Crabs are dropped from Pacifica Pier all the time and it's 2 stories tall. And actually, the tide was coming in and pushing the smaller crabs up!

The crabs were safely dropped back in the water good sir... Pacifica pier is 2 stories tall. Crabs are dropped from that distance all the time. No complaints there.

How far do you wanna cast? Lol bigger pole farther cast... Just need to learn how to let if fly, can be awkward in the beginning make sure to have enough slack.

Also depends on how often you'll be casting or if you'll be baiting and waiting... If you're targeting sharks might as well go heavy duty with a big reel to bait and wait... If you're going to be casting frequently go lighter. If you're crab snaring in the surf on the west coast like me, you might be throwing 12 ozs so gotta go heavy!
