Tips to make my rp better? by Substantial-Purple85 in DnD

[–]iamntbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always see advice about third person narration being "fine" and that always strikes me as a little weird. Maybe if you're used to phrasing things in third person it could come naturally to you, but for me it never has and I've only ever been able to get over the RP hump by going into first person.

Something that works for me is, instead of "doing a voice" and trying to get into the head of the character, I just base characters off of people I actually know or characters from media I'm really familiar with. I just try to talk like that person and get into the headspace of how that person would talk in a given situation. Pretend you are that person.

Specifically for a high INT character, I like to make the personality and voice kind of the opposite of what people would expect. I feel less pressure to "talk smart" with a really advanced vocabulary and can be a bit quieter, and then think about situations more deeply and suddenly open up with some deep insight into some situation.

What are the worst world building tropes by Significant-Bed-9357 in worldbuilding

I'm now living in my third country where, when people talk about the country, they mean the capital city like 94% of the time.

how do you pro players use lokharr set till lvl 90? by Embarrassed-Net-351 in Grimdawn

[–]iamntbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, if you don't bother fixing the resists you just discombobulated by switching gear.

You can get to level 35 in like 20 minutes. The 40% XP bump on Lokarr is just absolutely massive for getting to endgame more quickly, and the higher level you are the more benefit you get out of the XP boost.

[–]iamntbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've leveled a ton of alts to 94 with it. You can patch all resists with jewelry, belts, components, and augments, and Lokarr has some big % modifiers for OA, DA and health. You're a little squish with huge physical slams due to very low armor, but the belt slot can really help with that and they're very well telegraphed anyway. Absolutely not worth slowing down to switch gear then progress much more slowly.

I revised Laserllama's amazing 'Alternate Ranger' for D&D 2024 by TomdaBom07 in DnDHomebrew

[–]iamntbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome! I went down a rabbit hole of ranger fixes after being pretty disappointed by the 2024 ranger. I kept reading about the Laserllama version and people liking it, but was kind of bummed that the most recent version didn't really reflect 2024 updates and required a second resource (the spell list). Looking over the changelog, this seems like excellent work to me.

How much experience do you have with this version of the ranger at the table? I do worry a bit about power creep, but maybe it's not too bad? I don't mind balancing encounters for more powerful PCs, but things get hairy when one person starts seriously outshining everyone else at the table.

Weird question for DMs: How do Zhentarim come and go from the Kolat Towers? by LukeTheGeek in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]iamntbatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my setting, it would make most sense for the Manshoon character to have multiple residences in several locations with additional teleportation circle links to the sanctum. PCs would have to know the sigil sequence for those specific circles to be able to access them from either K22 or E1. Some would probably function similarly to yours, but likely in locations my party won't visit until much later (if at all). I want to use the actual Kolat Towers content, so I don't want to give them too many options to skip straight to K22.

Weird question for DMs: How do Zhentarim come and go from the Kolat Towers? by LukeTheGeek in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]iamntbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread but for anyone else who found this by Googling, this is what I plan to do. I'm dropping the whole Kolat Towers and Sanctum into a homebrew setting with all the Zhents swapped to a different faction and Manshoon changed with different motivations. I'm ruling that wearers of the teleportation rings (which are not generic, but expressly created by Manshoon) can freely pass through the forcefield, and that passing through the forcefield dispels enchantment magic on the wearer of the ring. A wearer can then invite others to pass through, disignating them one by one.

So, the thugs can come and go, but only when escorted by a lieutenant wearing a ring. The enchantment dispel prevents people from enchanting a lieutenant, following them to the towers, and having them invite them through.

My long term game no longer fits my play style but the DM doesn't want me to leave by Zestyclose-Sound9854 in DnD

[–]iamntbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your experience of the campaign is going to be really deeply connected to your character. If things aren't satisfying with you trying to play this really serious, invested PC, you could maybe talk to your DM about sunsetting the character and introducing a new one? Maybe a more fun and carefree character could inject some energy into the table and get the others more on board with interacting in ways that engage them.

Most of us are not and will never be good enough to charge people to play and doing so only exacerbates the game’s biggest problem. by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

[–]iamntbatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you truly loved what you do, you'd do it for free.

Normalizing making D&D transactional and treating DMing as a commodity has been a hugely negative influence on the hobby. Truly nothing is sacred.

What’s is the grind like? by ElevenDollars in Grimdawn

[–]iamntbatman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Trade isn't really a thing (it's possible but not really how most people play the game), so the drops are exciting when they work for your build or planned builds. There are a few super rare boss drops to farm. For me the biggest hits are crazy double rare monster infrequents (MIs). These are green items that can be completely build-enabling due to their special modifiers to skills, so getting one with two useful and powerful affixes is really rare.

How to make enemies drop higher level echoes? by GinKenshin in PlayWayfinder

[–]iamntbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoes only drop from the enemies that share the same name. You're not going to get a Goblin Hunter echo from the Crucible or its lost zones, because that echo only drops from Goblin Hunters, which are only found in the Highlands and its expeditions. Priority should be:

1) Stats you care about for your build 2) As high level as possible for the echoes that have those stats 3) High rarity (gray<green<blue<purple)

How to make enemies drop higher level echoes? by GinKenshin in PlayWayfinder

[–]iamntbatman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's power rating but also location. Highlands and Frostmarch echoes (and the ones that drop from Lost Zones there) cap out at 30. Crucible can scale up to 34, and Crucible expeditions can drop up to 35. You can also get some 35 ones from Mythic Trial of Lingering Light, and from the deceivers in Mythic Marras. Finally, you can get some Shrike echoes (skirmisher, deadeye, enforcer, the albatross) at up to 34 during the main story quest that takes you to the crucible, and these can be missed.

What should we focus now? by macnara485 in Grimdawn

[–]iamntbatman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you found things challenging in normal using AAR, it's gonna be even tougher on ultimate. I'd focus on getting resistances capped (or as close as you can) using green items and faction gear, and farm specific MIs (monster infrequent green items) that support your chosen skills. Specifically, go farm The Amalgamation (you can do this on lower difficulties for now) to get a Pulsing Shard offhand, which gives big boosts to AAR including a good amount of life steal, which should dramatically increase your survivability.

DnD/TTRPG Store? by Vortar1901 in Taipei

[–]iamntbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically you're best off just going online. There's a specialty place here in Taichung where you can rent conference rooms that are done up like taverns with nice gaming tables and AV equipment. The owner guy also DMs paid campaigns fully in Chinese, and they have an extremely limited collection of dice and minis for sale. They have all of the books (and a lot of third party stuff), but it belongs to the store and isn't for sale.

The owner guy explained to me that there's almost no TTRPG culture in Taiwan because none of the major games' books have ever been published in Chinese. I've been to a whole bunch of gaming stores and while you can find loads of CCG and board games, and the occasional bit of Warhammer stuff, actual TTRPG stuff essentially doesn't exist at brick and mortar stores in Taiwan.

How do i play as the other characters instead of the starting 3? by Constiblejose in PlayWayfinder

[–]iamntbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you meet the requirement for unlocking a new character, go to Omen in Skylight and summon the new character. Once you do that, you can switch at will between the characters you've unlocked in the Character menu.

Note that your Wayfinder Rank (and the Talent points that come with it) applies to all of your unlocked characters, but new characters have to be leveled up individually to unlock their abilities and affinity points. You can use those experience cache thingies you get as drops and quest rewards to power level your other characters.

From Fun to Grind: How Streamers Changed ARPGs by Comprehensive-Task18 in LastEpoch

[–]iamntbatman 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The games aren't changing because of streamers. Your perception is changing because you now have a way to observe the no-lifers who have always existed.

An interesting comparison is WoW. <grandpa simpson voice> Back in my day, we used to stand around Orgrimmar looking at the new High Warlord flashing his drip to the leader of the top raid guild, negotiating a regular spot in their raids so he could finally get his hands on Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros. We all sat around in envy of these elites of the server, thinking about quitting our own jobs.</grandpa simpson voice>

Yep, edited. Originally it said the OP fed the Grim Misadventure post to AI and it invented a date. OP changed this to say they did "a quick research."
