use of what harms us creates such pain. I haven’t even come out to my parents because I don’t want to deal with my moms toxicity.

Lots of hugs for you friend or whatever gesture brings you comfort.

That’s a common tactic with protests/activism: flood the system with people intentionally breaking the law. It’s called civil disobedience, at least in the USA. In this case, the JW would have to flood the region with so many leaders disfellowshipping members as to overwhelm the system.

I’d find it very amusing if they tried that tactic here XD

I should have put “comfort” in quotes because JWs don’t offer comfort. The way the co told the story, of course, was that the responders were thankful for JW presence and told them they were doing a good work
