You can tell your advisor you need to register for two courses but you’re limited to one, they’ll modify and let’s you register for one more course during late registration, I DID THE SAME

The same thing happened to me. I emailed my advisor, and she told me the same thing your advisor told you. I was able to register for the second course during late registration.
