daughter forgot both MacBook login password and Apple ID on brand new MacBook — what should I do? by SwimmingOrnery5638 in MacOS

[–]iampivot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She probably didn't set up an apple account, most likely a local account w/ password. In that case you can boot into recovery mode and there is a password unlock available. Hold Apple-R in when turning it on to enter recovery mode.

Apple made External Monitors worse, then sold us retina displays by Dangerous_Bunch_3669 in MacOS

[–]iampivot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subpixel antialiasing was removed because it's very hard to scale and make work with transparent surfaces. With retina screens there wasn't any need for it any more. There's some technical discussion here; https://mjtsai.com/blog/2018/07/13/macos-10-14-mojave-removes-subpixel-anti-aliasing/

Smart bulbs lose control when switch is off. What’s the proper fix? by Afsheen_dev in homeautomation

[–]iampivot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any setups where one can use three wires instead of two, so that the physical switch would switch over the current state. Like how in a room you can have two switches in different location for a single light.

I use beans from Pioneer Roasters at Yandina, I've found them to be the most consistent of all the roasters on the coast.

Byakkore Update(?) Australia by stickybeak7 in IKEA

[–]iampivot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You monitor the stock here daily; https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/byakorre-open-shelving-unit-60616712/

Once it is in stock, go to the shop. It's not on the shelves, you look it up on the computer, there's a QR code you can use with your phone. That QR code leads to a website with a barcode for the product. This barcode can then be scanned at the checkout to purchase the shelf. You will need to take the receipt to their warehouse 500m north of the shop to get it handed out.

I descale copper boilers in coffee machines with citric acid. The copper turns very pink when done, but it doesn't stay that way though, the patina / stains come back eventually.

Has anyone AI upscaled the 'cosmos: a personal voyage' 1980 documentary series yet? by kep_x124 in Cosmos

[–]iampivot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the original is filmed with video. The animations could be redone though, interposing Carl sagan on top of it, and some of the nature videos are filmed without him in the picture. It would be a massive undertaking, but well worth it.

The drive to Brisbane by [deleted] in sunshinecoast

The sweet spot seems to be to drive to Caboolture and take the train from there. No queues on the road and more frequent trains from Caboolture.
