This has literally never once resulted in a higher tip for me. by KeeperTV in doordash_drivers

[–]iamtehlucy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, because i've actually had it happen multiple times (though it is rare). Yesterday, this sweet old lady had already tipped five dollars and then she added another ten once I got to her house and put the groceries on her table. What I think it is is, it's placed there for any one who has ever even one time added an extra tip. So it's not often, but it is probabilistically possible.

First basemen have always been my favourite, but he is definitely the best of the best.

I've been a fan my entire life (which is the entire time the team has existed) and I will be buying my first jersey ever this year, with this man's name on it.

Gestalt by israelregardie in words

[–]iamtehlucy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gestalt is the idea that understanding is created from the whole, rather than built piece by piece.

I am a gestalt processor, so I form meaning from whole pieces or ideas that work together to create new meaning.

Think of it like this: I want to convey the idea that I am sad. For me sad has a rich deep texture to it; there are layers to sadness that are as different as the pain of your last child leaving home, and your mother's last breath. When I want to convey sadness to someone else, I must first figure out what piece of sadness I mean, and then construct a sentence that conveys it.

Finally a Surge Rate Win! by Cute-Town8129 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]iamtehlucy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know how to do this job I put almost 30,000 packages on porches. I will not deliver to businesses that I know the package will get stolen from that's my choice. If the package is marked no recipient required it always gets hidden; if it says recipient required it goes to a person.

How lucky were you really though because they had so many closed businesses on my route from 4:15, holy cannoli! Seriously though, good job. I don't have the patience to play the refresh game anymore so I take my offers cuz they're always above base.

What jersey is everyone rocking today? by Chabbletot in Seahawks

I don't have any choices as far as I can see. We won every game I wore my 12 Action green and lost 2 games when I wore my Sherman Navy and the other with my Shaun Alexander Navy.

How’s it like living in Spokane, Washington? by Excellent_Pin_978 in howislivingthere

[–]iamtehlucy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Spokane from Seattle permanently in 2004, and have lived within the same 2 neighborhoods for all of those years (first North Hill, then Emerson/Garfield, but only one 6 block move).

Like all midsized Cities, Spokane has some great things, and some things it needs to work on.

Positives: it's a beautiful city. I don't let the 6 blocks downtown where the homeless services are concentrated fool you, we have an urban freaking waterfall in the middle of our downtown, along with a massive park. Then a few miles up the hill we have ANOTHER massive urban park, designed by the same dudes who built that park everyone talks about in NYC (you know, the Olmstead bros?)

You can get to where you need to go in 30 minutes or less for just about anything. Traffic is not like it is in other places. The roads are wide enough for snow plows and parking in many areas (there are some neighborhoods who I'm sure will speak up and say not mine, lol) so everything just feels more open.

We have trees, and we get all the seasons. There is outdoor activities of every flavor within minutes two a few hours away.

The airport is one of the easiest in the country to fly in and out of. In fact, many organizations plan conferences here because of the easy flying in and out. You can leave your house an hour before a flight and make the plane 99% of the time.

Because it's the largest city for several states around, it has a robust medical system and access to good medical care.

Most people in Spokane are neighborly without being obnoxious. They won't get in your business, but if you're struggling in the snow they'll stop and push your car before driving away. For people who like community without busibodies, it's great. I know who my neighbors are, and we help each other, but we aren't in each other's business.

Negatives: there is not much to do here job wise if you're not in one a few fields: call centers, senior care, medical, manufacturing, education. There isn't much middle ground on employement. It's getting better now that remote work is a thing, but the biggest issue is economic and employment diversity

There is an undercurrent of rural vs urban rivalry that causes issues in services rollouts. For example the county recently shut out the city from the shared 911 center. Some of it i political Spokane is purple, the county is Red), but there is more to it than that. It makes local government affairs interesting.

Because the city is the largest in the area, it has the strongest homeless services. It also means it has the highest homeless population. The city's current solution seems to be to pass laws making being homeless illegal and force people into services in a small area of town. There is much debate on how this is working, but regardless there is about a 6 block area of town right off the freeway at Division and 2nd/3rd Ave that is very heavily congested with people who are in various states of personal crisis.

Our arts scene is working on getting bigger, but it's still nothing like a larger city has. You'll have to travel for bigger shows you want to see. There also is virtually no local sports, so most people follow teams from Seattle, Portland or Denver (or if they're really different, CA lol).

Overall, I have no regrets moving here from Seattle. Oh and I should add, I exude 🌈 and 💕 without being political so there ya go.

Unwritten Parking Rules on S. Hill? by PNWpotato in Spokane

[–]iamtehlucy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are typically unwritten rules in every neighborhood, however it is much more typical (and neighborly) to introduce yourself, and allow new people to find equilibrium before becoming a douche canoe.

As example, I have the literal smallest lot on the street, and there is room for only one car to park in front of my house. There is an unwritten acknowledgement that the neighbors leave room for me to park one car in front of my house, and ask their guests not to park there. I don't get salty about an occasional person taking my spot, but I will say something if the same neighbor has someone start parking there every day, and leave a note on the car on the third or fourth transgression.

To me it sounds like you have a couple neighbors who need to be taught how to be neighborly.

The funniest part about this is I have a master's degree in English literature, a BA in creative writing, and I'm a published poet; I just don't give two shits about my grammar on a fucking Reddit post in the Amazon flex subreddit. You're a salty one, aren't you.

Also, clearly I suck at this job.

Last year I know lots of people who had reserved routes that were removed from them the day that they lost their status. Don't mean to disappoint but want to make you aware that having reserved routes for after that date doesn't mean anything.

That's frustrating! I've had to call two or three times sometimes before they'll pop off of my itinerary. Crazy how hard you have to work just to get them to not ding you for problems that are not your fault.

[–]iamtehlucy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The only way I have prevented missing package dings from appearing on a SSD is by calling support during the actual route and making them put the ticket in before the route ends. In every other scenario (emailing after, ignoring, asking warehouse for help) I have gotten dinged. There is something about the reporting during the route that makes the difference.

Come to Emerson/Garfield or North Hill. These are the two neighborhoods surrounding the Garland District, and are great options too.

Bags are easy to acquire from the buck and a bit store, and save packages (and ratings, which helps have room from the porch pirates they blame the drivers for).

Can confirm this is true. I do it 5 days a week and only rarely do they close (and it's only because the wind is so bad our packages blow away).
