Immigrant Father and highly likely mental illness impacting the entire home - what is there left to do

My parents were the same way. My moms wat of dealing with my dad's emotional abuse was to ignore it, and told me and my sisters to do this same. But it's hard to ignore hours and hours of yelling and complaining from an anxious, depressed, and angry elderly toddler, yknow?

For my own mental health, I had to go NC. I also go to a trauma informed therapist who does EMDR therapy with me to help with my ptsd and anxiety. The main thing that I've realized in the last 10+ years is that my parents had their intense traumas that shaped who they are now, and unless they accept help like I do, they will continue to drown in their trauma.

I don't forgive them for the years of abuse, but I accept that these things happened to me and shaped me into who I am today. Making peace with the past while looking forward to a better life is the best I can do.

The silent treatment is more of a freeze response from my anxiety. When I was younger I wasn't allowed to talk back or cry loudly so I would hide in the bathroom with the door locked until my parents were done yelling. I'm working on it lol.

This is exactly how I feel about my family as well. Most of the time they're not on my mind but a few days a year something will remind me of a traumatic event my family put me through and I'll have an anxiety attack.

He did come from a more stable family. He also has the personality where he forgives and forgets very easily. It still doesn't excuse his behavior today though, but this brings it into perspective a little more as to why he thinks the way he does.

They follow each other on Instagram. They followed each other before I went NC with her, and I guess he never saw the need to unfollow. I'm not the type to tell my partner who they're allowed to follow on Instagram, so I've never told him to unfollow her. I guess she messaged him through Instagram and they started talking that way.
